Fulham were in talks last night with Pawel Brozek as they close in on a £3.5 million move for the Wisla Krakow star according to The Times.

Manager Roy Hodgson believes the striker will give them valuable continental experience as the Cottagers build for their Europa League campaign.

Brozek could have made the move to England in 2004 as he went on trial with West Ham United, but a change of manager caused him to return from a loan deal with Katowice and continue his career with Wisla.

The 26-year-old certainly has the pedigree. He has been the top scorer in the Polish League for the last two seasons and was named as the country's Footballer of the Year last term. Having won six league titles with Wisla Krakow, as well as two Polish Cups, Brozek clearly feels now is the time to further his career.

"If I were to leave, it would be now. The English Premier League is the best league in the world and I would love to play in it." Brozek told Fakt.

A Wisla spokesperson has also commented on the transfer, telling the press that Fulham have opened negotiations with the player and his agent after watching the striker at the Wisla training camp in Austria.
