It would appear we have come the full circle. Having won the World Cup in 1966 against Germany the FA has appointed Thomas Tuchel as manager of the England team. Like some others on this board I lived through the War and whilst having no fear in my youth the memories still linger. I remember going an exchange visit to Munster in 1952 and there were certain districts we were told were no go areas. In a relatively small village in the countryside where we stay for a week, where it appeared every fourth building was a pub/inn.I was talking to a middle age man who kept asking me what I wanted to drink which I thought was a nice gesture so, after a couple of beers I just pointed to a bottle on one of the shelves. Like an idiot I accepted further drinks and I was getting drunk, not use to this quantity, when the German started talking about the War in unfriendly terms. Of course I defended my corner and the arguing really got out of hand and the others boys with me, all under age, suggested we moved on. As I unsteadily got ready to beat a hasty retreat the man indicated to the barman that I was to pay to which I retorted it was he that kept asking me what I wanted to drink. I don’t what happened but just hurriedly departed. The point of the story was to show the bitterness on both sides existed for a very long time and I am sure still exists in certain areas even today. I am not sure what other posters think but I suppose if he delivers on the pitch most would not be overly concerned if Michael Jackson’s monkey was appointed so long as it meant winning the World Cup again. Be interested to here other sensible comments from other people.

Thomas Tuchel, has just got to be a vast improvement as England's International side manager/coach, than either the ultra defensive Southgate, who bored us to death, or the very inexperienced, attack minded but clueless in defence, Carsley. He maybe German, but if he can turn our side into a winning European Cup one, who really cares what nationally he is.

Let’s face it would always choose an Englishman, doesn’t look like Carsley is up to the job if we win anything under Tuchel he’ll be a hero.Question is what happens if we play Germany?

I just read with interest that the bitch Reeves has claimed £4,400 in government expenses to heat her second home. Can this be true?? I can’t believe that so many people fell for Labour BS. I agree with means testing winter fuel payments but at least make the income threshold the same as minimum wage.

MST it was £3,700 over 5 years and she stated she has two homes to look after, implying she will continue to claim energy costs. You must understand it is difficult for her to manage on a pittance. However, as far as I know her official residence is No. 11 Downing Street, with Dorneywood a Grace and Favour house near Burnham Beeches, which she has use of when she is not too busy. This residence is set in beautiful National Trust Land. I suspect both residences are paid for by you and me.

It's all about ratings for Starmer and him doing the 'cool' things. I also don't like the way how this self important jump up son of a toolmaker pretend Socialist can even dare to take down a photo on a wall for decades simply because he didn't like a picture staring down at him or he read it in a book that someone was or is racist?. Enid Blyton was rumoured to be racist but that is their view or opinion which wouldn't stop me from reading a book from Enid Blyton to my grandchild. I don't care if Churchill was racist because i look at the great things Churchill did for the war effort. This woke Government is the worst Government this country has and we should have seen it coming. This Labour is the wokest Godless and most inept and don't have a clue Government there ever is. Starmer's class experiment is already blowing up in his face and dont get me started on his transport minister the one with red hair who he now denies that he sided and agrees with her views. Again Starmer and smilie Reeves put on their best faces for the business projects. I keep saying this' study universities and getting good grades matter a great deal and no woke experiment with dunces who don't make the grades will work. You just wouldn't put a student who can't add 2 plus two behind a check-out and if anyone is daft enough to try this, you will lose money. Yes' there are a few from council estates who will work hard and be has good as anyone in the top league but not mouthy Raynor or that dud of a red-head. Lammy is feeling ashamed of his rented estate which he say's cantains too much green-space and he secretly wants more houses on it. We have made a mistake with Labour and it is embarrassing when the likes of failure Boris can attract people in a conference at £50 quid a go which says a lot. When it comes to business' the Conservatives are streets ahead of this Labour lot. Rant Over!!!

Owen, I agree with you entirely and will not even mention minor errors. Unfortunately, for us things will not improve until the Conservatives or anyone else can prove to be a viable proposition. We will suffer both individually and as a country. I am afraid the two R’s followed by S will strangle free enterprise, scare off potential investment whilst forcing entrepreneurs to leave the country as the tax burden will drain the life blood from the once great country we once was. Winston Churchill was truly one of the greatest English men of all time despite his many faults. A brave soldier from the Boer war, one of our greatest writers and a fantastic orator whose speeches will be remember forever unless the woke mob decide to attempt to erase his memory by destroying everything Churchillian. The flame that kept the country going during our darkest period between 1939 to 1942 may have died but , no doubt, his name will live for a thousand years or more.

Sadly it's the same the world over, there are no trustworthy politicians anymore. We used to have Statesmen, men with vision you could look up to. Then we had politicians, who were in touch with the population career men you understood service. Now we just have self-serving fly-by-nights who are only in it to line their own pockets, many millennials who want it all now and cannot look any further forward than the next election and thus pay day and care not a jot about the people they "serve". BTW, watch out, the US is about to vote Labor too....

Bob, you do post some absolute nonsense on here at times. Just use your simple little brain, if it wasn't for Boris Johnson and his swift moves to get the Covid beating injections, you would probably be brown bread by now, and if heaven forbid Keir the free gear had have been our PM at the time, thousands of more deaths would have occurred. Now that he is PM, he will probably, if we have a bad winter, make up for that, by killing thousands of pensioners, due to snatching away their fuel allowances. This will be the worst government in our history, and they have already made a good start, and it's only 102 days in so far, and just to think we have got another possible 4 years, of this tragic mob.

