HULL City have stepped up their chase for Bobby Zamora by tabling their first bid for the Fulham striker.

Having lost out on Marc Antoine Fortune to Celtic this week, the Tigers have switched focus towards Zamora as the man to lead their line next season.

A bid, believed to be in the region of £4m, has been lodged for the 28-year-old and City are awaiting an answer from the Cottagers.

According to manager Phil Brown, Zamora is one of four players who have been the subject of "substantial bids" from the Tigers.

The £6m move for Fraizer Campbell should be completed next week, but Brown remained tight-lipped on the identity of his other targets.

"We've been active with regards to Fulham" Brown told the Mail. "There is a firm and substantial bid on the table for Bobby Zamora.

"I'm waiting to hear from my chairman for the next step.

"There are substantial bids on the table for four players, one being Fraizer Campbell and the other being Bobby Zamora."

While Zamora would not be among them, Brown would not rule out the possibility of new signings arriving in time to join the Tigers in Italy.

A frustrating summer has so far yielded no fresh movement in the transfer market with only French defender Steven Mouyokolo new to the squad that travelled to Bormio.

But the Tigers boss insists he will remain calm to bring in the right players for the new season.

"There are a number of players out there that we want to bring to this football club" he added.

"We're pitching it high this year rather than being content with staying in the division like last season.

"Hopefully the players that come through the door will reflect that.

"There are a number of deals ongoing but am I anxious or nervous that people have not arrived yet, no I'm not.

"There's a lot of hard work going on in the background and it's constant effort going in to getting stronger individuals to improve the team."
