Ex-Fulham Manager Micky Adams

Leicester City have parted company with manager Micky Adams.

The Foxes have endured a torrid start to the season and have won just four times.

Leicester were favourites for The Championship with many bookmakers before the campaign began, but their predicted promotion push has thus far failed to materialise.

Adams took charge at The Walkers Stadium in 2002 and performed miracles when he gained promotion in 2003, despite the club going through the turmoil of administration.

As predicted Leicester were relegated last season, but they put up a brave battle throughout the campaign - which is why many thought they would be the team to beat in The Championship.

However, Adams has now left Leicester - the sixth club in his managerial career after spells in charge at Brighton, Swansea, Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Fulham.

Chief executive Tim Davies said: "This is a very sad day for Leicester City Football Club.

"Everyone connected with the club wanted Micky to stay and we did our utmost to try to persuade him to change his mind.

"However, we have now accepted that Micky's decision is final. We would like to place on record our sincere appreciation for the tremendous commitment, passion and success Micky has brought to the club.

"He has been manager during arguably the most difficult period in the club's modern history and his achievement in steering the club to promotion in the season in which the club went into administration is a truly remarkable feat."

The Foxes are now looking for a new manager, with director of football Dave Bassett placed in temporary control.
