We the fans have witnessed signing players when they were not fully fit to play, so if this deal for Rodrigo Muiz from Flamenco in Brazil fails to firm up, I am happy about that. Ditto this chap Grimes who is currently out injured. It is not clever to sign footballers when they are injured or injury prone. Why does Fulham FC keep selling its assets? Surely when we have good players like Ryan Sessesgon, Harvey Elliott and others these are our future and should be held tgether to form a footballing side seeped in Fulham with some loyalty to club and fans? This club must stop the revolving door of players as it is not only expensive it will get us no where.
Replies
Firstly the Lad from Brazil isn’t injured, he’s has had a positive COVID test. Secondly, you can keep players like Sess and Elliott against their will. If they want to go there’s nothing we can do about it.

I thought it was Grimes that had Covid and we were just renegotiating the price for Munez? We'll probably sign neither :0))

I see the complexity of this transfer business. The Brazilians wanted £8m plus 20% of any sell on transfer value. We offered £6m plus 50% sell on transfer value and it is thought they will accept.

According to the sports headlines it looks like Lookman will join either Palace or Watford. It's a shame the we couldn't have tried to get him, as he would be very good in the Championship, but not eventually being very good in the Premier League.

Not interested in Spurs or Man City but very interested, or should I say, dislike in players wanting cakes and eat it! If Kane wants to leave, then he should formally put in a transfer request. But if cos he wouldn’t, as it means he wouldn’t get a payoff moving to a club that he wants to join. He was happy to sign a five year contract no so long ago, he should be pleas d to honour it or put in a transfer request. Not reporting to work for me is very unprofessional. Kane - you are good and you are generally well liked - don’t do a Sterling or Sanchez (ex Arsenal) then be disliked forever.
Replies
What do you expect from Kane? When it really matters, Euro final etc, he always goes missing. Hope Spurs stop paying him for breaching his contract and let him rot.

I’m somewhat old fashioned regarding contracts, as , unlike either Kane or, indeed, Boris Johnson, I believe that a signed deal is a signed deal, unless both parties are happy to reconsider their legal obligations. Possibly naive, but there you go…

Reading in the transfer gossip column, Slavi is looking to loan Harvey Elliot for the season, this is someone we could do with, ok it may bring a bitter taste in some supporters mouths, but we did get 7mil and he would want to show just how good he is, could be beneficial all round. AGREE OR NOT.

Watching the Derby match on the Fulham site it is a bit like a lot of championship games we will face. We have a potent attacking force, a reasonable defence and a very good midfield and some promising youngsters. I am not saying we will walk this division as it is tough to win matches but we have very good firepower for the Championship.

When I said Derby I meant Charlton and against them we got the ball forward and made good run in the box more often than we ever did under Parker. That was very encouraging as passing the ball around the back is fine as long as it produces a positive ball. Ream did run and pass moves like he used to do and Anguissa picked up the ball from the defence and ran forward or passed forward. We will create more chances and score a lot more goals.

Well said OP. Parker has gone thank God and showed his true face as the door hit him on his way out. That's it for me. No interest in his future or his team for me. Win the Champions league for all I care. I have had very few enjoyable moments during his tenure. Please don't sell him any players. Parker must take credit for taking a top player like Hector and turning him into a nervous wreck. Manson is another one happy now he has gone. Let's see what becomes of Ohnoma.

Bournemouth are set up a bit differently to Fulham. We are stuck with players like Knockheart who runs up blind allys and not enough goals. We must also solve the supply to Mitrovic and basically get the big guy to score goals. Maybe Muniz and Wilson can bring something different to the table? Scott Parker will find problems a lot easier to solve at Bournemouth. In the meantime, we expect that Marco Silva can show a lot more experience and knowledge to get our lot playing better with a lot more penetration on goal...

