Fulham
will look to strengthen their squad after a shattering injury to Rufus Brevett has forced
them to realise cover in some areas of the team is painfully thin.
Even
though the current team are flying on cloud nine after seven straight wins there
is no natural left-back with superstar quality to take the place of the stricken
defender who will be out for up to six weeks.
Paul
Trollope, Alan Neilson and new signing Kieran McAnespie from St Johnstone have, in the
absence of Terry Phelan, been handed golden opportunities
to save Fulham opening the cheque book for the injured Brevett.
After
a shuddering challenge from Nottingham Forest midfielder Jack Lester on Saturday,
Brevett discovered on Tuesday he had sustained his second bad injury in the
same year.
Following
six months out after his hamstring was ripped from the bone in January, the
tackle from Lester appears to have torn the ligaments in his shoulder and he
will be missing for up to another six weeks.
Managing
director Michael Fiddy admitted more bodies were needed than just the 15 different
players who have started for Fulham in their league matches so far.
He
said: “The squad needs strengthening but there just hasn't been the time for
Jean Tigana to get out and look.
“There
is a golden opportunity for Paul and Kieran to come into a team that is playing
exceptionally well at the moment.”
Tigana's
initial inquiries for Paul Konchesky at Charlton have discovered he would cost
Fulham £2 million and that Addicks boss Alan Curbishley has slapped a “not for
sale” sign on his England youth defender.
