Luis Boa Morte saved Fulham's blushes with a late penalty to secure a 1-1 draw with Wimbledon.
Only minutes remained when the Portuguese striker was shoved in the back by Dons defender Darren Holloway to give Fulham a point which they had deserved.
Boa Morte stepped up and struck his spot-kick to the left of keeper Kelvin Davis to once again set the Fulham championship party alight.
Only minutes earlier it looked as if Kevin Cooper had ruined a perfect promotion party. After he had been felled in the box by keeper Maik Taylor, Jason Euell hammered in the 12-yard kick to give what looked to be an unlikely win for a Dons side on the fringes of the play-offs.
But justice was done when Boa Morte levelled and Fulham were able to accept their championship medals in the pouring rain, but at least with a smile on their faces.
Amid 1000 balloons, Fulham earlier took only two minutes to threaten the Wimbledon goal. A Louis Saha ball down the channel found Boa Morte, who although off balance, still managed to get in a left-foot shot which Davis saved at the second attempt.
A minute later the Portuguese hitman found himself in the clear, rounded Davis and had his acute angled shot was headed off the line by Rob Gier.
The Dons defender then spurned a glorious chance to put his team ahead.
Alan Kimble swung over a right-sided corner and Gier, in yards of space at the back post, could only place his header wide from six yards.
After 13 minutes a ball played over the top of Alain Goma left the £4million defender struggling to keep up with Euell.
The striker's left-foot shot from just inside the box saw Taylor diving full-length to save.
In a game already not short of chances, Boa Morte was again in too quick for the Wimbledon defence two minutes later.
As he rounded Davis for the second time he once again found yellow shirts all around him, and Boa Morte kept his feet but lost the chance to put his team ahead.
Fulham now turned the screw, and a Bjarne Goldbaek corner found Saha powering in a downward header which Davis did well to turn around for a corner.
After 34 minutes it was his namesake in a white shirt, Sean Davis, who got his effort on target, only for the Dons keeper to tip over the bar.
By now Wimbledon's earlier impetus had all but disappeared and once again keeper Davis to be alert to smother a stabbed shot by John Collins, which the Fulham midfielder mishit as he met a Goldbaek cross after 42 minutes.
Ten minutes into the second half a glorious one-two between Saha and Lee Clark saw the Geordie midfielder unleash a diagonal left-foot shot from inside the box which brought another fine save from Davis.
Euell put Wimbledon ahead and Terry Burton immediately swapped Michael Hughes for David Nielsen, while Fulham carried on with their relentless attacks.
A stinging drive from Clark saw a diving save from Davis, before Boa Morte was on hand to first be fouled in the box and then pick himself up and level to set the promotion celebrations going