How good is Tyrese Francois? Turning just 21 two weeks ago he was the shining light yesterday. I know its early after just one first start, and that a friendly, but he surely is a great prospect. On the other hand Mitro was very poor, and newboy Wilson looked off the pace when he came on. Bryan was an improvement on Robinson, Carvalho carried on with the good progress at the end of last season, and nobody could knock Knock’s workrate, but there’s something slightly headless chicken about him. The team played with notably more ambition than under SP, although conversion of dominant possession into real chances was somewhat disappointing (so no change there).
Replies
I thought the team played with more purpose than under Parker, for me Mitro is a concern, have we seen the best of him ?.So who Dembele could be a diamond in the rough, or Armstrong. Hughes in defence alongside Tarkowski

Bobby Robson failed as a manager at Fulham, suffering relegation; but went onto do great things with Ipswich. It may be the same with Parker; learned lessons and gained invaluable experience. But he has gone, we have a new manager with new signings and hopefully new ideas. No team has a guarantee of success, so all we can do is hope things work out well. Strange league the Championship, certainly a marathon not a sprint and usually one unexpected team comes to the fore. I’m hopeful, but then again every supporter of every team is probably much the same. Looking forward to next Saturday

Bobby Robson sacked and goes on to become a great manager. Still waiting for Bracewell, Sanchez and Kit along with Rennee Felix and tinkerman to do the same and prove us wrong to sack them. Plus Parker got 2 points from his last 10 games and holds our worst home record ever, plus he wasn't sacked but plotted his withdrawal from Fulham for months and demanded compensation. You compare Parker to Robson? You are aware Robson was a true gentleman and a man of great dignity because you have insulted him by putting Parker in the same class.
posted by Chris (Guest) - Sunday 01st August 2021, 5:26 PM

Chris you make some good points, but I can’t imagine Bobby Robson would be insulted by being mentioned alongside Parker; especially if Parker progresses to be a really good manager

Parker will never be as good as Bobby Robson but that will not stop him becoming England manager at sometime in the future. The only non British manager England had rather showed up the succession of ordinary British managers before and after Erickson. That English team that went to the European Championships were a class above any other team and we would have won easily under a decent foreign manager.
posted by The Time Is Now - Monday 02nd August 2021, 2:23 PM

I did not like Capello or Erickson, after they had messed up we went through English managers who were not up to it. Venables looked like he would be successful but that went down the pan as well. Difficult job and I wouldn’t have a clue you would be the next one.

Parker's problem was the cutting edge on goal at Fulham. He will enjoy the different approach at Bournemouth for sure and the evidence is there from their 5-0 win against the dons. Marco Silva will persevere and work with Mitrovic who needs a different kind of service. We need some different types like Muniz who will bring something different to the table and perhaps link up better to Mitrovic. I know it sounds crazy to hark back to the past, but there is a young Ryan Sessegnon still sitting idle at Spurs who does have the intelligence and the capabilities to work the ball up and make things happen. I just hope that we will not be watching the likes of Knockheart running down blind allys because it will be the same ole same old. Silva needs to change that habit which seems to hang around like a bad egg. Scraping 1-0 wins is boring and we need more. We can do more with Wilson when he is up to speed, but we also need more in Muniz and whoever we can get on board. We need to ship out some stale wood now, not mentioning any names...

After watching the game yesterday, I was very pleased to see a couple of youngsters putting on a pretty good showing, but it was difficult to judge the match on the whole, as there were hardly any tackles from either side, and I doubt very much if this will be either sides teams that will start their fixtures next weekend. This was a nice run out for both teams, as were our previous friendly games, and there will no doubt be a couple of additions to our squad before next weekend. Apart from that I am really furious to see these stupid adverts returning to our site, and if they continue, I will not be contributing for any longer, and I will even stop reading the postings, and I will go to our other site which is advert free.

My diet does not include a Bakewell tart these days but with the added ingredients of good players in what good be a memorable Fulham team, we could well break all records with goals scored and assists and all things bright and beautiful. I am going on the assumption that we sign Muniz, and we also keep the likes of Tete, Robinson, and co, etc. 'But' we don't want to stop there, we need to ramp it up to our opponents such as Scott Parkers Bournemouth who are looking decent. Marco Silva seems to have the silver tongue with the gift of the gab and to convince a player in Muniz to sign for Fulham is fantastic. What could be even more awesome, is to go-go get Ryan Sessegnon from the Spurs. Sess will need game-time to keep him sharp. A good offer in a loan spell can reap dividends and bring Sessegnon out of limbo. Where would Sessegnon play on a football pitch? The short answer is anywhere he likes. A King can stroll it. Ryan Sessegnon deserves his Kingly status because he makes things happen, and he scores and assists in goals too. What's not to like in Ryan Sessegnon and 'er' a Bakewell tart...

