Fulham are reportedly in talks with Norwich goalkeeper Robert Green as they look for a successor to Manchester United-bound Edwin van der Sar.
The talented Dutchman is poised to ink a two-year deal at Old Trafford, leaving Fulham boss Chris Coleman on the look-out for an immediate replacement.
Green, who relegated Norwich were hoping to keep hold of, will be keen to resume his career in The Premiership as he looks to cement a place in Sven Goran Eriksson's England squad next season.
It would appear his wish could be granted at Craven Cottage - with Fulham seemingly now in pole position to land his signature - for a purported £3 million fee.
Green's agent, Andy Evans, has already confirmed that several Premiership clubs are trailing his client's services.
''There's strong interest from Premiership clubs, which is to be expected,'' said Evans.
''And, if it's in the best interests of all parties involved, then it's a possibility Robert may be leaving this summer.''
Another to rise through the Norwich ranks, Green showed every sign of emulating Andy Marshall's progress,
and was another City keeper to enjoy an assured debut.
On this occasion, it was against East Anglian arch rivals Ipswich Town , when a fine contribution -
capped by a point-saving stop in the final minute - marked him out as one for the future.
England Youth honours provided further evidence of his promise, and he soon moved into the breach left
by Marshall's shock decision to switch to Ipswich.
Green emerged as Norwich's number one in the 2001/02 season, and improved as each season passed.
The stopper was strongly linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer of 2003, but no move materialised.
The 2003/04 season saw him really come of age as Norwich stormed to the First Division title, conceding
just 39 goals and making his 150th appearance in the process.
His form was also noticed by England coach Sven Goran Eriksson, leading to a call-up for the friendly
against Sweden in March 2004. He travelled to Gothenberg as the fourth choice stopper, but Eriksson was
keen to have a look at a player who had been receiving rave reviews in the Nationwide League.
The local lad has a healthy attitude to the game (always a smile and a wave for the fans) who has excelled
at lower levels and has every chance (and opportunity) to get to the very top.
