Fulham boss Jean Tigana said: "It was possible to come back after the first half but I need a killer in the box.

"I think my players need confidence and to get that you need to work. We are missing too many chances."

He added: "I don't like to speak to the players after the game. Tomorrow it's possible to speak and work with all the players on what's best for the future."

Steve Staunton Aston Villa's Republic of Ireland international defender insisted Aston Villa will not get carried away with their league position after the 2-0 defeat of Fulham at Villa Park.

Goals from Darius Vassell and fit-again midfielder Ian Taylor moved John Gregory's men up to fourth in the FA Barclaycard Premiership. But Staunton said: "All the hard work has to come now. We'll keep plugging away and if we're in the same position come March or April we'll start thinking about it then." He added: "We've been battling hard.

"We're keeping a few clean sheets and making one or two chances at the other end. "Fulham are a good footballing side but we kept them at bay - and thankfully we got the goals.

Taylor, back in the side after recovering from a long-term knee injury, told Sky Sports: "I was surprised to be on the bench but Hassan Kachloul had to go off and I flew in there.

"I feel a bit heavy-legged now but it's nice to get the goal and the three points." The 33-year-old added: "I'm getting on a bit now but it was nice to get the chance - it was a great ball from Juan Pablo Angel."
