Fulham assistant manager Christian Damiano revealed his frustration at his side's inabilty to score - and proceeded to pin the blame on the pitch rather than the players.
He said: "Our problem is that we need to score more goals.
"I know it's an excuse, but the pitch was difficult. We had one good chance for Louis in the first half, but the ball jumped up.
"Today was a difficult game for us and we didn't play very well. Charlton played well and that was no surprise because they're a good, organised team with fantastic spirit."
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley watched his side fail to score for the third consecutive game - and immediately hailed the efforts of his two strikers, Jason Euell and Kevin Lisbie.
The former could only hit the outside of the post when one-on-one wth Edwin van der Sar in the game's clearest opening, while the latter seemed to be caught in two minds whenever he got into a threatening position.
Reflecting on Euell's chance, Curbishley said: "Jason did what he wanted to do, chipping it over van der Sar.
"I felt Jason might have gone round him, but he made the keeper go down, chipped him and it hit the post. Kevin also had a decent chance, but it wasn't to be.
"The two boys up front haven't scored in the last three games, but they have been causing all sorts of problems. They've been doing all the approach work and keeping the pressure on defences.
"Perhaps on another day, we might have taken the points. We put in a decent performance after the disappointment of the Blackburn game."
