Former Fulham favourite Steed Malbranque was dropped by Sunderland boss Steve Bruce because of a breach of club rules.

The French midfielder was left out of the match day squad for the 0-0 draw with Fulham on 28th February.

It is reported the 30-year-old broke a curfew whilst in London before their defeat to Arsenal, prompting his omission from the Fulham game.

Bruce would not go into detail but confirmed Malbranque had been the subject of club disciplinary measures - but he was now back in contention for Tuesday's game with Bolton.

"Whatever has happened, Steed knows what's happened and with that, he has been punished and he has taken his punishment," said Bruce.

"As far as I am concerned, the matter is closed. It will remain confidential, like anything that happens in the football club.

"Unfortunately with the media, it always seems to get out, but the matter has been dealt with. He is in the squad and he will play some part."