Its no good saying we should hang on to some of our better players as its not going to happen, but we should strengthen defensively .Future planning is what's required and it appears we have got off to a good start with our 3 latest acquisitions, but do we need to hang on to the likes of Seri ~ Knockhart Cairney ~ Cav ~ Le Marchant ~ Hector, ? mark on Mawson ~ if he could stay fit (doubtfull) a definite asset.

Covid is a blessing for Fulham. Clubs that would normally be prying away our best players don’t have as much money, and are planning for further variants to limit supporters. We are probably going to keep all our best players. I wouldn’t want to be the Khans however. The wage bill is obscene - Hector, Odoi, MLM, Cav, Abou. Plenty of players we ought to sell or loan, but there are no buyers.

I see the complexity of this transfer business. The Brazilians wanted £8m plus 20% of any sell on transfer value. We offered £6m plus 50% sell on transfer value and it is thought they will accept.

Marco Silva is an unknown to me, Portuguese lets hope his is less eratic as his fellow countryman Mr Mourinho. I see that Kongolo, Cairney are injured, question is how long before Alfie Mawson joins them. Let's hope that this Manager gets the team right, we need a decent defence with a solid midfield some nippy forwards. I am not sure Mitrovic has not got too heavy (remember Brian Dear? who played briefly for us) He trained with Jimmy Greaves when he played at West Ham running down the A127 in Essex, I used to see them). The bookies make Fulham FC one of the three favs for promotion, but what good will that do us as we never seem to be able to keep a side together for more than one season and so their is no continuity. We should have bought Joachim Andersen and not let him go to Palace, he would have become our rock with some decent players with him in defence.
Replies
Blame Parker and the drop-down. We were always going to lose a few going down back into this division. Andersen was good but not that good if you examine his pace. It is damage limitations now and maybe we keep the likes of Tete and Anguissa etc. We are still good to go and solid in this division. Hit the ground running and a win against Middlesboro will send a message out to teams around us. Relax kid and stay loose! Our Portuguese maestro will get us up and running...

Some of the comments regarding Silva's interview are astounding...we are in safe hands blah blah blah....this will be the same person who wants Silva sacked after the first game we lose. Calm down everybody he has given an interview that you would expect a highly paid professional to give, no more no less. Frankly, I found him a little boring and there is too much rhetoric and little detail. What is more concerning is the fact we will lose at least four key players before this transfer window ends.

Yes' Marco Silva has a lot to prove and i think a drop-down in league is a way to go to prove it or fall short again. Can we really call him disloyal for leaving Watford to Everton? If we blitz the Championship and we go up with all sorts of records plus points, mid-table prem clubs will take note and the whole merry-go-round could start all over again. Yes' i would be miffed if Sliva moved on to a supposedly bigger club, but i think the club rota dynamics are a little bit different now? Silva is no doubt well aware of his Judas reputation and it would probably take a monster team such as Man Utd calling that could tempt him again this time. Ole Soltzjar is no better than Scott Parker in my opinion and it is only a matter of time before the biggest club in the world sack Soltsjar. Man Utd to go for Marco Silva? Maybe not Man Utd will go for a more high-profile manager. I think we can safely assume that Marco Silva is in it for the long run and he is here to build a dynasty at Fulham for years. I just hope that i have not jinx that idea?

I have just listened and read the MS pre-match interview and I have to say that I was impressed with his answers to some difficult questions, his composure, his optimism for the coming season and assurances that we will strengthen the squad further in the coming weeks.

I also liked his body language - no pulling of ears or scratching of the head the way Parker used to and some other managers do, making it obvious that what was coming next was not strictly true and showing an uncomfortability with the questions.

I for one, am filled with confidence for the coming season and can't wait for next Sunday against Boro but no doubt, if we don't get off to a flying start, there will be some calling for Silva's head on this board immediately after the game.

