Fulham striker Bobby Zamora has said he is "desperate" to be fit in time for Fulham's Europa League final against Atletico Madrid on May 12th.

The Cottagers' front man limped off during last night's sensational semi-final win over Hamburg after struggling with an Achilles injury.

Commenting on the final in less than two weeks time, Zamora said: "I'm desperate to be on the pitch in the final and the next week or two is really important for me.

"I can't see me making the game on Sunday against West Ham but it's a case of making sure I'm ready for the final."

The 29-year-old has played a vital role in Fulham's Europa League campaign this season. He has scored a total of eight goals in Europe including crucial strikes against Juventus and Wolfsburg as well as netting the winner against holders Shakhtar Donetsk.

Many fans and experts believe that Zamora's form should be rewarded with an international call up but the striker's full attention at the minute is on Fulham and looking ahead to the final.

Zamora believes Fulham's spirit has been crucial in them reaching the final. He said: "We've been underdogs in every game in the Europa League but we just give it our all in every game, as we have done all season

"There's no point coming into this [Europa League] competition and playing all these games if you're not going to give it your all.

"I think a lot of people might look at our team and think we're not the greatest on paper but we're a very hard working side who are very difficult to beat - you can see that in our performances."

Fulham boss Roy Hodgson is being tipped for this season's manager of the year award and Zamora admits he deserves all the praise he gets.

"He's [Hodgson] brilliant. The organisation and training - you can see we're well drilled from our performances. Everybody knows where they should be," added Zamora.
