I am not talking metaphorically after the Leicester win. I am literally talking about the team. It seems Parker or Khan's number one criteria for new players is their height. Yes, a massive let down by dwarf Lookman, only 1.75m but we brought in Tosin at 1.96m, Aerola 1.95m, Cheek 1.91m, Anderson 1.9m and Robinson 1.83m. This compares to the likes of Ream, Odoi, Bryan and Kebano - averaging 1.75m. Fulham FC are now walking TALL!!
Replies
I wonder how tall Anguissa is? He must be in the tallish bracket? What a player he is, a running monster of a train and unstoppable. Fulham are awesome!!!!!!

...To stop focusing on the Leicester game. Yes it was well played, yes it was a great win but let's hope the players aren't still patting themselves on the back or we're in trouble!

How many eulogies can we come up with for winning one away game - it wasn't Juventus in 2010 it was Leicester and we won a league game away from home - let's move on now ;0)

LOL :0)) I was over the moon with the win and the three points as well as the way we played but come on, how many ways are we going to stir the broth? It's not as if it's different people coming up with new ways to say the same thing - it's the same people saying the same thing lol.

We won a football match, a difficult away football match but it was just that and we are still 4th from bottom with one from below and three from above so as much as I was very happy for a 24 hours or so it is now Wednesday and it would be nice to stop seeing the same old posts after winning one league game ;0))).

Just saying :0)))))

I was just in the middle of lighting my candle on my cupcake and watch the replay action on our greatest win against a very good Leicester team. Come on guys' this was an awesome result and it deserves a week's celebration with wine, song, and much merriment and mirth and a skinnydip in the Thames for good measure. Now there is a void, and only a win against Man City can thrill me once again if only temporary. COME ON FULHAM!!!!!

Give Hope To Those Who Lack It There is always something to look forward to, you can do things better and cultivate friendship. You must not look for fault in others, find pleasure in what they do well. We are all good a heart if the right buttons are pushed. We can all find examples of goodness ignored by the papers In these difficult times someone else is worse off than you, rather than sympathy provide help if you can. Give other hope they may have forgotten exists. Charity is not giving and forgetting it must be more. Poverty is frequently more a lack of comprehension, than a lack of money if you don’t how to get work or benefit, you will not get it no matter how much is offered. Providing school dinners in school holidays it practical, And will help those who think they are forgotten. Restoring hope to those without it is a good deed.

Leicester A, M City A, Liverpool H. I would have been happy with 1 or 2 points, from these games. 3 big points from Leicester what a start. Any points from the next 2 is a bonus, with Brighton, Newcastle & Southampton to follow I am feeling mildly optimistic.....Mitro will be back on fire soon JMO.

Three players stand out for me and could well be the shortlist for our player of the season. Lookman. Anguissa and Aerola. Will be interesting to see how they perform against top top Liverpool and City players. I think we can squeeze one more point from the two games.

Agree with your list, but feel Andersen should be added to it. His leadership and defending ability are first class - it's no coincidence that the defence has tightened up considerably since his debut.

There is no doubt that this maybe the best time to play Liverpool Prima Donna's and their loopy Manger. They have lost senior players injured for long periods and I do wish for their speedy recovery, but not just yet. The only clouds onn the horizon are Jota (who Fulham once aspire to sign) and of course Salah who are firing in all areas. Head up and being quick off the mark to counter attack is our only reposte. Perhaps Mr Parker has come to the same conclusion about Mitrovice. Good in the Championship, but not so clinical in the Premiership. Which is why I was suggesting earlier in the season we use him as a Defender/Sweeper = as Dion Dublin used to do. After Leicester our lads should be up for it. The clue to winning is not to give early goals away and keep your heads until half time.
Replies
i think luck is on our side on the scheduling. Leicester (going through a bad patch after a great start and hence we took advantage and won), Man City (still stuck in 2nd gear, hopefully for one more game) and Liverpool (our defence is comparable and without Allison, we have a better keeper)! We should also have taken advantage of Everton and if it wasn't for a silly goal in 2mins, the result could be very different. If we can stay solid at the back, anythign can happen in the next couple of games.

