Fulham are set to make a dramatic bid to bring former World Player
of the Year George Weah to Craven Cottage.
Insiders
at the club say they have already approached Weah's agent about
a possible deal and want to set up a meeting when the Liberian
returns from international duty next week.
The inspirational hitman is subject to increased transfer speculation
and the Craven Cottage outfit will face tough competition in trying
to capture one of the games biggest names.
Chelsea have already stated that they are interested in signing
him after a successful spell on loan from AC Milan and a number
of clubs in France and the United States have also shown an interest.
Fulham can offer Weah guaranteed first team football, a route
into coaching and the chance to link up with new manager Jean
Tigana, whom he knows well having played in France himself.
If Weah does arrive at Fulham it will probably be on a loan basis,
but Fulham say they are willing to pay the Liberian's £35,000
a week wages in full.

George joined Chelsea on loan from AC Milan during January in an
attempt to score some of the goals that Chelsea have been creating
(35 at Bradford with one goal!).
A proven goalscorer, George was voted World Player of the Year in
1995. A Liberian International, he is well known for his pace and
dribbling ability as well as his goalscoring record which has seen
him score over 120 goals during spells in France and Italy.
Now aged 33, George had been relegated to fourth choice striker
in the Milan side following the signings of Schevchenco and Jose
Maria. Although preferring to stay in Italy, Milan would not allow
this and so the Premiership has the chance to see one of the world's
best strikers of the past ten years.
He played in the Champions League for Milan this season so could
not play in this competition for the Blues. Made an immediate impact
when scoring on his debut, coming off the bench to head home an
97th minute winner against Spurs at Stamford Bridge.