Following their humiliating defeat against Greece, England bounced back to thrash a star studded Finnish team with a display for the connoisseurs confirming Carsley’s credentials as the future England manager. Following a scintillating move Grealish suddenly found the ball at his feet and in desperation to kick it away he mistakenly put it in to the net. Finland decided it would serve no purpose in taking advantage of the underdogs by continually wasting or deliberately missing their attempts on the England goal. Eventually England were awarded a free kick when Grealish fell to the ground exhausted, with the referee unsighted he played it safe by awarding a foul. Trent- Arnold stepped up and dispatched the ball which the keeper appeared to move late allowing the ball to pass under his outstretched arms. Following a goalmouth melee Rice contrived to miss kick the ball which resulted in an unexpected goal. This is when Finland showed their quality when a corner was firmly dispatched into the top corner with four English player firmly rooted to the spot watching but failing to take any action. This finally brought relief to those watching on television and curtailed the fight back by Finland. The English supporters in the ground actually broke out with our National Anthem to express their support which brought my slumber to a close as, all ex military people automatically do regardless.

Have to confess one of the few times, the Greece match being another , that I have switched off, can’t remember the others, I think it must have been during Walter Winterbottom’s time:) Agree with you most of the time Bigboy but I honestly think Carsley is worse than useless. If you can’t beat league 1 and Championship players with the talent at Englands disposal, then it’s time to find another career. I guess anyone can’t improve but honestly, do we have to wait whilst he learns on the job. Last point surely experimentation should be for the training ground or friendlies’ not during a major competition, albeit this one is a bit Mickey Mouse and borders on the irrelevant, a bit like an international League Cup:) Just the authorities squeezing the last penny out of the Golden Goose. At least I’ve still got cricket.

Being a football manger need considerable intelligence, along with full tactical awareness and able to get the players to understand and accept his demand and a psychological awareness of how to get the bet out of the players. The interim manager seems to be lacking any of these requirements of a manager and I really hope he is not appointed as I will stop watching England matches as that will be a complete waste of time.

In the books he drove a totally made up car but in the original series with the great Roger Moore drove a Volvo P1800, only because the producers couldn’t afford something posher. The Jensen came later in a Saint reboot, in the 70s I think. Although the Volvo Moore used was built in the Jensen factory. I was trying to be clever as usual. The Interceptor was a great looking car though.

Some say we need a new and bigger impact striker than what we already have and the jury is still open about that one. Jimenez is saving our blushes with his resurgence of form and we could argue that Jimenez still has all his abilities intact ready and waiting to burst out like a flower in the bloom of the spring we are so eager to see once more before our harsh winter to come to the fore. I was happy for Muniz who has taken an unplanned rest and he is clearly behind Jimenez now. You have to feel sorry for the strikers or some say target men now who need to come in and hit the ground running and score goals which doesn't always happen straight away. Muniz at least showed a little bit of magic by scoring our 2nd goal against City and it was a good one to see. It would be a shame to see him sold on because he genuinely has talent and he will improve but not necessarily as quickly as we want him to. But no need for negativity because time is on our side and with ample points in the bag we are doing alright for a club our size. I suppose what i want to say is keep doing what you are doing Jimenez and do more, score lots of goals and Muniz too when he chance comes. A striker's life is never easy and goals is what keeps everyone happy and contented but there is this thing about a January window and a question we all ask? Do we go in for another striker? The short answer is Jimenez and Muniz will have to deliver and keep up the supply of goals that aren't exactly flowing like milk and honey. My other concern is our midfield and there is a slight concern that the assistance of Tom Cairney and Harrison Reed is not enough. Cairney came on and showed that he still retains ability and he was effective against a strong Man City side who usually take apart most teams around us with 5 and 6 nil spankings, we really are doing okay but do we need more quality? Harrison Reed is spoken about in the highest of honours but is he really that good or a good enough speck of a holding midfield player? We play Villa after the international break and we will come up against John McGinn, how do we compare Reed against McGinn or is that an unfair comparison, they are both 29 by the way. We are doing alright without the defensive Palinha and some say the improvement in Lukic is adequate but i am still not convinced. Do we still need a Andrea Pirlo who can do the intelligent job required when passing a football upfield but also do the dirty job of cleaning up and stopping dangerous balls from cutting through our defence line? Maybe i am asking the world and maybe Harrison Reed is enough for what we need and i am expecting to much? Maybe Smith Rowe will come back after the international break and hit the ground running much further up the pitch and maybe pigs might fly to the moon. Is this our team now and i be patient, satisfied and content because we are Fulham or do we aim for higher and bigger things? Do i want a bigger and bigger present from Santa this year or should i settle for M/S boxer shorts and socks again?
Replies
We are good in patches, we have all these great midfielders but they have trouble getting a ball through a defence. They are frightened about using the long ball. Our two forwards kept making good runs but the ball is hardly ever given to them. The defence is woeful, If Finland could finish they could have beaten us. The only positive was the win but against a decent team we would be slaughtered. We need a proper new manager and time for him to understand what he is expected to do.

We should try a few long balls to who ever is playing up front for us and when we pass from the back try to move the ball forward quickly. Avoid sideways and back passes unless you have no choice. I remember Jean Tigana said do not worry about passing to a man who is marked as he should be clever enough to break away from him.

Bonuses for staying at home. They are technically saving companies millions. If they get rid of all their expensive offices blocks, sack all the train drivers because we won’t need them, I think we could be quids in. All it needs is sound business acumen and a proper actuarial assessment. There you are…..sorted. :-0))

Think we should take a lesson from Thomas the Tank Engine. Driverless trains are the future. I’d rather rely on a computer than a fat spotty northerner with halitosis and a couple of razzles in the cab to get me home. And while we’re on the subject of marauding foreign criminals, how come they can stop winter fuel payments in minutes but can do nothing to stop a few dinghies? We should take lessons from the Japanese on both trains and immigration. Something I like about Japanese trains is that there is no faffing about before you board them. You just Nippon.

