DAVID GINOLA is so desperate to leave Aston
Villa that his representatives have offered him to Premiership new boys
Fulham - for a staggering pounds 20,000 a week LESS than he is earning
now.
The French winger has been criticised by Villa manager John Gregory
for being overweight - even though he insists he is fit.
Ginola, 34, ended last season storming off the pitch at St James' Park
when he was substituted before half-time in Villa's final-day 2-1 defeat
against Newcastle.
It seemed he had played his last game for the club and, with the new season
just over a month away, Ginola is desperate to find a team which will
guarantee him regular first-team football.
He has been unable to establish himself in the Villa side despite being
one of the most popular players with the fans.
Since joining Villa last season from Spurs, where he was sold after not
fitting in with manager George Graham's plans despite being a crowd favourite,
Ginola has not been able to settle in Birmingham.
He has not moved his family up there and a source close to him said: "David
is unhappy that he cannot play first-team football regularly - that is
all he wants."
Ginola is believed to earn about pounds 45,000 a week but he is prepared
to take a huge drop to put himself back in the limelight.
Ginola was particularly hurt when he was taken off at St James' Park,
having been such a favourite there during his Newcastle days.
His representatives are looking to sort out a deal soon for the winger
who has a knack of becoming an instant crowd favourite with his brilliant
skills - if not always the most popular man with a manager. He has been
criticised for diving too much and lack of defending.
Fulham blasted their way into the Premiership by winning the First Division
title last season and Ginola would feel at home with French manager Jean
Tigana (below).
But they are undecided about whether to move for the former French international,
who showed during his time at Spurs that he can turn a match in an instant
with his goal-scoring ability.
