Bolton are not expected to offer versatile former French international Martin Djetou an extended contract when his current deal expires in January.
The former Fulham man signed for the Trotters on a short-term contract but has made just one Premiership start during his time at the Reebok Stadium.
Allardyce is hoping to add to the squad and with Djetou not featuring as much as he would have liked the wily Bolton boss may feel the money can be better spent elsewhere, Allardyce said: "I will have to make a decision over the next few days. It needs to be the right decision for both club and player."
"He hasn't figured as much as we would have liked and would of course feel frustrated by that."
