Fulham Manager Chris Coleman has caused Fifa to change it's limit on substitutions following the abandonment of last Saturday's friendly between Fulham and Watford.
Referee Peter Walton abandoned the game at half-time because both sides had exceeded the limit of six substitutions - imposed by Fifa in an attempt to improve the quality of international exhibition games.
However, after two days of arduous negotiations, the Football Association have convinced Fifa president Sepp Blatter that unlimited substitutions are crucial to clubs planning for the new season and that although the methods of Sven Goran Eriksson could perhaps be considered, club fixtures should not be affected.
The FA stated:
"The Football Association are delighted to announce that Fifa has agreed to the FA's proposal that restrictions on substitutes from friendly matches should apply to international friendly matches only," said a statement on the FA's officially website.
"This follows a series of discussions between the FA and Fifa in which the concerns of English football were brought to Fifa's attention.
"The FA believed it was in the interests of all parties that clubs be able to use as many substitutes as necessary in pre-season preparation matches.
"As a result, from this point forward, clubs will once again be permitted to make an unlimited number of substitutions in friendlies."