There are few things more satisfying in football than bellowing out "he's one of our own" - and that's why we were so pleased to see Ryan Sessegnon return to the club this summer. One name set to join him on the team sheet, at some point during this campaign, is Josh King. The 17-year-old won 'Scholar of the Year' last season and he has been handed a first-team squad number this term. The cherry on the cake? The youngster captained England Under-18s last month. King is the latest jewel in our academy crown. Fulham has long been considered a great place to develop future stars – with Moussa Dembele, Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho all coming through our youth set-up. Under Huw Jennings, it won't be long until Motspur Park is talked about in the same breath as Hale End, in terms of its footballing pedigree, but we haven't been so good at integrating these starlets into our first-team fold or holding on to them if they break through. Elliott and Carvalho were gobbled up by Liverpool for a pittance – and the latter has ended up at Brentford just two years later anyway. Dembele went north of the border to Celtic for a paltry fee, after scoring for fun in the Championship, only for Brendan Rodgers to speak like he scouted him from the Moroccan second division! Then there are the players who got away - the most notable is Matt O'Riley. He couldn't get a game under Scott Parker during our 2019-20 promotion campaign, so it was no surprise when he declined a contract offer and left for MK Dons in search of first-team football. A successful stint at Celtic preceded his £25m move to Brighton this summer. Recent ankle surgery aside, I think he will be a success for the Seagulls. Carvalho was our last academy graduate to make his first-team debut, but that was back in 2020. King will be the man to end that drought – and it will happen soon. As the famous commentary line goes: 'Remember the name...'

In an ideal perfect England nothing would be privatised and the Government would take care of every business from water gas trains everything but everything wasn't perfect before privatisation. The word here is money and lots of it and what was happening was lets say for instance most governments would put the NHS as a priority for the biggest funding and trust me you could take your pick for who gets funding next down the list which would be varied and controversial. There are a lot of clued up people who will tell you that even before privatisation things were not perfect or rosy-posey as people might think today. There are probably more cons than pros with privatisation because people at the top get greedy and businesses fall apart and are neglected ect ect but the Government cannot take on and bail out every business. We can see what happens to Government and the economy when they take on or try to take on small businesses and dept and we only have to look at what happened in the Covid years when the Conservatives tried to bail every business out. Very noble of them to try to do this gesture but the truth is some of those businesses would have gone bust anyway and this is part reason why we have so much more dept now. The Ukraine war Covid and lockdowns came along like a bullet train and we can say they are extraordinary times and whoever was in power then would have made mistakes and you can judge that on what was happening elsewhere in the world.

Essential service should be owned by the state who can control prices and improvements and their main concern is providing a service to their customers. You only need to look what is happening in the Premier League to see the difference, the Clubs are all looking for ways to get around the FIFA financial and they arguing amongst themselves about what is legitimate and what is not. This is the worst aspect of capitalism, trying to find dodgy ways to increase your profits so you can pay your shareholders.

Having only retired at the end of March this year, I have never been in the position nor had the inclination to watch daytime TV. That has continued to be the case since retirement however, today my wife has gone out for the day and after a little light housework, walking our dogs for an hour and doing my daily e-bike ride, I found myself watching Storm Huntly on C5 (I think). It held my interest for a little while if I'm honest but one of the subjects was; "should we pay for parking". Either I am massively out of touch or the people producing the show are living in cloud cuckoo land. Since when have we not paid for parking? I am only 66 (next month) but I am struggling to remember a time when I haven't paid for parking!! I live in sleepy hollow, Forest of Dean and there is certainly no carpark locally or in Gloucester where I can park for free (save supermarkets). Similarly, when I drive down to watch FFC all parking is chargeable (even on the streets) except for some side streets in W6 at weekends or after 5/6pm. Inane post I know but I'm bored and it may interest someone in a similar quandary lol.....

Gordon is a complete enigma, he looks like a good player, but when it comes to the crunch he isn't. He was terrible tonight as he was against Everton a week ago. Playing for Everton has shot Pickford's confidence, as that is the worst game I've seen him play for England, so maybe it is time we had a change of keeper. England as a whole, were pathetic this evening, and Carsley is not going to be our new manager, as even Southgate looked better, and that'ssaying something.

Greece have a decent manager as he could see that with all those attacking players in the team there was lots of space to break into. England's defence were pathetic, which did not help. We could not run through their defence but they ran through ours easily. Greece were the better team by a mile.

Any ordinary coach should now you can’t play all them wingers in one side and the balance of the team not be affected it was a shambles. You must defend as well as attack complete mess. And don’t let pundits kid you Greece were good they were also losing ball at back and making mistakes.

Owen, in life you eventually learn to pick their battles and I respectfully suggest Boris was not your finest hour. I admit that Boris did have charisma which was clearly shown by being elected Mayor of London against all odds and subsequently leading the Tories to their fourth consecutive Election victory. However, I believe he made a right hash of Brexit in bulldozing it through without considering the consequences of his ill judged victory. In addition, the management of Covid proved to be costly and ineffective and subsequently led to the downfall of both Boris and the Conservative Party. I still have visions of that stupid woman drinking at a meeting saying something along the lines of “who said we are holding a party”. Labour did not have to do anything to win the Election, Boris was their greatest ally. Stammer, Reeves and Rayner will ruin this country with their hair brain schemes and the politics of envy to redistribute wealth by rewarding those who show no inclination to work. The so called “soak the rich” policy is ludicrous when sixty of the wealthiest people in the UK contribute £3 billion in tax. It will not take much more for these people to relocate to more beneficial tax countries. We have already experienced the Unions flexing their muscles in the first few weeks of Labour’s victory and make no mistake they will ensure the Pubic Sector will always be the Union’s main concern and to hell with the rest. History will be the judge of Boris and I suspect it will not be favourable. So, Owen when in a hole stop digging.

Agree. People said Liz Truss damaged this country. That’s true but fortunately, she quit and the damages she did was limited and quickly resolved. Her idea is not such a bad one but her execution was terrible. However, Boris is the biggest joke PM in the history of UK. He’s selfish, absolutely not interested in the details and he’s a proven liar. He only wanted Brexit because he saw an opportunity and a path to become the PM. The damage he’s done, with his and Farage’s lies on the rose tinted opportunities if we exited EU have proven to be false - that’s 5 years now after the exit. I don’t think Boris is evil but the damage he’s done to this country will take 50 years to recover.

