Fulham boss Álvaro Arbeloa was naturally delighted to oversee his first Premier League victory, but didn’t think there was much difference between the Hull City match, and others which did not prove so prosperous.
Alex Iwobi’s first half strike proved the difference at Craven Cottage, but another day would see Fulham win by a much more comprehensive margin.
“I think it's another day at the office, because I have the same feeling as other games, where we control the game, where we have the better chances,” Arbeloa said in his post-match press conference.
“Today, I think we were the better team for 90 minutes. We did everything to beat a team, [that is] a very difficult team to beat. I think they are always solid, they lost just one game. We were watching them, how difficult they are, very tough team, very physical, very direct, very dangerous in counter-attack, in transition, in set-pieces.
“So, I'm so proud of my players because they played with great personality, great character. We scored one goal, and we continued attacking in the second half.
“We had so many chances, and I think we need to try to get the chances because it's so important, but we played very well last 15 minutes where Hull tried to push, tried to be even more direct.
“And I'm so happy for our supporters – they deserve this victory, this win. And for my players.”
There were big celebrations with his players when the full-time whistle went, and Arbeloa was quick to highlight the importance of the group as a whole.
When asked how much moments like that mean, he replied: “Yes, very important. Obviously, it's not easy for players when you are working hard, when you are doing what your coach is asking you, and you don't win games.
“It's not easy to keep doing the same things, keep working, keep trying to improve. And my players believe in our ideas, and they play in the way that we are playing, even when we were losing games.
“For me, it was so important to see their commitment, especially for the players that are not playing. They are so important for us. I can name all of them. Players that even are not on the bench this weekend, like Reedy, Cuenca, today Emile, but Kevin, Rodrigo, Joa, Mami, TC, César.
“All the players that they are not playing as much as they would like, they are working so hard and they are so important for the group. And we need to keep working because it's going to be a long season.
“Next week we have three games – after Coventry we have Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. Tough games, and we need to prepare.”
