Fulham v Wycombe - Game Preview

last updated Tuesday 15th January 2002, 10:34 AM
Fulham Manager Jean TiganaFulham are hoping that they will be able put their 2002 F.A. Cup campaign on a more positive footing on Tuesday evening.

They replay Wycombe Wanderers, last years semi-finalists, after a poor showing that ended in a 2-2 draw. With the score resting at 2-1 with 3 minutes to go the Chairboys were close to pulling off another major upset in a competition they seem to be made for. Fortunately for Fulham their 11m man Steve Marlet was in the right place to head an equaliser 2 minutes from time.

Both teams have played once in their respective leagues since the 2-2 draw in the Cup. Wycombe drew 0-0 away at relegation candidates Wrexham in the Nationwide Division 2 while Fulham won 2-1 at home against Middlesbrough in the Premiership. Wycombe were able to create 8 attempts on goal while Fulham created 19.

The Cottagers got a big surprise at Adams Park and will not be so backward in coming forward on Tuesday night. In the Premiership Fulham have the second tightest defence after Leeds and have lost just two games at home this season. Wycombe have won just two games on their travels while conceding 22 goals a rate of nearly 2 a game. The Lillywhites have the historical advantage as there have been 8 meetings between the two clubs with Wycombe recording only 1 win and that was at Adams Park. Their last meeting at Craven Cottage, in Sept 1998, ended in a 2-0 win for Fulham.

Boss Tigana's team selection on Tuesday will be decided on the relative importance of their Premiership game away at Sunderland on Saturday and the home game in the Cup against an enthusiastic second division club.

Matchday Referee:
Graham Barber

Graham Barber has officiated at 13 Premiership games this season and has found time to also take in 3 World Cup games, 3 European Cup games, 1 UEFA Cup game, 3 Division One games, 2 League Cup games and our F.A. Cup game against Wycombe. During his travels he has also refed the Fulham v Derby League Cup game and the West Ham v Fulham Premiership game, during which he booked 5 Fulham players. In his last 6 English games he has booked 10 home players and 21 away players although he was able to over come this apparent bias when refing the Derby game when he booked 2 Fulham players for 1 Derby player.

Bazza will also remember him from the game in November against West Ham for which Barry is now very belatedly being charged with violent conduct and the last Wycombe game when Mr. Barber cautioned Bazza for dissent.