COYW and Louis, Luis Bo, Luis, Luis Bo, Luis, Louis Bo, Luis Boa Morte! Can't wait to hear that again :0))

I had a look at Marco's interview last night, and I was very impressed with his answers, and the way that he conducted himself, and I hope that it is not misplaced, but I have a lot of confidence that he will make us very competitive in the Championship, and he will lead us back to the top. I see no reason, providing that he wants to keep them, that we should let the likes of Robinson and Reed depart, as they will be very important players this coming season. The one thing that I'm delighted about, is the faith that he is putting in Mitro, and you can see the difference in his attitude already, and he has lost weight and looks super fit and ready.

According to the Shef gossip pages, SLAVI has withdrawn his interest in CAIRNEY possibly due to his permanent injury problems. Usually one has to pay to go into a nursing home / rehabilitation centre, but as a professional footballer who is constantly injury prone you can come to Fulham and get paid millions.

Injury could be a blessing in disguise for Tom Cairney. Sheff utd would want to see a fit Cairney and it could be a jan window to see him in the shop window. At 30 his value stock will go down anyway and we will most likely see him again. Why not, we can accommodate Cairney when he is fit, and i think Marco Silva will slot him in somewhere. Silva will know about past form and there is no better past form than Cairney's goal that helped us to promotion. I remember a memorable through-ball from a proper talent Sessegnon for Cairney to slot home brilliant! We owe Tom Cairney some game-time at the very least and i think that Marco Silva will think so too. Kuyne' give Cairney a chance, we owe it to him, and besides, we have an abundance of good midfield players for cover. With our new additions such as Wilson and Muniz hopefully, we can find one of them that can operate and get the best from Tom Cairney. He was never captain material because he was too quiet, but Cairney has something about him and Marco Silva know about that...

Fulham duo Tom Cairney and Terence Kongolo have been ruled out of the start of the new campaign.

Neither have recovered from injuries suffered last season.

A persistent knee problem has plagued Whites captain Cairney since last summer.

Defender Kongolo also suffered a knee injury, in a tackle involving Wolves’ Adama Traore in early April.

The Netherlands international joined Fulham on a permanent deal a year ago but has played just one full game since.

“We hope he (Kongolo) will be ready soon,” said boss Marco Silva.

“But it’s not an easy thing, and over the next few weeks we have to see how he can be.

“Tom at this moment is not fully fit yet. We are working with him to get him as soon as we can fully fit and in condition to show his quality.”

Silva believes a fully fit Cairney bossing Championship midfields, as he did in 2019-20, would make a huge difference.

The Portuguese said: “He is a key player for us, very important in the last promotion, and of course he is really important for me – a key player for me for sure.

“Now it is up to us to get him back in condition as soon as possible in a really important zone of the pitch.”

Reading his reports on joining Chelsea he made no reference to his time at Fulham, a club that paid 35k per week for a less than average keeper, gratitude no way, good riddance, and lets see if you can now survive on 20k per week.

Let’s hope we can get Knockaert out of the club as soon as possible. He is lazy and lightweight. But he is also on big wages so getting rid of him will be difficult.

To take an educated guess, i would say that Gazzaniga will be our number 1 keeper? Rodak will need the patience of a saint and sit this one out for the season. Some managers will come in with the usual statement about everyone starting from scratch. Silva looks the type to form who his eleven are from the get-go? I could be wrong and he 'er' gives Kamara a start? On second thoughts, 'NO CHANCE...LOL...

I think Rodak will start the season in our goal. With Betts leaving you need another good standard keeper. That doesn’t mean he is going to start but he does need to be of a decent standard if required

We are interested in Muniz from Flamengo. From the YouTube evidence he looks a good striker with great potential. A big risk because he is a young lad who has played only a few games for Flamengo. Would be a loan signing with option to buy, Silva keen on Portuguese speaking Muniz.

We have a strong chance of him signing for us because Marco Silva and Muniz talk the same language and that speaks volumes. What i like about Silva is that he is persistent and he seemed to have jolted the Khans to try again with the Muniz signing. Marco Silva is no yes-man and this can only be good for Fulham and fans. With a bit more luck and persuasion, we can sign Muniz who is only 20 and who just might go on to be a sensation and go on to be a Fulham legend? Remember the last Brazilian legend? 'Er' Neymar'? Seri is our record signing and one of the worse signings we have ever made. Please take what you get for him as if we paid £25m he is probably worth £4m at best, but £4m would buy a better player than him. I hope TK has learnt from that disaster if he was not the owners son he would be sacked.

