The fallout from the Serie A match-fixing scandal could reach as far as Fulham in SouthWest London. With Fiorentinas Czech internationa defender Tomas Ujfalusi, 28, being linked to The Cottagers.
Fiorentina is one of the top Italian clubs being punished by the Italian football authorities for involvement in the match-fixing scandal. On July 14, 2006 Fiorentina were relegated to Serie B and given a 12 point penalty. The team was also banned from participating in the UEFA Champions League 2006-07.
It is reported that Fulham had a substantial bid rejected by The Viola prior to the club's enforced relegation. With the reality of at least one season in the second division and the scandal's shadow both parties are likely to be in further contact.
Commanding in the air and skilful with the ball, Ujfalusi is one of the most talented defenders in Europe. His impressive form in Euro 2004 attracted clubs from all over Europe including Arsenal who were keen to prise him away from Hamburg. He eventually quit Germany for Fiorentina in Italys Serie A, where he has continued to earn rave reviews. Ujfalusi was the one Czech player to start all 14 games in qualifying and he collected just one yellow card.
