Lewis has been restricted to a bit-part player at
Craven Cottage, even though his goal against Derby in the Worthington Cup won
him national attention.
Since that match he has been back in the reserves, and with ten World Cup fixtures
coming up for the USA from February onwards he admits it won't be easy to fight
his way into the Fulham side.
"It’s difficult because of the travel especially," he said. "Our region, the CONCACAF
region, involves a lot of games in the Southern hemisphere and the dates don’t
always line up with European dates - so sometimes I feel as though I’m missing
more time with Fulham than I should be. I get right on the fringe of the Fulham
team but then get knocked back a little bit when I go away, so that's not easy.
"It will be the same in future months because we've through to the final World
Cup qualifiers. It's a group of six and we play everyone home and away with the
top three going through."
