Fulham try for Ouaddou

FULHAM look to have won the race to sign Nancy's highly-rated defender Abdeslam Ouaddou, beating off competition from a number of top clubs.

The Moroccan youngster has been in talks with the West Londoners, and his agent, and is believed to be close to signing a contract with Jean Tigana's side.

Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Bordeaux, Lens, Monaco and Ajax have all been linked with Ouaddou since he burst into the Nancy team at centre half, and earned rave reviews for his elegant performances.

There had been a break in the discussions between Fulham and their target but, after being unable to snare other top defensive targets, such as Philippe Christanval and Martin Djetou, Tigana moved back in for the African.

The Cottagers may still be able to tempt Djetou to England, even though Didier Deschamps wants him to remain at Monaco, but his team-mate Christanval seems bound for Barcelona.

Nancy are demanding in excess of £4 million for their talented prospect, a record for an outgoing move, and this has deterred other suitors.

The 22-year-old still has two years left on his contract at Marcel-Picot but he is expected to join Tigana's Premiership new boys this week.