I believe the honours system works very well as it depends in the main on nominations by ordinary people. It has been a very democratic system for a long time now.

Make no mistake, this Leicester team is ranked higher than the team that won the league so we ain't too shabby ourselves. Some people will still say, 'let's not get carried away', but i beg to differ. This Fulham team is a better-balanced team than the one 2 years ago in my opinion. The manner of our defeats tells me that if we cut out all the stupid goals, we are a really good team, even with all the crab football. Leicester, West Ham, Everton, all play out from the back but they don't look as stylish as we do. Fulham are guilty of over-playing it and not finishing off moves which is criminal. It doesn't take a genius to work out the ratio of missed penalties and silly goals would have put us a lot further up the table. We all think that Tony Khan delivered duds again? Are we sure about that???

I don't think the team played against Leicester has been hiding! The difference is we didn't make silly mistakes. You can see some of the quality in the past games but because we been chasing the game and losing our game plan even before everyone has the chance to kick the ball, it is so much more difficult.

First time post on here. Just looking at our last season in the Premier League at the same point we had 5 points and -17 goal difference and had just lost 3-0 at home to Bournemouth. Definitely seem a better team this time round and improving away from home. Seems like we could do with adopting our away tactics at home instead of going toe to toe with teams just because we're at home. It might not be so good to watch but grinding out results at home might help build confidence rather than conceding 2/3/4 goals every time. I think Leicester are better away this season as they play counter attacking football, but at home not doing so well, and I think this suited us last night as they sat off us a bit.

Just a thought, but what about dropping roly poly MITRO until he loses some weight and gets up to speed,as a replacement try CAIRNEY in the c/F role for a couple of games, surly could not do worse.
posted by KUNYE (Guest) - Tuesday 01st December 2020, 4:53 PM

Mitro seems incapable of running, closing down for any period of time. Even last night when he came on he wasn't closing down, he was just an out ball. I thought Kamara would have been a better option for the last few minutes and probably would have scored the breakaway goal in injury time with his pace. Bobby D-Reid has really stepped up recently, can't see any reason to drop him for Mitro
posted by Toby N - Tuesday 01st December 2020, 4:58 PM

I think i have worked the maths out concerning Mitrovic. The simple equation is that Mitrovic is off his mojo because of 2 internationals. International breaks are good for Serbia, but unfortunately not Mitro and Fulham. The big man will be firing on all cylinders asap, just wait and see. I have criticized Mitrovic for his lack of pace but he has his uses. Take note Parker is giving him 5 minutes here and there, mitro will fire soon...

Against Man City I’d be tempted to play Kamara as a lone striker with his pace as he’s more of a striker and a bit more physical than Cav, but he tends to do better as an impact sub.
posted by Toby N - Tuesday 01st December 2020, 5:54 PM

I just think that we have missed a trick here with Kamara. Play him in a more central position instead of out on the wing where he is not much use. Playin g him as an impact sub has its drawbacks because Kamara is under obvious instructions to drop back into defense which can be lung-busting to sprint forward again. I was impressed with him when featured in a game against QPR? I think he Mitro was injured or banned? Kamara bagged 2 goals and motm. This squad is not just about Kamara, it has more potential than we think. Scott Parker is working out the puzzles slowly but surely...

No. No. And No. No Kamara. He played well in the Championship final, but that’s it. I have yet to see him perform decently in 2 consecutive PL games. And his childish antics don’t help. Just bc we signed him when we never ever should have doesn’t mean we need to find him a role. He does not cut it. Barely did so a level lower.
posted by Marco (Guest) - Tuesday 01st December 2020, 7:28 PM

You’re loyal Owen that’s the truth. Wrong but loyal. I really can’t see any place for Kamara in the Fulham setup. Occasional sub., possibly, he wasn’t good enough for the Championship. If he score 10 goals, or even 5 this season maybe I’ll ask you for a Loyalty Card to the Kamara Fan Club.

