Atletico Madrid sports director Paulo Futre
has revealed that Fulham are interested in taking Portugal Under-21 midfielder
Hugo Leal to Craven Cottage.
Fulham have not been able to add the star players coach Jean Tigana had
hoped for after sealing promotion to the Premiership as they have lost out
on Monaco midfielder John Arne Riise, who went to Liverpool, and Jan Koller,
who opted for Borussia Dortmund.
And they have now turned their attention to Leal, who is fed up with life
in the Spanish second division and is favouring a move away from the country.
Futre said on Wednesday: "Fulham contacted us in order to sign Hugo
Leal. I told them the price was £5.5 million. They should give an
answer very soon."
It is believed that Leal initially turned down an offer from Tigana but
is now ready to listen after a move to Paris Saint-Germain fell through
last week.
PSG coach Luis Fernandez was prepared to offer £2 million for the
skilful winger but Atletico wanted a further £2.5 million.
At Fulham, Leal would join up with compatriot Luis Boa Morte, who had a
successful season as the Cottagers sealed promotion.
