Ghost Goal Attwell to ref Blackburn game

Ref Stuart Attwell, at 25 years-of-age, is the youngest ever official to reach English football's top tier and beats the previous mark set by Mark Clattenburg, who was 29 when he made the grade in 2004.

His rise to the top is a marked contrast from the NIC Nuneaton Sunday League where he has been officiating since his teenage years and had earned his respect amongst Warwickshire officials. He moved to the Midland Combination, Southern League and Nationwide Conference before securing his status in the Football League last season, as one of nine referees who were added.

Attwell should be well versed when it comes to feigned injuries and experienced Premier League stars looking to get out of a booking as he has a degree in sports science and also works for UK Sport.

Unfortunately for Ref Attwell he arrives in the Premiership with a controversial reputation following a number of disputed decisions in Championship games including the "ghost" goal at Watford.

He has "bossed" two Fulham games, last season away at Stoke when we drew 0-0 and this season when we were beaten 2-1 by Man City in the League Cup

We must of course keep an open mind and hope that he has a good game on Wednesday.

Referee Stats - 2009/2010 Premiumship
Ref Attwell has had just 5 Premiership games so far so not a lot to go on. As he had 5 games last year making 10 in all he is still a work in progress

Although early in the season at the moment he is above average on whistles and pens. Although he may be quick to whistle he is slow to get his cards out.

Ref Attwell seems to be trying to be even-handed with his cards although he likes to whistle at visiting players more than home players. Can't be a bad thing

Bookings: Dikgaco, Kelly (Fulham)
With the Premiership and Eoropa League taking priority Roy of the Fulham fielded a 2nd XI who still ran the City millionaires close.

13-12-2008 Premier Stoke 0-0 Fulham 2y 0r
Bookings: Fuller (Stoke) Gera (Fulham)
Ref Attwell left Stoke defender unpunished after handling the ball in the area and ignored another penalty appeal when AJ was brought down by Whelan. So Roy of the Fulham was not happy with newbie ref Attwell
