The Time Is Now

Fulham to make TV history

last updated Monday 23rd January 2012, 8:07 PM

Fans will be able to watch a Barclays Premier League match for free for the first time ever next month.

The match between Manchester City and Fulham on February 4 is being screened by ESPN and will be broadcast on Freeview.

That means millions of fans without subscription packages with Sky Sports and ESPN will be able to watch the match at home for nothing.

It will form part of a free weekend being offered by the channel as it attempts to lure in more viewers. They will also show live Italian and German football.

This will be the first time a top-flight match has been shown for free-to-air TV since the Premier League was launched in 1992.

ESPN chief Jeroen Oerlemans said: 'This is a great opportunity for us to introduce that to millions more and let them sample the programming ESPN has on offer.'