Lol' Bigboy i hear you and everyone. The Boris post just coincided with the outing of his book and was never meant to be taken seriously. It is still interesting how the character of Boris gets any attention and i scratch my head about any amount of book sales and revenue he accumulates. No one has picked up the resemblance and character of Boris to a Dickens /Enid Blyton or someone out of a wind in the Willows or an old Etonian back in the day cad/spiv/rotter/ you get my drift. Rolled into one a person like Boris with all these traits was never able to solve any problems from the Brexit turnover and i very much doubt many would have gotten any change from our European brothers either. The Covid years is the next big one and again you just couldn't predict it and Boris aside, i doubt anyone else would have made life decisions correctly. Boris and opinion to the Covid is one of those. Did it come from a lab in China or is it simply another flu virus? Flu and cold bugs killed millions a few hundred years ago and we could debate if there was any proper enquiry back then a lot of people from this Country would be libel and most likely prosecuted for the spread of the virus etc. Instead of keeping up the blame game i really think we in this country should draw a line under Covid and the Brexit fiasco. Just make the best of Brexit now because with Boris or no Boris, we did want change and i think a lot of countries would like to break away from Europe also. The lying and cheating from Boris something deep into his character and i guess people still love the old Etonian rogue of a fellow like Boris and his book sells which ask the question, how does he do it?

I say old chap or i say old bean, have you 'er' the time to read my post, 'now there's a good fellow'! Like him or loathe him, Boris will make a few million quid from writing another memoir with chapters upon chapters and stutterings with truths and half-truths and explanations about his innocence and we love him for it, and i should say the old biddies and grand Etonians will love his book. With the internationals on our doorstep, i think i should fill your boots with Boris Johnson the man, the character you would find in a Enid Blyton mystery or Wind in the Willows or a Dickens novel. Perhaps we yearn for a Boris character that is nowhere perfect and we say tuck yer shirt in Boris and straiten that tie sir if you please! Boris will bumble through his book no doubt and nothing was ever his fault in the Covid etc etc. What could i say is Boris's strong points and his talent that draws attention to himself and why will his book sell millions off the shelf? The short answer to all that is if i knew the answer i would bottle it. Boris is perhaps the best statesman there we hands down. Who else can go to the Ukraine and many more places where they will roll out the red carpet and listen to this man for hours. I will leave you with one old one if i may. the saying goes 'No Folks Funny as an Englishman'... Have Fun!!!

Archer was an MP from 1969 to 1974 but quit following a financial scandal that left him almost bankrupt. He became the Tories' deputy chairman in the 1980s before resigning after a newspaper accused him of paying money to a prostitute. He later won a court case and was awarded large damages because of this claim. He resigned his candidacy in the London Mayor election in 1999 after it emerged that he had lied in his 1987 libel case. Mr Archer was later imprisoned between 2001 and 2003 for perjury. He was convicted for perverting the course of justice. He was sentenced to four years' imprisonment by Mr Justice Potts. He spoke to the Mirror in 2018, saying he had mellowed with age.“Yes. Everybody thinks so. It’s very sad,” he told the newspaper .“I certainly realised how privileged I was, how lucky I was,” he said, reflecting on his time spent in jail.“There was one kid sitting on the end of the bed when I was leaving on the Monday and he said ‘I’d change places with you’."I said ‘wait a minute, I’m 62 years old. You’re 27. You’ve got a deal’. He said ‘No, no, I’m a heroin addict’ and he died two years later. This was from Jeffrey Archer and yes' i find it interesting and i think a lot of people will too. Sometimes life can bite you in the googlies and there is a lesson to be learned. Like them or loathe them some of these guys are talented and good writers and their stories will be very inspirational and a comfort to some poor soul. Jonathon Aitken is a sound bloke and another one to experience prison. I have not read his book fully but i have read extracts and yes he did wrong but he is one stand up and decent guy who i respect and admire. Aitken is now a prison chaplian and he is a great help to some of those unfortunates in life and an inspiration to those who want to turn their lives around.

Only a small percentage of the population was at high risk. There was no logical thershold for 'lockdown or no lockdown' proven by the fact that every country had significantly different rules. Fool.

The Labour idiots wanted further and deeper lockdowns which would have trashed the economy more, all the while apparently living the high life in £18 million apartments they didn’t own as they appeared on tv telling us to stay at home. The government hates you. Do nothing for them, don’t give blood, don’t volunteer if you can afford to leave, do so. Let them trawl the asylum hotels for help. Was just watching BBC London and Paul Merson, the well climate scientist was at Hackney Marshes appearing for an organisation campaigning about the effects of climate change causing flooding in public sports spaces. First of all, he was on a marsh, which by any definition is going to be wet and there was no mention of any alternative contributing factors, I.e. building endless flats on flood plains, water companies cost cutting, councils not cleaning the gutters etc. We’re being conned and have been for years. When was the last time we scored directly from free kicks? I can't remember. May be Harry Wilson or Wllian has scored? I don't recall, nor do I recall Pereira ever scoring from these situations, yet he keeps taking them. Surely there is someone in the team who can kick a dead ball from 20/25 yards and beat the keeper. Like Dickens' novel, we live in Great Expectations.

Don’t know why Cairney doesn’t take more free kicks when on pitch great left foot. Great cameo when he came on Saturdays ran midfield

Yes' i think Cairney should have a go now and again and he still is a fantastic player and he stood out in his short role-play against City. Wilson seems to have digressed and he is more a sub these days. Despite the criticism we can work with Pereira and he did show great awareness to sneak in for that goal, fantastic build-up. Pereira is capable but he seems to have lost his way. I would go with the confidence trickster at the moment and why not give Jimenez more responsibility for free-kicks and deadball situations.