There were so many moments last night where our team showed themselves to be brave. Scott would have known that he would be lambasted if we lost for dropping mitro and cairny. You saw it here before kickoff everyone piling in on him for dropping them before a ball was kicked. To play bdr and cav was equally brave and opening himself up for more criticism but he knew what he was doing and backed his own plan. Then for cav to step forward to take the penalty after himself missing the last one, knowing we’ve become a punchline when it comes penalties was so bold and brave. It doesn’t matter if at the start of the season you didn’t want scott because he is our manager and we can’t repeat the mistake of having three managers in a season for a third time. So please stop picking holes and get behind the team and manager. If we stay up it’ll be an excellent achievement considering how little time there were between the end of last season and the start of this.

Nice to read plenty of cheerful comments after our excellent win over Leicester. Next up away to a side that on its day can beat most teams in Europe, so should we get a good hiding let’s remember if we play as we did last night for the rest of the season we are in with a real chance of staying up, which would be a massive achievement!

Who knows what’s going on with mitro. We don’t know parker hasn’t tried to get him to lose weight. My guess is because there wasn’t a back up to share minutes with him last year, we ran him into the ground by the time of the playoffs and didn’t have much summer to recover. It’s no reason to turn on parker and want him sack surely...

Before yesterday's game I slated Scott Parker for what was in my opinion, the wrong team selection. I now have a face covered in egg, as obviously Mr Parker has more football and tactical knowledge than I have, and in future, whether we win lose or draw, I will certainly not be throwing any criticism at Scott and I will now bow to his superior knowledge. Mitro does worry me a bit as his confidence looks really shot at present, but like all good strikers he will be back, and he has our thanks in the bank in spades.

The tactics were spot on for this game . Is this down to the genius of Parker or can it be argued that if he is a tactical genius why has he not shown it in the previous nine games . One of the most noticeable things last night was the lack of tippy tappy side to side and backwards football that has been driving us all mad . Has Parker changed his ideas or does he realise we now have players who are capable of playing a more expansive game . Either way I welcome what we saw
Replies
I agree the less of the tippy-tappy play. With the players FFC have got tippy-tappy does not allow them to break through the defences of the top teams in the Premiership without being snuffed out. To me playing like we did last night close fast defending then a quick counter attack a bit like at speed at a back peddling defence seemed to work for us last night.. Crystal Palace seems to use that tactical option and they get results.. It was great to see both Lookman and Cavaleiro redeem themselves with pride... Well Done FFC and I will also say well done Scott Parker and his Staff on the great result and game against Leicester
posted by Rob Clark (Guest) - Tuesday 01st December 2020, 12:57 PM

Not having Ream and Cairney in the team cut out a lot of the tippy-trappy stuff. The other factor is our four midfielders are good at finding space and the wingers have good pace. That aligned to a solid defence is a winning combination.

I mentioned last week one of the biggest problems we had was how quickly we regrouped and regain the shape once we lose the ball. We did that to perfection last night and credit to DecoReid, who probably san 10km last night as he was covering two ends of the pitch. If we can maintain that we will lose less goals and silly goals.

Scott really did not look as happy as he should after that great tactical masterstroke of a win. Could it be some of the senior players said to him all this passing around the back is getting us in trouble, we have fast players on the wings and players in the middle who find space well why do we not get the ball to them as quickly as possible and see where that takes us.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch our other win against WBA, but except for the Everton and Palace games there has been a trend of defending tightly and countering against the likes of Sheffield, Wolves, West Ham... And it probably auits us better than those home games against mid- high-table teams where we think we need to be the second coming of Pep’s Barça team. Let’s stick to basics, defend in an organized manner and get a goal in one of our 2-4 chances that we will get on the break... I don’t feel like there was a completely different approach in y’day’s game, except for the back 5 but I might have missed this in previous games...

The team selection and first half was a tactical masterclass, Aina and Bobby Reid tracking and nullifying Maddison brilliantly, perfectly set up for counterattack. Parker saw that TC and Mitro wouldn't have worked in this one -- against the bottom 10, when we're the team in possession, sure, but we needed speed. It was beautiful to see him force Brendan Rogers to adjust, rather than us starting slow and falling behind and having to adjust at halftime. Kudos to the entire squad, but especially Anguissa. Seri, Le Marchand, Fabri and others flopped - but TK's investment from two seasons ago is paying off now.

