BBC visit Fulham Ladies

On a day when the entire Women's Premier League programme was wiped out due to waterlogged pitches around the country, BBC Sport Online's women's football correspondent Tony Leighton checks out the rise and rise of the English game's first professional team.

England striker Rachel Yankey hit a hat-trick as Fulham handed Ipswich a 10-0 Women's FA Cup third round hammering to send out a warning to the Premier League's National Division sides.

The country's top 10 clubs enter the competition in the next round - and when the draw is made on Thursday there will be as much trepidation about meeting the South East Combination side as there will be at facing the likes of Arsenal, Doncaster Belles and holders Charlton.

While the whole of Sunday's Premier League programme was washed out, the country's first professional women's team carried on their relentless pursuit of success in League and Cups with their double-figures away victory over Southern Division promotion hopefuls Ipswich.

Yankey, one of England's scorers in last week's Euro 2001 play-off victory over the Ukraine, took her season's goal tally to 38 while Norwegian international midfielder Margunn Haugen also weighed in with a couple of goals.

Fulham have set themselves an ambitious target of winning not only their League but also the FA Cup and London County Cup - and it's a target which Ipswich manager Derek Tarbard believes they are capable of achieving.

Tarbard said: "They are a fantastic side. They play super football and they are the fittest team I've ever seen in women's football. I feel that they are on a par with the best sides in the National Division and I really believe they can go on to win the FA Cup."

The Cottagers showed their quality and superb fitness levels in a 5-1 victory over Charlton in the London County Cup, in which they should battle out the final with Arsenal if they beat Wimbledon in next month's semi.

They are running away with the South East Combination, having won all 11 of their games to date and scoring an amazing 110 goals in the process. Now the FA Cup is within their sights - and they are determined to celebrate their first season as a professional club with a triple triumph.

Manager Frank McMorrow said: "Our main aim is to win the FA Cup, but we obviously want to win the League to get promoted and the County Cup is also important because we have to beat some top teams to win that one.

"Our performance at Charlton was very pleasing - we expected it to be a tough game but nobody at our club was surprised we beat them. They are two Leagues above us, but our all-round ability and superb fitness took us through.

"It would be tremendous to reach the County Cup final and play Arsenal, because they are the National Division leaders and that would be a really tough test for us.

"I suppose we could meet them at some stage in the FA Cup as well, but it wouldn't matter if it was the next round or the final - you have to beat the best to be the best, and that's our aim."
