Referee Michael Salisbury from Penwortham, South Ribble, Lancashire, started refereeing in the local leagues in Preston in 2001 after being inspired by his dad Graham, who retired after 588 Football League games.
The 41-year-old former PE teacher began refereeing in the Football League during the 2016-17 season, having only been appointed to the Vanarama National League a mere 12 months earlier.
He was appointed to the Select group 2 of full time referees in summer 20/21 after leaving his role at Parklands High School in Chorley and one year later joined the Select Group 1 of full time Premiership referees.
The most recent time Mr Salisbury refed a Fulham game was in January 2025 when we beat Leicester City 2-0 away at King Power Stadium. Emile Smith Rowe and Adama Traore were Fulham's goal scorers. Mr Salisbury yellow carded three Leicester players and one fulham player, Sasa Lukic for a foul.
Previously that season, in November 2024, Mr Salisbury refed Fulham when we beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at Selhurst Park. He booked two players including Alex Iwobi and sent off a Palace player in the 76th minute for a bad tackle.
A year earlier in November 2023 Mr Salisbury refed Fulham when we beat Wolves 3-2 at The Cottage. He booked two players from each squad, including Tim Ream for a foul and Carlos Vinicius for arguing. Willian and Alex Iwobi were the Fulham goal scorers.
After the game Mr Salisbury was in a bit of bother with the Premier League's Independent Key Match Incidents Panel finding that Mr Salisbury had made two errors during the match in awarding the first penalty to Fulham and not sending VinÃcius off.
A month earlier, October 2023, Mr Salisbury was in charge when we drew 1-1 away at Brighton. Mr Salisbury booked three players, all from Fulham, Antonee Robinson, Rodrigo Muniz and Harry Wilson, all for fouls. Joao Palhinha was Fulham's scorer.
Mr Salisbury had refed Fulham a month earlier in September 2023 when we beat Luton Town 1-0 at The Cottage. He booked two players from each team, Fulham's two were Timothy Castagne and Issa Diop, both for fouls. Carlos Vinicius was our goal scorer.
Prior to the Luton game Mr Salisbury refed Fulham in January 2023 when we drew 1-1 at home to Sunderland in the FA Cup 4th round. Mr Salisbury booked two players from each team, the Fulham men were Harry Wilson and Layvin Kurzawa, both for fouls. Tom Cairney scored Fulham's goal.
Mr Salisbury first visit to Fulham was in October 2021 when we
beat West Brom 3-0 at The Cottage in the Championship. Mr Salisbury yellow carded three West Brom players and also sent off one player from each team, the Fulham player was Tosin Adarabioyo.
Mr Salisbury last refed a Sunderland game in August 2025 when they lost 2-0 away at Burnley. He booked one player which was a Sunderland player, Simon Adingra.
Last season, 24/25, he refed 20 games and dished out 78 yellows and 2 red, so an average of 3.9 yellows per game.
His busiest game in recent times was West Ham vrs Brighton where he dished out 8 yellows, five of them to the away team.
