FULHAM are on the trail of Stephen Hunt, but they are set to face competition from Birmingham City for the signature of the Irish winger.
The Irish Independent understands that Cottagers boss Roy Hodgson sent a representative to Sofia last Saturday to watch Hunt in his country's 1-1 draw with Bulgaria.
They are now mulling over making an offer, with newly promoted Birmingham also expected to enter the race when bidding begins.
The Republic of Ireland international has suggested a move away from Reading could be good for both parties.
"My own situation is that I am happy at Reading, but in terms of my future, I've been loyal to Reading, maybe a fresh start would be good for me and the club." he said.
Hunt has been linked most strongly with Everton this summer, but declined to comment on where he could go.
"I think me and the club agree it is time for a fresh start. I don't know about that (Everton). I can't talk about other clubs," he explained.
"If I'm at Reading I'll be 100pc committed to getting the club back into the Premier League, because I've had four years of really good times," he states.
"But the Premier League is the place to be. In a World Cup year it would be vital for me. Playing regularly would be the main thing.
Playing at a higher level, you would be playing against better players. But if you go to a higher club and you're not playing, then you've got to be careful where you end up."
