Fulham-Liverpool fixtures have proven to be a guaranteed source of entertainment in recent years.

The previous four meetings have yielded 17 goals, with a win for either side and two draws.

And with the Reds heading into our match at Anfield on the back of consecutive defeats in the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League, Fulham manager Marco Silva was asked if Saturday represents ‘a real opportunity’ for his side.

“No, it's always a real opportunity,” he replied. “Because, as you mentioned, the last results against them, the last performances, last games, they have been very, very good – good performance, some good results from us, very, very competitive always, home and away, and this is what we want to be again.

“Of course, all the clubs, they have ups and downs. In a big club, any defeat probably hurts more.

“A defeat is always a defeat, I know, and I had this conversation with our players, for example, after the two defeats that we had in a row [against West Ham and Southampton] in a short period of time before the Nottingham Forest game.

“And with other clubs and other players and other managers, it’s the same thing as well. It's part of a season. And, of course, it’s always the way you are going to react for the bad moments that is going to be decisive.

“We come from a good result [against Burnley], we come from a result where we were losing and we won the game in a good way at home. We went for the international break with three points, massive three points in my opinion, for us.

“And let's hope we can start in the same way against a very, very good side – with the bad run, it’s true. They lost three games in a row in different competitions, and if it’s going to have an impact or not in the game, we don't know.

“We prepare ourselves for the best Liverpool possible, and we want to be competitive like we did show last season, against them this season already [too], and let's hope we can repeat the same type of performance.”
