Bolton join Fulham and Blackburn in the Premiership
after Gareth Farrelly, Michael Ricketts and Ricardo Gardner ended three
years of play-off heartbreak with the goals that took the Trotters back
to the Premiership.
After defeat in their Wembley play-off final against Watford in 1999, they
lost in a controversial semi-final against Ipswich last year.
But three years after being relegated from the top flight under Colin Todd,
former player Sam Allardyce has guided them back.
David Moyes’ Preston, last season’s second division champions, battled courageously
throughout but could not find the firepower to force their way back into
the game.
