50% of pitch dug up!

last updated Saturday 10th February 2001, 8:09 AM
Yesterday Fulham Football Club began extensive works to replace almost 50% of the pitch following the recent deterioration of the playing surface.

Fulham's curent pitch is over 15 years old and has suffered beyond repair in recent weeks.

The areas which will be replaced form a large cross running down the centre of the pitch from the Hammersmith End to the Putney end, and across the midfield area from the Riverside Stand to the Stevenage Road Stand.

The work involves removing over 400 tones of damaged material, cultivating the soil below the affected areas, and re-turfing to a depth of 40mm using high quality and very resistant rye grass.

This work has been undertaken in order to restore the playing surface to a satisfactory standard, enabling the team to continue playing in the style that Jean Tigana has developed this season.