I agree it was good tactics that were employed for a great and historic win BUT I am not convinced this "masterplan" was all down to Parker anymore than the plan against Brentford at Wembley.

It is clear that Parker takes a lot of advice and puts a lot of credence behind information from the other coaches. That's fine because we all listen and learn from our teams every day but I'd be interested in knowing how good/bad a coach Scotty really is.

I truly hope that it was his own plan because as much as I am still very much on the fence with Parker, I don't want to see the squad disrupted by changes in management again.

I reserve further judgement until after the next two games which, none of us except the super optimistic, expect to get anything from....

F@#k me. Last week you lot wanted him strung up. This week, one win later and you are all lining up to give him a blow job. The same for Cav, the Decorator and Uncle Tom Cobbley an all. What a joke bunch of supporters you are.

Very wind driven most of the supporters but bringing in a little reality, two win and one draw after more than a quarter of the season gone would normally leave us close to the bottom. We are very lucky that on present form there are three teams worse than us. The counter to that is of course is that if we could play the way we did last night for all our remaining games we would finish midtable, that of course is unlikely and we will probably finish about 16th.

What is the matter with you guys: “sitting on the fence?” It was an incredibly strong performance. SP showed leadership: by benching his two captains; his tactics were spot on; the CB are now bedded in and the defence had its best game of the season. SP has often prepared tactics for specific games but individual players have made mistakes and the game lost. In the Leicester game we didn’t concede in the first 15 minutes, and we scored the penalty=3 points. When Fulham play well they play very attractive football. Scotty’s job this year is to keep us up-not to get us a European spot. He is an extremely good coach. He is making a squad than can work as a team. He is passionate and gritty. Time to get off the fence and show some support for a man who is doing a good job. COYW

We will obviously play a second string team that will likely replicate our Championship side and give game time to those outside the PL 25 man squad in order to concentrate on staving off relegation so I'd be very surprised if that were the case even if we beat Rangers...

There is no reason to play a reserve team as there is a week before the next game, this is not the League cup. Other than to give the substitutes a run out I cannot see why the first team does not play in cup. But you are of course right so what about this team. Scott Parker was delighted with Fulham’s execution of their gameplan on Monday evening. Victory for Leicester City would have seen them go joint top of the Premier League, but a hard working display by every member of the Whites team saw us depart the King Power with a 2-1 victory. Certain tactical tweaks were evident during the match, particularly Bobby De Cordova-Reid acting as a right wing-back – to tremendous effect – when his side were out of possession. “We worked on it all week,” Parker said. “Tracking back down on one side with Bobby Reid, who I thought sacrificed a lot of his game tonight to do that job, and get into a five [at the back] and being solid. “It was a real disciplined performance. The first goal probably epitomises the gameplan in terms of soaking it up a little bit and being disciplined, then with the players on the pitch – Ruben, Ade, Cavaleiro – trying to hit them on the break. Joachim Andersen and Scott Parker celebrate at full-time “The first goal did that. Even the second goal, to get up the pitch like we did, and win the penalty, so I’m pleased overall with that. “I’m pleased with the team. We’re in a world where it’s win or lose for all of us, and at the end of the day that’s the big picture. “Our performances over the last six or seven games have been pretty good, but you maybe lose sight of that sometimes, so there was relief and a real pride in the team. “I’ve spoken to the team about not letting defeats really cripple us. You don’t come to Leicester away [and win] if you’re a team that lacks belief. “This is a team that’s got pure belief, and this was a massive win for us, a second win now of the season, and something we can use to push forward.” Fulham’s last away game ended with Ademola Lookman missing a penalty. He bounced back with a brilliantly taken finish against the Foxes, and when asked if that is a mark of his character, Parker replied: “100 per cent. Scott Parker embraces Ademola Lookman “He came under a lot of stick three weeks ago for the penalty, and rightly so, like I said at the time, you have to take your medicine for that. “But even with Cavaleiro tonight, last week he slips at the penalty, and I’m not on Instagram or Twitter but I can only imagine what’s been said, the jokes or the laugher at one’s expense was probably there for everyone to see, and Cav would’ve seen as well no doubt. “We’ve practised penalties all week, I asked him yesterday if he’s ready to take one tomorrow. He looked me dead in the eye and said, ‘yeah, I’m ready.’ “The courage, the bravery after a slip, to step up there, they’re the things that we need. They’re the things that will determine what these players will become, how good they’ll become, and us as a team, what we’ll become. “They’re the little moments that you need. Ade’s performance tonight earned the right to score his goal. Cav putting his hand up, putting himself on offer to again be scrutinised.” The Club had been rocked on Sunday night by news of Papa Bouba Diop’s untimely passing, and so Lookman’s opener was especially poignant when he celebrated by raising aloft a Senegal jersey with The Wardrobe’s 19 on the back. “This was something which the boys planned tonight, the staff planned, to show our respects,” Parker explained. “I didn’t know Papa personally, but everyone I speak to at the football club – he was here for three years – there’s nothing but warm words about the man. “Ade showed his respect by scoring tonight and putting up the shirt, so that was pleasing. For someone to lose their life at such a tender, young age is tragic, and [the gesture] goes only a little way to the family. “I understand the pain they’re going through, but to show our respect to his memory, that’s what he players decided to do.”

