The Middlesbrough forward, Tuncay Sanli, has claimed Liverpool are interested in offering him an immediate route back to the Premier League and that he would seize the chance to join Rafael Benítez at Anfield.
Tuncay, who scored eight goals for Gareth Southgate's relegated team last season, has been linked with Fulham in recent months and is likely to be offloaded this summer as Boro come to terms with the financial realities of the Championship. Liverpool are in the market for a new striker, with Valencia's attacking midfielder David Silva the preferred option for Benítez, but the 27-year-old Turkey international has revealed he is under consideration.
Speaking in France yesterday, where he is preparing for Friday's international between the two countries, Tuncay said: "Yes, I have heard something about that [a move to Liverpool] but nothing official has arrived to me. Of course I would like to play in a big team."
Tuncay would cost around £8m and it remains to be seen if Benítez's interest develops further.