PL managers have made their players very good at defending corners and free kicks that may be the answer. In the lower divisions a ball is put into the box and an unmarked man heads or kicks it into the net frequently through the goalkeeper hands or legs.

I sometimes wonder what a significant number of posters actually expect from our team which has seen changes forcing Marco to adapt team tactics in order to accommodate the attributes of our new players. Some of us thought it was possible we might snatch a point and reflecting on the clear cut chances we had that was no pipe dream. We should all be proud of our teams performance against one of the world’s best teams. Traore certainly scared the City’s defence and if he had the ability to chip the oncoming goalkeeper he would certainly have scored two goals. We must credit City on scoring two wonder goals although, I thought their third goal was partly due to the defence giving Doku far too much room allowing him to move forward and scoring with an unstoppable shot. The positive approach was good to see demonstrating Fulham need not fear the top teams. The brilliant back heel by Raul, for Pereira to finally score a goal, was sheer brilliance. I am amazed to read some of the negative posts when we should be proud of our team.
Replies
Or defence is good most time but it seems to have a blind spot about long shorts which are as important to block as much as shots in the box. We lost the semi-final to Liverpool for the same fault. You cannot leave those to the keeper as they frequently get deflected away from him. I am sure they are working on this in training, when they are not all off representing their country.

if we can maintain the current form and for argument sake, we finished the season top 6. The sad truth whatever happens, even if the owners throw money at the club, it would probably the highest we can achieve. The reason for that is we finish top 6, we will lose our manager and our key players. Look at Brighton. They reached dizzy heights but sadly for them, they will probably never finish in the top 4. Even if they do, it would only be for one single season. So enjoy what we have today!!

Good post as usual Bigboy. If i may add, i think the subbing of Castgne may have tipped the balance to City on the right side in particular. We could see Castgne backing off Doku and they had more space etc. Castgne is not the quickest anyway and i might have persevered with Tete but again they are Man City so all this might be irrelevant. Their first goal was a deflection and maybe a few bodies flung on the ground to stop the Alamo and someone taking one for the team was all we can do in desperate circumstances. It was a galavant effort and we were not disgraced so on to the next game. Are there concerns about Traore and should there be? Honestly we knew what we were getting by signing him and everyone and his uncle will say that Traore cannot finish and that is a problem all teams connected with him have had. To be honest, i didn't think Traore would have 90 minutes so many times Marco has played him but i think we can justify that. Barring the City game Traore has contributed a lot of assists that has created goals and he has scored a few more than Pereira, i think i am right saying? Somebody will no doubt correct me. Yes' i also think if Marco is still insisting on Traore 90 minutes, i have no doubt that they will be working on his finishing. I am glad you mentioned the Jimenez back-heel and this is the sort of thing kids talk about in the playground. Maybe we should start a talk about genius past players such as Rodney Marsh, George Best, Berbatov, etc? One of my favourites was Charlie George and i remembered him signing for Derby. I have no affiliation to Derby i just remembered going to the Baseball Ground to see the great man. Something clicked with me and George when i saw the clip of him scoring that goal for Arsenal on the news, great stuff. It was a big thing hearing he signed for Derby back then. The funny thing was Charlie George was more absent because of injuries and sadly he only made so many appearances for Derby but great memories. I still bump into Henry Newton now and again but my allegiance is wholeheartedly to Fulham no worries...

How can Silva improve a players ability to score goals when it's not in their D&A? Traore's scoring record in football as an attacking M/F or forward is shocking. He hasn't got a natural instinct needed to score and the more time he has to think the less likely he will score. He reminds me of Cavaleiro, Parker's false number 9. Say no more.

There we were sitting 6th(now 8th)in the Premier League, and thinking what a good side we are this season, and then watching Villa v United, and Brighton(what a win)v Spurs, and we look better than all four of those teams, but is that the truth, or is it an illusion, and we are not as good as we think we are. At this stage of the season, I'm really not sure. Don't get me wrong I am absolutely delighted with our start, as most of us are, but us it a case of being having pride before a fall. One thing that we can be pretty sure about, and that is bar a castrophy, we will not be relegated. Wouldn't it be great if we can finish in the top 6 or 8, but are we jumping the gun at the moment.

Watched the whole game live on TV and i personally think it was an excellent performance. So Adama missed a few sitters, not bothered ,we werent expected to win yesterday so he can wack them in against Villa. Pity we dont have the same grit when we play weak teams. When the Khans signed Marco they would have given an arm happy if he molded a team just about able to keep us alive in the premier every season. . Hes now gone a step forward and right now we could match any europa league team. I know some here dont care about europe but if Marco is to stay he must set new goals and achieve them otherwise what point is there for him to remain. Much better being the magician who develped FFC into a top class team .Theres a lot of merit in that and little in getting Man Utd into the Champions league. COYW

Marco spotted Man C were playing an inexperienced full back and reversed the wingers. Rather late realising the problem The Man C manager put on Walker who Traoré ran past as if he were not there. We have one of the faster players in the League, and if he can be trained to finish consistently, one of the best.

Totally amazed at shearers reaction to the game on MOTD, saying how terrifing we are when we break, nothing but accolades for our team ,makes a change even though linaker brushed it aside as not bad.

I cannot recall a defeat that has generated so much optimism quite rightly as the combination of beating Newcastle and narrowly losing to Man City puts us a different level. With better finishing and luck we could have won all our games and be clear at the top of the table.

Strange how we are unhappy and even feel totally unjust that we didn't beat the two Manchester clubs away this season!! Marco is doing a great job with the resources given to him. He's fine tuning the team with small improvement each season. He found a way to play Traore, albeit still working with him on his finishing, that even a club like Man City had to adjust. They weren't able to suffocating us like they do to most teams by pressing the entire high because they were scared of Traore. Like Traore, Marco still working to improve Robinson's crosses, otherwise he's is now to Fulham what Robertson was to Liverpool at his peak. Not sure you noticed, Marco put both Traore and Robinson on the side of the pitch...that scared the sh*t out of young Lewis then Walker. Marco is a genius! I am really concerned that Man Utd will come for him. So I am routing for a Man U win today!!

