Pierre Wome |
Pierre Wome has been signed by Werder Bremen on a free transfer from Inter Milan it has been announced.
The Cameroon international defender has had a troubled time at Inter, making only 12 league appearances for the Nerazzurri this season since joining from Bayern Munich last summer.
Wome is an adaptable player, happy at left back and also an effective wing back with excellent crossing skills. He can also play in a defensive mid-field role, as he did during his time at Fulham.
During talks with Werders general director Klaus Allofs it is believed the 27-year-old left back has signed until summer 2008.
Wome has made 67 appearances for his national side including the 1998 and 2002 World Cup tournaments. But he is known for having itchy feet and is a very well travelled player. Previous clubs include English side Fulham, Spanish side Espanyol and Italian clubs Brescia, Bologna, Roma, Lucchese and Vicenza.
It was Womes missed penalty against Egypt in October 2005 that cost Camerron a place in this years World Cup Finals. After the incident Wome admitted to being in fear for his life and had to have Police protection for his family due to threats from Cameroons fans.
