Mark Clattenburg (Tyne & Wear Co. Durham)
At the age of 33 he is by far the youngest referee in the Select Group of Officials.
When he was 16 he was sent on a refereeing course as part of the Duke of Edinburgh
awards and was immediately bitten by the refereeing bug.

Mark then started his refereeing career in 1990 and is the product
of the fast tracking system that allows referees of a young age and
ability to be rushed through the various levels of refereeing to enable them to
reach the top of their profession a lot more quickly.

By 1999 he was promoted to the National List of Assistant
Referees and was refereeing in the Conference. He only spent a year on that list
before he was promoted once more to the National List of Referees meaning he was
just one step away from the Premiership. So at the age of 25 years old he became
the youngest referee to officiate in the Football League since 1956 when the legendary
Jack Taylor blew his whistle. Taylor went on to referee the 1974 World Cup Final
so Mark still has a lot to go for.

Mr Clattenburg has so far reffed seven Fulham Premiership games which resulted in
2 wins 2 draw and 3 defeats with 18 yellows for Fulham players and 16 for opposition
players.
Referee Stats - 2007/2008
|
Ref Clattenburg blows his whistle slightly more than his fellow Refs. And when he does whistle he is fractionally more likely to give
a yellow card making him the third busiest yellow carder in the Premiership.
After three red cards in his first Premiership season he appears to casting caution
to the winds this season with 6 reds in 15 games making him the second busiest in the Premiership.

Ref Clattenburg has no favourites when he whistles but when he gets his cards
out he is decidedly different to the norm.
He is clearly favouring visiting squads with more of his cards going to home squad
more than any other ref in fact.
Hopefully he doesn't decide to change for the Bolton game.

03-04-2004 Premiership Fulham 3-1 Portsmouth 6y 0r
Bookings: Boa Morte, Goma, Rosenior (Fulham) O'Neil, Skopelitis, Stefanovic (Portsmouth)
Dejan Stefanovic was lucky not to be sent of in the fourth minute when he brought
down Boa Morte as he prepared to charge through on goal, but referee Mark Clattenburg
opted for leniency and showed only a yellow card. This was the game were Steed Malbranque
failed to convert a penalty when Fulham were 1-0 down and suffering near the drop
zone. Bet Steedie was happy with the final score :-)