Traore, ??? the funniest thing i read this week end was traore missing 3 total sitters ,again!! and Marco wanting to give him an extended contract, cant think what was most amazing. HE has very little idea what to do with the ball in front of goal , fast , scary but one on one one forget it,so are we not jumping the gun a bit singing his praises?, we should have well won that game ,and its not the firs time he as missed sitters , hence wolves parting company , please coach him to think a bit in front of goal.

If Traore is a good finisher, he’d be worth £150m. We got him for gfree and he changed the game. So try to look at the positives. Name another player who created two one on one situations. No one! It was a fantastic performance by Traore. Not a 10 as he didn’t score but a good 8 for me!

Not much point creating 3 chances if none go in , he does it quite often so will never be worth that much till he learns how to calm down in front of goal.

He may go off and practise so that soon he starts to score regularly. Add a finishing brain to the rest of his attribute he could become a twenty goals a season winger.

I was at the game. We were slow on the break, when city got a break they were on us in no time. When we got a break it was tip tap until their defence was back in position, so frustrating to watch. Most attacks ended without a shot, they always tried a shot and got corners. We need to try our luck more and have a go.

What a load of rubbish, even MOD said Fulham played well and gave evidence of Fulham breaking fast on a number of occasions, in fact Traore missed two sitters on two occasions when Fulham broke fast

We were behind the goal that we were attacking in the 2nd half. I didn’t watch motd but yes, we had some fast breaks which were good. We dominated for 10 to 15 minutes, the city support were silent and we sung ‘are we in a library. As we passed the ball around just outside their pen area they couldn’t get it from us, it was a great period but we did not have a shot in that period, we couldn’t get through, what I am saying is why not try our luck and shoot, we may have got a deflection and/or a corner instead of no shot. If you at the game you would know that unless you were one of those who spent more time at the bar than watching the game.

I watched the entire game on replay, Optus network. I think the original poster has a point. Fulham had control just outside city penalty area without a shot as they failed to cross with no ‘one touch. Fulham did the same to city but they always tried to bulldoze it through getting deflected corners. BBC say they had 8 blocked shots. This is why the big teams win these games, they see an attack without a shot as a waste. I also think being rude to posters is childless, it makes the rude poster look thick. Owen for one should know better.

Again, we should be proud and not be too critical of our team who lost out narrowly to Man City one of the best teams in the world. We do have quality in this Fulham team and it was a decent game for the Neutrals and if i may point out two extraordinary details of quality? The Jimenez back heel was brilliant and today it paid off came off you name whatever you like and even marmite Pereira got in on the act, he was right the right place. The next extraordinary bit of skill I would like to point out is the Muniz quick swivel and turn which was exceptional and if only he could do that more often. I hope we don't sell him, i would hate to play against Muniz who will be a nightmare to defenders when he eventually gets it together, Muniz is still not the finished article...

I have been singing his praises for weeks now and overall Adama Traore has earned and deserves his place in this Fulham team. Hands up to all fans who know what i will be saying next? Traore is never a finisher in the month of Sundays and if he was, he would be worth a hundred million plus. Traore will bag the odd goal which is still important for us when we tot the points up and stay in this league. Funnily enough i still have vivid memories of Traore scoring the winner for Wolves against us back in the Championship and their fans went crazy so we know he can do it, the problem is Traore turning up and you just never know when or where. Traore's best attributes are his pace which we know about and his passing game and assists are decent and he most definitely has gotten and gained us some good points this season. I wont give a long lost commentary and summing up of todays game because my well oiled cogs of the Industrial Revolution has surely grinded to a halt, i was warned by Big Boy so i will leave it to the professionals this week. There are a few capable of doing a top summing up along with Big Boy and i think MST is one of them but alas' the man hides his talent behind a bushel or he is just workshy or something like that? My second gripe is Marco's substitution of Castigne which i thought lost us that game today. Castigne is never the quickest of th block and jc is correct about Castagne backing off opponents and he was never going to beat Doku of the blocks and that is why he backed off him for Doku's goal. This was our problem today in particular, backing off talented players like Kovacic gives them space and they will gladly exploit it to our cost today. Yes' Marco got one right today and the introduction of Tom Cairney was a brilliant and welcome one because Cairney greatly influenced the game. Tom Cairney has his doubters and he sometimes is wrongly accused of being too slow but in this game against City who are the best operators in the business, Cairney is still showing that he is no back number and we still need him. Yes' anyone who still thinks Casagne was a good sub today should be 'er' castignated and put in the stocks and have rotten cabbages thrown at his head, nuff said!!!
Replies
He had three very good chances today and wasted them all. Unless he stays on the wing and passes to others to score he is not worth his place. Fulham winning 5 3 rather than losing 3 2 would have been better.

TTIN' On the subject of Traore i think i correctly titled this 'Information we know about' and it is what i have said. Traore is never or will never be the finished article and we either accept his shortcomings or we ship him out. Pep has complimented us Fulham and Traore who roasted Walker in the running stakes. Walker had half a yard on Traore yet the big man flew past him and no he didn't score but it was enjoyable and sometimes even when we lose, we can hold our hands up and say' it is what it is. Hands up how many fans or neutrals thought we were in for an 8 nil thumping? We accepted that we would probably lose the game even before kick-off and our record showed just that. It was 3-2 in the end and all parties come away with good things and i say we have many more admirers. Just stop and think for a moment on how many assists and some goals Traore has contributed to Fulham and trust me by season end, the stats will back up the right reasons why Marco signed him. I still say that the subbing of Castgne for Tete was one of the reasons why we lost to City. Castgne is not the strongest of defenders on fast operators like Doku...
posted by OWEN - Sunday 06th October 2024, 9:24 AM

But we played well enough to beat Manchester City if we could finish most of the good chances we get instead of some of them we could beat anyone. Under Roy we played a much more defensive system where did not create many chances but finished most of we did create. Playing under Marco we need to follow the same finishing pattern. All three of Traore chances were we hit towards the keeper rather than away or over him. With extensive practice and help from the club phycologist his finishing may improve. The alternative is at least when he makes his break other must follow to receive a pass in a scoring position.

