Fulham are hoping to persuade Blackburn Rovers to part with their record
buy Andy Cole, offering them the chance to recoup their £6m-plus investment.
Jean Tigana's side lost out to Rovers when Cole chose Ewood Park on leaving
Manchester United at the start of the year. Tigana wants Cole to give his
passing side a cutting edge next season and has been given boardroom backing
for a summer bid for the striker.
Cole has scored seven goals for Blackburn since he joined them, including
the winner in the Worthington Cup final, but there have been constant rumours
of unrest. Rovers' manager, Graeme Souness, has denied rifts behind the
scenes but Cole is a person who does not mix easily with team-mates.
The Blackburn manager has made every effort to cheer him up, but Cole has
found it difficult to adjust. The stamping incident on Bolton's Mike Whitlow,
costing him a three-game ban, showed the kind of frustration Cole is going
through.
