Fulham striker Moussa Dembele is desperate not to let his new boss down.

Martin Jol has tipped the Belgian ace for big things at Fulham this season after an injury-ravaged first year at Craven Cottage where he managed just three league goals.

The pair know each other from their time in Holland when Jol was manager of Ajax and Dembele played for AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Forward Dembele has been told he is expected to deliver - and the Belgian has promised to live up to the expectations.

He vowed: "The manager knows me already and knows how to use me. He's given me confidence.

"The coach has confidence in the whole group and has told me to 'show what I've got'.

"I had a few injuries last season and feel I have a lot more to show the fans. I want to score more and I think I can do that this year with a bit of luck."

Fulham begin the long Premier League slog at home to Aston Villa tomorrow (Saturday). Dembele reckons the Whites can better last season's eighth place - even with the extra workload of a Europa League campaign.

"We want to do better than last year, although it might be tougher because we're in the Europa League as well," he said.

"I think the Premier League is stronger than last season. There've been a few good players that have come to England and every year it seems to gets better."

Fulham had a nightmare first half of the season last time around and were flirting with the drop at Christmas. Dembele is aiming to fly out of the blocks against Alex McLeish's men at Craven Cottage.

He added: "It's always easier if you have a better start, and that's what we're aiming to do."
