Fulham defender Steve Finnan, linked to a summer move to Liverpool, has been warned by Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher that he would have a fight on his hands to push him out of the side.
Reds boss Gerard Houllier has been strongly linked with a move for Fulham right back Steve Finnan for some time, meaning stiff competition for Carragher.
Carragher believes that the arrival of the Republic of Ireland international would be a real threat to him, but has seen off bigger threats in the past.
"I'm not kidding myself - if Steve Finnan came I don't think it would be to sit on the bench here,".
"No-one has denied the rumours so there must be something in them, but what can you do?
"I'd rather he'd not come, obviously. But if I were to get injured now, no disrespect to the other players here, but I don't know who would come in.
"There have been a few defenders who have come and left because I have been in their position - and bigger names than Steve Finnan.
"Liverpool are a big club and if they feel this position needs improving then they'll do it. It's up to them."
The Cottagers travel to Anfield on Saturday and Carragher will be looking to put in a good performance against his potential competition.
