Mark Halsey -Bolton, Lancashire

Mark Halsey enjoyed a fairly meteoric rise to the Premier League referees list having only taken up the profession in the 1988/89 season. The 41-year-old self-employed driver -or white van man -caught the refereeing bug in the Hertfordshire County League, before joining the football league as a linesman in 1993.
Halsey came into the Premiership with a reputation as a lover of injury time. He was in charge of the 1998/99 Division Two play-off final in which Manchester City scored in the 95th minute to equalise with Gillingham, before winning the match on penalties.
Referee Stats -2003/2004

Ref Halsey's figures shows that he whistles less than the average Premiership Ref and also dishes less yellows. However he is keen on penalties topping the list last season. Seven out of the eight were given to home teams so lets hope he continues on Saturday as he left off last season. Last season he sent off two players one of them being Sol Cambell for the unusual offense of steamrollering someone in the penalty area. So unlike Sol, not!! |

Ref Halsey is a good old fashioned Homer and seems not to mind what his stats show. He was the third best Homer last season and as the soon to be forgotten Jeff Winter has now retired Ref Halsey could be top Homer this season. Best of luck on Saturday Mr Halsey. |

This is the game where the linesman on the Ellerslie Road side had a shocker allowing two Spurs goals despite offsides and fouls
but redeemed himself by insisting on giving a justifiable penalty to Fulham against the initial wishes of Halsey.
