Fulham v Everton - Sat 15.00
Everton's woes continued on Tuesday when they fell to a Carling Cup defeat against Brentford. The Toffees are winless in the Premier League thus far - their poorest start to a league season since 1994/95 - and the strain is mounting on manager David Moyes and his players. Everton are in action against Fulham at Craven Cottage, with their opponents unbeaten in the top flight this campaign, although four of their five matches have ended in draws. Mark Hughes' team could be struggling for firepower on Saturday after the club lost Moussa Dembele to injury during midweek, while Bobby Zamora is out long-term.
Man City v Chelsea - Sat 12.45(Sky2)
Chelsea appeared to be the juggernaut that could not be stopped in all competitions until Carlo Ancelotti's side - with only Ramires remaining from Sunday's 4-0 win over Blackpool - were beaten 4-3 by Newcastle in the Carling Cup third round. The exit came at a further cost to Ancelotti, who saw Salomon Kalou, Yossi Benayoun and Gael Kakuta all sustain injuries at Stamford Bridge. Manchester City as well suffered a disappointing loss, slipping to a 2-1 defeat against West Brom. And Roberto Mancini has something of a selection headache ahead of the Chelsea clash, with his backline looking decidedly bare.
Liverpool v Sunderland - Sat 15.00(Setanta Ireland)
Liverpool have endured a wretched week having been beaten by their foes United and then suffering a humiliating penalty shoot-out loss at Anfield in the Carling Cup third round against League Two outfit Northampton. Reds boss Roy Hodgson has since apologised to the club's fans for the hurtful loss. Hodgson's charges have an opportunity to make amends against Sunderland. The Black Cats salvaged a point in their previous league outing, but that was at home, with their away form still of obvious concern. Indeed, the Black Cats have only won two of their last 31 Premier League away games.
Arsenal v West Brom - Sat 15.00
In one of six 3pm kick-offs, Arsenal welcome West Brom to Emirates Stadium. The Gunners were denied late on in their last league outing at Sunderland but Arsene Wenger, who watched from the stands at White Hart Lane due to a touchline suspension, saw his team, which included a mixture of experience and youth, dispose of Tottenham in some style in the Carling Cup on Tuesday. The Baggies have garnered seven points so far this term while they saw off City on Wednesday. Their last trip to the Capital, however, did end in a 6-0 drubbing, so Robert Di Matteo will be wary of similar defensive naivety, while goals on the road have been an issue with none scored in their last four Premier League away matches.
West Ham v Tottenham - Sat 15.00
West Ham United lock horns with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Upton Park with the latter reeling from their painful 4-1 loss to their North London counterparts. Spurs did notch their second league victory of the campaign last weekend but, amid a full-on fixture schedule, the pressure is on manager Harry Redknapp to balance his squad ahead their UEFA Champions League tie versus FC Twente on Wednesday. Bottom-of-the-table West Ham, meanwhile, landed their second success under manager Avram Grant, although both those victories have come in the Carling Cup.
Blackpool v Blackburn - Sat 15.00
Blackpool's second home game of the season is against Blackburn Rovers. Despite being resoundly beaten in their last fixture, the feeling at Bloomfield Road is one of positivity, for few people could have predicted a return of seven points from the newly-promoted club's opening five matches. Rovers have not won since the opening day of the term, with the club drawing their most recent two encounters. Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has admitted to his concern at the way his team have made a habit of falling away as matches progress this term, and he will demand a marked improvement versus the Seasiders.
Birmingham v Wigan - Sat 15.00
Lastly on Saturday, Birmingham City host Wigan Athletic at St Andrews. The Blues suffered their first league loss of the campaign last weekend but responded in the Carling Cup as they saw off the MK Dons. And there were further positives to take as summer signings Alexander Hleb and Nikola Zigic scored their first goals for the club. Wigan 'boast' the worst defensive record in the division at present, which is evidence that last term's frailties have yet to be addressed. The club did rally during midweek as they came from a goal down to beat Preston, but there is still much, much work to do for manager Roberto Martinez.
Bolton v Man Utd - Sun 12.00 (ESPN)
At midday on Sunday, Manchester United face a potentially difficult clash against Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium. The Red Devils head into the match-up off the back of their Dimitar Berbatov-inspired scalp of Liverpool and their triumph over Scunthorpe in the Carling Cup. United already trail Chelsea by four points, so victory is essential while it would serve as a boost ahead of a tough trip to Valencia. The Trotters have slipped to defeat just the once in the league this term although they have mounted the same amount of three-point hauls, while their recent defeat to rivals Burnley will have smarted.
Wolverhampton v Aston Villa - Sun 14.05 (Sky1)
Sky Sports provide live coverage of Wolverhampton Wanderers' Midlands derby versus Aston Villa in match that marks Gerard Houllier's return to Premier League management. The former Liverpool coach will have been encouraged by his debut game in charge of Villa as he saw his new charges come from a goal down to beat Blackburn 3-1 in the Carling Cup. Wolves have suffered back-to-back league losses while manager Mick McCarthy will expect better from his charges after they required extra-time to dispose of League One club Notts County.
Newcastle v Stoke - Sun 16.10 (Sky1).
The last match of a full programme of Premier League fixtures is Newcastle United's encounter against Stoke City at St James' Park, also live on Sky Sports. The Magpies should be buzzing after their incredible 4-3 scalp of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge coupled with their lofty position of sixth in the league table. Stoke, meanwhile, have put together a something of a mini run of good form, with the club unbeaten in their last three games in all competition, and they will be keen to extend that momentum.
