Nationwide Division One leaders Fulham are eager to add some Speed to their
midfield in the top flight next season.
With the Cottagers firmly on course for the Premiership, boss Jean Tigana
is targeting Newcastle United's Gary Speed as a summer purchase as he looks
to strengthen his squad.
The former French international sees the 31-year-old midfielder as the
perfect player to give his side that extra touch of top-flight knowledge they
will need.
The Welsh international, whose career began with Leeds United before a
£3.5million move to Everton in 1996, cost the Magpies £5.5million in February
1998 and has just one year to run on his current contract at St James' Park.
Fulham could have some work to do in prising Speed away from the north-east.
"Ideally I would like to finish my career at Newcastle," said Speed, who is
currently away on duty with the Welsh squad as they prepare for their World Cup
qualifying clash with Armenia.