Great game today and well played Fulham. Quick in the turnover causing City problems. We would have won today if we had a normal chance conversion ratio. Just a shame that Castagne is always backing-off when opponents run at him. Giving them space to turn inside and shoot (3-1 a few minutes after he came on for Tete).

Unfortunately we lost today, against a team unbeaten in 30 matches, and boy did we give them a run for our money. No-one including myself expected anything other than a defeat today, and as plenty of us mentioned on this site earlier, this was a game to prove ourselves, and that we did in spades. At present, we are a really good Premier League side, who can hold our own against any team now, especially at CC. Under Marco, we have come on in leaps and bounds, and let's aim for a finish in the top 10, and as high as we can in that top 10.

You have to subscribe now to watch most of the Fulham TV things, like the 90 minute rerun for example. If it is not shown on the news section you have to pay for it. It is not a lot unless you are very poor or very mean. I do not believe it is Fulham's fault it is the Premier League telling them they must charge.

With only one loss to Utd at the start of the season we can take one for the team and lose graciously or badly to Man City but i suspect that Marco Silva is not going into this game thinking about a loss or to stand and whistle Dixie-Land without a care in the world. No' our brilliant thoughtful and ambitious manager will go into this game knowing that we have regrouped tightened up adjusted and ready to go again after losing Palinha who we relied on to block everything and take a yellow in almost every other game possible. Our lineup and masterplan now which is running and working like the cogwheels of the great industrial revolution consist of Lukic Iwobi Smith Rowe Traore and Marmite-Pereira to win the ball back collectively instead of relying on one player Palinha to recover possession. It took me a while with a few head scratches to work out why the use of Jimenez instead of the nearly-man Muniz for first-choice striker because the pair of them don't exactly pull trees up. We now know that the resurgent form of Adama Traore and Jimenez who know each others game from their Wolves exploits is beneficial and working like a fine-tuned Rolls Royce engine or we can say a fast Ferrari for Traore. Our defence with the return of Andersen is special stout and resolute and built on the blue-print of the British Royal Navy. The aerial bombardment by against Forest last week was relentless and we should look back at that game with pride and just take in and see how good our defence is now. I have no doubt that we will come back down to earth with a loss a few times this season and we will say again, typical Fulham' we can't defend for peanuts! Will we have one of those days tomorrow against City? Maybe Guardiola will toast a glass of Claret with Marco after the game after another win for Man City? We all know Marco is proud of our team and he is ambitious and we are not going up there for the beers. On the contrary Fulham and fans, we are going up there to win' for the first time in Yonkers...

Owen, your hyperbole of Fulham’s achievements never cease to amaze me and I suspect you have black and white blood coursing through your body. It is a delight to read your articles and even if your imagination sometimes goes awry. Fundamentally, I almost agree with you but it is too early to embark on a lunar trip when there remain various faults that need to be addressed. As I said in a previous post, today’s match will provide a yardstick of how far we have come and if we can just take a few of our chances we may just snatch a point. Fulham have improved, which is shown by our wonderful start to the season but numerous bear traps await us with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City all displaying aspirations of league title contenders. If we suffer a defeat today the moaners will return and your well oiled cogs of the Industrial Revolution will grind to a halt. However friend, let not this curb your enthusiasm and imagination as our board need people like you to light the flame in the hearts of all true Fulham supporters.

Looking at the players he's brought (excluding Loans) in since he managed Fulham - Muniz, Wilson, Leno, Willian, Vinicius, Mbabu, Pereira, Lukic, Diop, Palhinha, benda, Jimenez, Castagne, Bassey, Iwobi, Cuenca, Berge, Anderson and Smith-Rowe. Not that many players if you think about it. Forest signed more players in 2 weeks last summer. And maybe apart from Mbabu, Benda and Vinicius, he's improved every single player he signed. That's an amazing ratio! He's added £100m's of player asset (in value) to the club. I am glad he is under-rated by other big clubs and the rest of the country. For me, he's a magician and I will be very sad the day he leaves this club!!

He’s such a top manager been with us a while, can’t see him staying long beyond he’s contract.Reckon he’ll be offered a big club or Saudi for he’s retirement pension.

I hope he stays long enough to get us into Europe, then we win something important. Hope I see us winning a trophies of significance before I leave this mortal coil. People have been praying, then hoping for this for nearly 150 years.

chief, he has already been offered what you suggested- and he turned it down. along with notts forest, a step sideways, and benfica, which didnt happen. too much speculation, too many rumours.

We are top 6 for a reason and there is no better a time than now in this moment this season why we can't make a euro spot. Marco Silva i think will go for broke because he will not get another 100 million. If we sell Robbo the top up money will bolster our attack if Jimenez and Muniz fluff their lines. Our strong point is timing and we have it because in the now our strikers have ample time to prove they cut the mustard well before the transfer window. None are prolific yet we find ourselves in the lofty position of 6th place and Man City is next up. I really believe there is no pressure on us because we are not expected to win so we can play without fear and enjoy the game firstly and you never know...

Have watched a few Championship games on the telly this week and had forgotten the huge gap in class between that and the properly named Premier League. I hope we are never relegated again.

I can't believe that Kew tip, has the audacity to come on to our site, and talk about us not having to wait long for relegation. With only two miserly victories themselves this season, against lowly Palace, and we all know that Palace were robbed of a perfect goal that day, and Southampton who couldn't beat a carpet, so if we do return to the Championship, it will be many years after the Bees are down to their comfortable Division 1 home. You never know, they might even take point from Wolves on Saturday at the leggo ground, as after all, Wolves are rock bottom, but Kew tip, I wouldn't count on it, and relegation for the mighty bees, isn't out of the question this season.

