Fulham and Manchester United have denied they are on the brink of an agreement for the transfer of striker Louis Saha to Old Trafford.

It had been reported that the 25-year-old was heading to the north-west for a medical on Wednesday morning to complete his dream move.

However, while United boss Sir Alex Ferguson remains interested in bringing Saha to Old Trafford, no deal is imminent, even though the player has been quoted as saying that the transfer would be a dream come true.

Fulham spokesman Chester Stern said: "There has been no fresh bid from Manchester United. There is no truth in the story at all."

United insiders believe Fulham are trying to establish Saha's market value, even though Cottagers boss Chris Coleman and owner Mohamed al Fayed have declared their intention to keep hold of the man previous manager Jean Tigana signed for £2.1million from Metz in 2000.

It has been pointed out that even if a deal was rushed through this week, Saha would not be considered for Saturday's Premiership encounter with Wolves and he is also ineligible for the FA Cup tie at Northampton the following Sunday.

Under those circumstances, United would be prepared to hold off making a revised offer in an effort to force Fulham to accept less than their asking price.
