Everton are ready to agree a compromise deal to allow Andy Johnson to finally join Fulham.
The two clubs are at loggersheads over the proposed £13 million fee after a medical showed the striker still had signs of a knee injury picked up earlier in his career.
Everton had threatened to pull the plug on the move and call Johnson back to Goodison Park, but now they are ready to return to the negotiating table. That will mean Fulham paying up the full amount eventually, but over a longer period and based on appearances.
If Fulham agree, then Johnson's move could go through today, allowing Everton manager David Moyes to make his much anticipated move in the transfer market.
Moyes is desperate to bring in three or four new faces, but has been forced to wait for funds to finance his swoops.
If he can complete the sale of Johnson, then he will swiftly move to wrap up a deal for Sporting Lisbon's
Portugal midfielder Joao Moutinho, who will cost around £14m.
In the meantime, Johnson has reported back for training at Everton, turning up at the club's Merseyside complex to do a stint on his own while his Goodison team-mates prepared to fly home from a pre-season tour in America.
Everton have also dismissed suggestions that they are in talks over an impending takeover of the club..