Our reserve team is not quite good enough to consistently beat Championship team, is that surprising. Marco has to believe in these reserves, we don't.

I don't know much about this game because Fulham wasn't on my radar back then but i found these stats which might be interesting. The Ref that day was the one and only Mike Dean who has stepped down from refereeing duties and he has taken up a Var role in ref studio. The attendance at the Manchester Stadium was 44,504 and we secured the win after Man City Stephen Ireland scored in 10 minutes followed by Benjani for City in the 21first minute. What a come back to beat them. We scored late on with goals from Diomansy Kamara 70th minute, followed by Danny Murphy 79th minute, and Diomansy Kamara for a brace in the 90th minute, Pheeew!!! Team was Kasey KellerGoalkeeper Brede HangelandDefender Aaron HughesDefender Paul KoncheskyDefender Paul StalteriDefender/Midfielder Jimmy BullardMidfielder Simon DaviesMidfielder Danny MurphyMidfielder Clint DempseyMidfielder/Forward David HealyForward Brian McBrideForwar Wouldn't it be something if we could do this all over again on Saturday? I like our chances and i think we have two fantastic stoute and strong defenders that can hold up to Haarland all day long, and rest of the team are going great guns, we are in a rich vein of form so you never know...

I've settled down to watch Villa v Bayern Munich, to see how Palhinha had settled in, but there he is sitting on the bench. Why did they take him off of us, he they weren't going to play him ?
Replies
Palinha isn't Kompany's choice of a defender and in these sort of games a Palinha style lunge in and a yellow is not good in the long run. Marco Silva is a top man at man management and footballers such as Palinha and our Adama Traore are better managed under these types of managers like our Marco. I sincerely believe this and from the information i get from Bigboy' Palinha and wife are separated and that is very sad for him and maybe disruptive. Palinha's move maybe was ill advised and the wrong move for him and family. Unfortunately, ex-Fulham players don't always do well away from our great club...

Look, let's all be honest, anything but a defeat against Manchester City would almost be a miracle, and it's basically just a match to pit our wits against the worlds best, and come away with a bit of pride, and try to keep the score at a reasonable level. We are not Arsenal yet, so let's just look forward to a home win against Villa, after yet another annoying International break.

Prior to the game most pundits thought Saturday’s game would finish as a draw with 1-1 being the most likely outcome. Forrest previously unbeaten, with Fulham without an away win and sitting just below Forest the signs indicated a very close game. I consider that most supporters would have considered gaining a point acceptable so, end up gaining three points was a bonus in my book. We dominated possession except for the last ten minutes but without rarely penetrating the 11 man defence set up by the Forest defenders. We certainly manage to carve out three or four chances with Rowe Smith clipping the bar and their keeper pulling odd two excellent saves. When the penalty came the only thing that was strange was that neither the referee or the linesman appeared not to have seen the incident which suggests a trip to SpecSavers might be appropriate. In this age of modern technology, which normally goes against us, the man in control of the VAR told the referee to consult the monitor screen, whereupon hen awarded what was a blatant penalty. In general, our defence played well although, times in the second half we relied on some Sunday morning methods in clearing our lines. Anderson and Robinson were stalwarts in a pretty solid defence but once again I consider we must look for a good old fashioned striker to bolster our attack which fails to inspire. Raul appears to gaining confidence with each game and hopefully this will continue. We are certainly making progress with our next match, away to City, providing a yardstick to how good or bad we are at this present stage. As an aside I note Palhinha has only started one Bayern game since his transfer and has become a regular bench warmer. In addition, he has left his wife who is pregnant with their second child. Perhaps the grass was not greener on the other side.

Raul scored 8 goals in his last 9 premier league games. That's fantastic form by any standard (any top 6 clubs would take that..). I think he has the ability to keep going and score even more. He's a quality player! I agree he's not the long term solution (neither is Muniz in my opinion) but he's young and fit enough to give us a good season.

Andersen was named motm which is testament of how good our defence is this season. Funny i would have given it to Bassey for that outstanding tackle that survived a var. Again good summing up match report Bigboy' did anyone notice how many long-ball throw-ins Forest have in their repertoire? It was almost like watching a Wimbledon or Cardiff. Some say that our prem is the most technical in the world.?

Good post bigboy, you should become a journalist. I was reading our match report in the Sun. There were three quite long columns about the game, but apart from giving our line up at the bottom of the third column, we are not mentioned. What is it the press don't like about us

We were technically much better, we defended very well and controlled the game. Marco must have been very pleased with that performance. Follow it up with a good result against Man City and we are really going places we have never been before.

I think we are all on the same page and acknowledge that Joachim Andersen is a brilliant signing for us and we marvel at the hard work Andersen does in his defensive duties. Andersen is king of the dark arts and he is a smooth and subtle operator and very different from the likes of Palhinha who refs will always keep an eye on. Calvin Bassey has been here longer than Joachim and he famously goes off to the African Nations faithfully for his country Nigeria which is not popular or desired by a huge chunk of Fulham fans. There is one thing no one can say about Bassey and that he is a slacker and not committed to Fulham. This bulk of a warrior came back from the Nations and threw himself into the battle without a murmur for a rest and we were glad to see him back. Bassey has demonstrated a sometimes unorthodox style of defending to say the least and that tackle in the penalty area subjected to a var investigation could have gone against us but it didn't, we would have crucified him if that was deemed a penalty. The big man committed himself and did the dirty work which sometimes look ugly but it is effective. Bassey, i liken him to a Chieftain Tank and he surges up the pitch with great authority and presence and he is brave and bold and i just felt that we need to give him credence and genuine love and the utmost respect that he deserves. If there was a meddle for boldness and bravery i think i would give it to Calvin Bassey...

We have two great full backs as well with Lukic doing a great job of protecting them. We have one of the best defences in the League and must build our from that.