Really nice that you posted Scott Parkers afters T-t-is-now. I also think that he is less tongue-tied and he seems to be getting through to players his points of view and they understand him a lot more. A really vocal Parker leading his lines on the pitch, and interviews are good! I still say that we have a good enough team to survive and a bit more to come in this division. It is a shame that some fans don't think so. We still need a more pacier target man in January. Mitrovic is still important for me, he will click again. The 2 international breaks didn't do him or Fulham any favors, this is the dynamics of football. Scott Parker is rightly resting Mitrovic. Parker is very shrewd and is using his brain concerning Mitro. He will fire again in the big games to come. I just wish he would bring out the guns again, we need the big celebrations...

1) change of tactics suited the game, defend deep with five across the back and two holding midfielders and counter with three quick players that’s why no place for Mitro 2) no tippy tappy at the back big positive 3) closing down better but still not doing it in packs 4) Anguissa and Reed looked superb as a partnership in the centre 5) where does Mitro fit into this system will he only play home games.....looks overweight again 6) set plays need improvement but we have been saying this for a long time 7) Areola looks a fine keeper 8) we need a strong captain on the pitch 9) we need consistency in performance now this cannot prove to be a one off performance

We need to build from this and maybe, just maybe, we might just pick up another unexpected point from the next two games.

Like most this came as a shock. Firstly, congratulations to Parker for changing his tactics, not before time, by playing higher up the field, employing a 5 5 defence at times and being more direct in our approach. We rode our luck in the first 15 minutes but then look comfortable. For once the team put in a shift, worked for each other and wanted to fight for a result. What a joy to see our players harrying and getting in the face of the Leicester players. As Jones would say "they don't like it up them". Provided the team are prepared to turn in similar performances then there may well be hope for us although, as we are all aware " one swallow does not make a pint".

All I seem to read is extremely negative comments about my club/manager. Parker’s done an amazing job taking over a relegated team getting us back up at 1st attempt and without a decent break build a new team to cope in the toughest league in the world and you assumed that if we let in an early goal and got hammered he should be sacked, that’s how I read it . Not to say he’s made mistakes or lacks experience but give him a chance . How many games left?

Could the players who have missed three penalties cost us a more comfortable place in the league. That is not the managers fault. Telling the players they are not good enough to be anything but a struggling team not a good tactic as well. They have all been trying to prove the manager wrong since he said it and he repeated it tonight. If we can get any points out of the next two games that would be real brilliance.

Killing it. Tactical masterclass so far by Scottie. Not that I am his biggest fan but every full moon or so he gets it right. Got a bit lucky in the first 15mins when Fofana misses a sitter but after that great stuff. High pressing when required (not always), then compact defending (a rare sight so far this season), with a line of 5 on D (Bobby as the right-back, Aina towards the middle, and fast counterattacks. Our guys are chasing Leicester players as if their life depended on it. Also interesting how at times we shift the whole play towards our right side (like literally Robinson is in the spot of a CM) to confuse them and not let exploit our right flank. I barely could watch the pen, and Cav looked scared, too, tbh. So much for the whole lineup criticism. We are Fulham, fighting for survival, so we cannot trot out Cairney and Micro in every game it seems, if the former is not greatly suited to counter-attack style of play and the latter is neither fast nor mobile enough for pressing (and I love both fellas but hey, you gotta stat realistic). Now let’s hold’em off another 45 minutes!! Come on Fulham

...No Mitro, no Cairney and Cav in the starting 11. Unbelievable!!

