U.S. Soccer has confirmed that Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey has been diagnosed with a shoulder sprain and will not be available for the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Honduras on Oct. 10 in San Pedro Sula.

The energetic Dempsey, who sits in second place amongst U.S. goalscorers in 2010 qualifying with five goals, will be evaluated throughout the week to determine his availability for the USA's final qualifier against Costa Rica on Oct. 14 in Washington, D.C.

Dempsey was substituted in the 84th minute of Fulham's 2-2 draw at West Ham on Sunday, and underwent an MRI evaluation on Monday.

West Ham's Luis Jimenez upended Dempsey with a hard foul in the match.