I have to agree that Seri is not one of our best signings but there have been worse. One Steve Marlet at £12m (at least £36m in today's money) springs to mind for example and what about Mitroglu?

When a player is having a medical he is discussing terms with Fulham and also having a medical. The fact that Grimes has not signed indicates terms were not agreed. As he is at present Club captain he may expect the same position at Fulham and we probably cannot agree to that. It is seemingly little things like that that transfer fail on.

Latest report ‘According to documents filed with Companies House at the end of last month, Fulham chairman Shahid Khan has written off £151m of loans from his Cougar HoldCo by converting them into shares. This continues a pattern from the start of Khan’s ownership of the football club back in the summer of 2013’. That’s the sort of commitment I’d like to see. Can you see either the Man U or Liverpool owners doling this? Instead they tend to do the opposite by taking money out of their clubs.

Look around at some other clubs’ owners and see what they have done to a lot bigger clubs than ours eg Man Utd and Liverpool’s previous owners. West Ham and Newcastle’s fans would swop. The owners of this club have put millions into Fulham and have made mistakes admittedly; but at least they give the club stability and I honestly believe their choice of the latest manager is spot on. The latest acquisitions don’t seem too bad either. I think the supporters of Bury or Swindon would give their right arms for our owners, so stop all the bloody whinging and whining and get behind the team, manager and owners

Jegs, I don't often agree with your comments, but I am right behind you with this one. If our real fans could only sit down, pour out a glass of wine, and think seriously about our clubs owner's and just realize how lucky we are to have them. Yes, of course they have made some mistakes, some bigger than others, but on reflection, they were doing their very best for our club at the time, and hindsight is a wonderful thing, and the experience will not in their minds be forgotten. I have quite a strong feeling that should we return to the Premier League sometime soon, they will not make the same mistakes again, and may I add, that although it is early days, I think that appointing Marco Silva(How did they find him)will be a master stroke.

Khan is the 100% owner so it makes no commercial difference to him if he is owed cash or holds shares. The company pays him a dividend on shares. He controls the process. He would pay tax on a dividend, but most likely his exit is sale at sometime. Converting debt into shares helps with fair play. I guess that’s why he has done it. He is a clever guy for sure.

The playoffs last season were virtually impossible for the promoted team with so little time to put a team together. People complained about all the loan players but that was their only choice. Every time we tried to sign a player there were probably at least a dozen other teams around the World after the same player, so on average we signed one player for every twelfth player we made a bid for. That takes a lot of time or require a lot of staff we cannot afford. Who can judge in these circumstances how well the HR department did. A better manager may have kept us up as in my view that team was no worse than many other teams in the PL.

Obviously the players are key, and I think Fulham have a pretty decent squad. It was widely mooted that Fulham had the best squad in the Championship last time we were here yet we scraped through via the playoffs. Was that down to Parker? I think it was. I know managers can’t score goals or make saves, but look what Sean Dyche and Chris Wilder get out of their teams. I think Parker had a strong enough team to have stayed in the Premiership, but his management skills weren’t good enough. It may be that he is successful at B’nmouth because he has learned from his mistakes

The last minute transfers did us no good at all. This never allowed the team to get used to each other and the style of play. Andersen is clearly not as good as his agent thinks he is. Andersen was high up in the shop window until he showed his serious lack of pace in tracking back the more pacier forwards. I pointed this out towards the end games to our prem season. In these days of high tech and good observation, the top clubs would have worked out the details on Andersen. I like Andersen and he suited us in the way we play football even with his lack of pace. We gave Hector a contract but i would have preferred Andersen who should cost no more than the fee for Wilson. Andersen to sign for Palace is a gamble because Roy Hodgeson is no longer there and i think Zaha will move on soon leaving Palace in a delicate state. Not saying they are a one-man team, but Zaha is the main man at Palace and they are more in the drop zone than higher up the table which means, it is only a matter of time when the inevitable will happen. Ariola might find himself in no-mans-land if he doesn't get his big move also, and it is a pity that our new management didn't get a moment to talk to both these guys who i think would guarantee us top 3 at the very least? We should still cake-walk this division though in my oopinion...

