With now up to six countries condemning Trump’s actions in Venezuela, it reminds me a little of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand which was the catalyst for the First World War. Hope I’m wrong but I don’t think this will slip quietly pass Russia and China.

Sounds like turbulent times. My advice is pick a side, stick to it and be prepared for the consequences if you lose.

I am not a Trump fan but this news might be good news for Ukraine? Here is a bit of a news snippet i picked up from somewhere on the net.
Fears have also seeped out from the Kremlin and have infected online spaces where Russians have shared concerns that oil prices will collapse and damage the country's economy which is reliant on energy exports. Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska said American control of Venezuelan oil could have serious negative consequences. Trump is a child in a world of grown-ups but this move by the Americans might just force Putin to do a deal that will see Ukraine keep most of the Dumbass and all the regions important to Ukraine. Maduro was not even elected so no sympathies there but i see your point MST, the West should not interfere with any countries affairs. Leave it to the peoples to bring an uprising to force change. Here is a fact and a piece of history you guys might be interested to know? Britain was the first country to drill oil in Venezuela in 1918. Maduro, if he had a brain he would have made a deal with one of the Western countries to bring in some heavy machinery and drill baby drill oil and make his country prosper but those who are currupt and greedy don't think like that.

Dangerous and illegal precedent set by Trump. What next? There are at least another 30 countries where their leaders were not elected fairly. Including Russia. If that’s a license to abduct them, might as well start world war 3! Trump is just a big bully and what’s annoying all their allies, including UK, are like kids standing behind him and too scared to condemn. Not just weak political leaders, I also have friends who visit America regularly are afraid to discuss anything negative about Trump on WhatsApp because they are afraid what could happen to them next time they land in the US. WTF?!

30 countries? You could probably add a zero, include any muslim country, all of africa, we’re nearly there too. China and Russia have been protecting their interests like this for years. I’d wait and see what happens in Venezuela before hitting the panic button. Other South American might now tow the line. China is buying up infrastructure and building roads everywhere and not because they’re being nice. Don’t let your hatred of the ginger God stop you seeing the big picture.

I have been to Caracas twice and is was easy to see that the city was controlled by drug barons. If Trump wants to do an effective job he needs to kill all the drug men and burn their crops out of existence. But of course Trump does not really care about the drugs he just wants their cheap petrol.

It isn’t about drugs it’s about oil. The drugs issue is just something to hide behind. Greenland don’t have many drug cartels, but they do have masses on rare earth minerals as does Ukraine of course which, similarly he can’t wat to get his hands on. USA + Venezuela will dominate world oil with the right mix of grades.

Who will be next? Cuba, Colombia maybe even Mexico. This colonialism on a massive scale.

I’d rather a democracy was in control of the world’s resources rather than dictators. Say all you like about colonialism but the fact is that Russian and Chinese backed Cuban mercenaries were protecting the cartel boss when he was arrested. These are dangerous times, time to pick a side.

The kind of oil Venezuela is sitting on — heavy, sour crude — requires special equipment and a high level of technical prowess to produce. International oil companies have the capability to extract and refine it, but they’ve been restricted from doing business in the country.
The United States, the world’s largest oil producer, has light, sweet crude, which is good for making gasoline but not much else. Heavy, sour crude like the oil from Venezuela is crucial for certain products made in the refining process, including diesel, asphalt and fuels for factories and other heavy equipment. Diesel is in tight supply around the world — in large part because of sanctions on Venezuelan oil. Basically an over-production of the good stuff , the heavy oil will force the price down which will be bad for Russia and any friends Russia still have? India who buy from the Russians have been threatened by the US and Trump so they play ball and cease to buy from the Russians. Maybe the boy child Trump has some brains afterall but i still think that Maduro should be dealt with by his own people. Lat thing to say; Venezuuela might have the best supply of the heavy stuff but you still need the heavy mob and high tech equipment to extract it. Its not right what USA and trump is doing and they will take their fill but maybe it is also a win-win for Venezuela, to create jobs build roads etc etc, ???

I used those words Paddy because American had always worked to dismantle the British Empire. Therefore there was a big helping of irony directed at their duplicity.I agree a benign colonial power is preferable to dictatorship. Just ask most aAfrican countries. The bareface is a tad ironic. This is of course is to assume Trump is indeed benign, only time will tell.

Yep, the world is much happier since the Empire folded, Africa looks great now. On a lighter note I’m loving how Maduro is rocking the casual look. There’s hope for us all.

In Spite of what you say about processing costs Owen, their fuel, many cruise visit Caracas because the price of their fuel is the cheapest in the World. The cruise ship even provides tours around one of the most dangerous cities on this planet.

What a dangerous hypocrite Trump has become, interfering in so many conflicts while seemingly about to start more. With Trump and Putin in office World war 3 is getting closer by the minute. They are both meglamaniacs with the only things in common are " T,U & P"