I have always kept a level head about Parker, but now I am doubting my judgement. How on earth can Cav get in the starting 11? Cairney has been our best player this season!

I don’t think there is one fan who would want Cav in the team , but Parker persists with him after over a season of poor performances

Not many sides fancy their chances at Leicester, so won’t be surprised if its two or three nil ! Nice to be proved wrong though !

Parker would not play cheek and Cairney together but surely we’d better to play Kabano than Cav. Or play Reid on the right and bring in Mitro. Cav is a lazy version of knockhart - no final pass and cannot score.

What an awful eulogy Will; couldn't you think of anything nicer to say. He was colossal for Fulham during his time with us in both attack and defence and it's a shame we don't have anyone with his presence in the team (or squad) now. 42 years of age is a terrible waste and my thoughts are with his family....

so sad. Huge character and massive presence on the pitch and off it. Who could forget the joy he brought us all when he hit the unstoppable equaliser at the cottage against chelsea form 30 yards. i can still see it start curling from just outside Chech's right post, never got over a foot off the ground and hit the net without bouncing. We loved the wardrobe xx

Thank you very much for ask The Arizonan, I am very slowly getting over my darling wife's passing, but I must admit that I am finding it very tough, especially with the approaching Christmas period, which was a time that we did so much together. I'm sure that there are many others in my situation this year, who will find it difficult to put things behind them. What we all need now is for our club to do a lot better to cheer us up, and getting something at a Leicester this evening would be a good start, although like over the next three matches, it might just be cases of keeping the scores down, and by playing well against these top teams. For all of those of our fans that wanted Chris Houghton as our manager, they might just be reflecting now on how lucky we are to have dodged the bullet, by not getting him. Brighton fans they say were pleased to see the back of him, and maybe they were right after all.

Problem with Knockers is that he was a high energy player. He used to run and run like his life depended on it. He is ageing, so is slowing down and cannot play 90 minutes of high energy as he did for Hove.

My worst signings were Jimmy Jinks and Chennel, a completely useless striker and right back, Chenell was the worst right back I have ever seen. My best signings are Arthur Rowley, Alan Clarke and Graham Legget, There are many others in both the best and worst categories, so it's something that it is impossible to agree on.

Willl, thanks for that. My memory is clearly playing tricks on me, my only recollection of BD is of an overweight and fairly immobile player, but he must have had good positional sense. He was prolific for West Ham but the feeling was that he was past his best when he came to us. FL, on the other hand was like a whirling dervish, but couldn't hit a barn door.

Barring a complete change around of form, even in NovemberI can't see anything to stop the bottom three in the table, being Sheffield United, WBA and Burnley, with a possibility of Crystal Palace of being the other team involved in the scrap. We will be safely out of the drop zone by January, mark my words, as we have a far better squad than most of the teams in the bottom half of the table.
posted by Brian Jarvis (Guest) - Saturday 28th November 2020, 9:35 PM

Palace will run away. We are in a mini league with WB, Burnley and Sheffield United. Hopefully Brighton will be dragged into this dogfight too. We are better than both WB and Sheffield United.

In these so-called unwinnable games, we need to scrap for points just like Brighton did against Liverpool. Brighton are thereabouts around us, and they are in our pool of possible results to go get. Brighton have shown that it is possible to pick up the odd scrap for points and so can we Fulham. Maybe the resting of certain players in the Liverpool squad and shuffling around the adjusted squad has tipped the balance in Klopp's team? Whatever the dynamics of these top teams what play in the Champions and Europa league, we must look to steal points and take advantage of possible disruptions and fatigue in teams that play these extra games. Scott Parker must look at every angle and weakness exposed in any prem team that has major players missing in various positions also. I also think that the likes of Neskins Kebano could be potent and useful fresh from the bench?