Matt Grimes to add to Wilson and Gazzaniga has got me excited.

It is good to see us acting early in the transfer market and I am pleased with the signings (including Matt Grimes if he passes his medical today) but I can't help thinking; are we collecting mid-fielders again? Does this signal that Cairney and Reed are on their way out? I hope not! Maybe Anguissa is off or out on loan again? Would be nice to see a striker or two through the gates before the season begins in earnest though. COYW!

Agree with you MT regarding the striker situation, also we must be thinking about who wants to leave or who Silva doesn’t rate. Personally I would love to keep Reed, Frank and Cairney, but as you mentioned we seem to be collecting midfielders. I am unsure about centre backs and maybe we can get one. It is good that we are doing our business early for once though and not late panic buying.COYW.

Wilson very much an attacking midfielder coming 89th out of 569 in goals and 8th in assists last season and more importantly considering our previous form 7 out of 9 penalties. Also I reckon could be a better captain. Pretty sure I saw ak47 playing against Southhampton....and Mitro.

He didn't fit into Parker's style of play, and yet i still think he should have been assessed under new management. Johansen and Josh Onomah would have linked up superbly together through the midfield. QPR fans are convinced that they are ahead of Fulham for promotion now? They are buzzing about Stefan Johansen...

What is it about when you get to your 50's and above with prostate cancer? I had 37 bouts of radiotherapy for it nearly 3 years ago now. All recovered now and psa is low, but regular checks every year. That looks like a pretty strong line up, and I agree that Tete, for Odio is a must. However, when watching Marco's interview after yesterday's game at Southampton, he did say that there would be some more additions to our squad, so who knows at this stage, what our first line upmwill be. So today we signed two additions to our squad, although I am slightly worried that Rodak is going to play 2nd fiddle again, which is a real shame. What really pleased me, was Wilson saying that two of the reasons for signing for us, was the ambition of our club, and the impression that was made to him by Marco Silva. With our run out with Southampton seeming quite impressive, and as Mawson played, that nonsense about him being out for three months being kicked into touch, and with a number of first teamers still missing, all in the garden seems Rosie at present. Early days I know but at least we are getting some pre-season friendlies in this time, giving our players time to gel. Times they are a changing. COYW

Just watched the highlights of the game. Fabri was in goal and looked really good. Assume he is in the way out with the signing of gazzaniga though. Looked like we were going to sign gazzaniga last season before Areola came in. Can’t help but think it might be a very astute signing. He did very well In loris’ absence for Spurs and could be a very solid number one, especially in the championship. As good as rodak is, unfortunately he is not premier league quality and gazzaniga may well be.

We need competition in all areas especially the goalkeeper. I liked Bettonelli but we cannot be too sentimental about players. Bettonelli was just not good enough and the proof of the pudding was his stint at Middlesboro. I like Rodak even more than Bettonelli but will he be good enough at prem level? This new goalkeeper will have plenty of prem experience which we will need if we get promoted first time of asking. I don't want to big him up too quick but Marco Silva looks to be making some good moves...

Hate to say it' but those Brentford brains are doing all they can to prove us wrong first time of asking in the prem. Some astute signings, especially the guy from Celtic will help their cause. We will look like dunces if they survive their first season in the prem. We can and we should do a whole lot better this time around. Fulham the oldest club in England? We really need to get our act together now...

You have to have at least three decent keepers as it is a position that only a keeper can field adequately. If you try risking only having two keepers they will both get injured at the same time. Which is the best of the three we have is up to the manager not a decision based on fans favourites.

Can’t understand these kids going at the earliest opportunity. They will get invaluable playing time in the first team at Fulham. They go to the big clubs to languish in the under 23s etc. No guarantee they will break into the first teams, I think most won’t. I accept they don’t owe the club loyalty, because let’s be honest if they weren’t that good they would have been let go without too much concern

The younger you are the more likely your are to listen to your agent when he waves huge levels of money at your. When you get older other things come into consideration. I am sure Mitro has been offered big bucks elsewhere but he and his family are settled in London, he loves Fulham and is earning enough money to set them up for life.
