Max Kilman man of the match for Wolves against Leeds tonight started out at the Fulham Academy, looks a good player,we could certainly do with him now.
Replies
Yes, Max looked good. It begs the question how a talent like him slipped through our academy system. Matt O'Reilly is another with natural talent and has gone( don't know if he's been signed by another club), but with better handling and career development, should have been TC's understudy.

Reviewing our performances to date, analysing the collective results of those we have played, Arsenal apart, I don’t think we’re in too bad a place. Close results with Wolves and Sheffield and a spirited come back against Leeds all point to the fact that there isn’t a great gape in quality, albeit I acknowledge they are currently playing better football than us. Acquisitions , Lookman, Tete, Lemina, Robinson are showing great possibilities. Anquissa is class and Areola is a quality goalkeeper. If Cheek plays to his potential and Andersen is as good as they say, we’ve got a good team. No Ream, no Cavaliero, no Bobby DR, no Hector, Harrison back and we have all the potential to really make a fist of it. I’m feeling, hopefully Not misguidedly, quite confident. Think of us as the Tortoise and Leeds as the Hare. I think we will only improve, not sure Leeds will stay the distance. That’s a big call:))
Replies
Watching Leeds playing against Wolves it now looks like their bubble has burst, and they will be crashing down to earth very soon. Their only two wins have been against us and Sheffield United and they were extremely lucky in both cases. In my opinion, wherever they finish in the table in the end, it will be below us, as we will improve in leaps and bounds, and Leeds have reached their peak already. COYW

After tonight's 0-0 draw between WBA and Burnley, we are back at the bottom of the table again, which although disappointing, that draw was the best result for us. What a pity we didn't get all 3 points yesterday, which is even more annoying now. However, providing we can pick up 4 points or more in the next two matches, we should at least be out of the relegation zone. I am reasonably confident now that we will have a fairly good season, without tearing up any trees, so a bottom half finish, but in a safe spot come May.

Will be interesting to see how he fares. as well as Mawson and Knockhaert. If they all return to top form, you have to ask questions of Parker and the Fulham coaches. Also interesting to see what Houghton can do with Knocky again as many of us thought he might be on his way just before new year.

You have to accept the teams we play have good managers and good players and consequently they will attack us and we will have to defend functionally. No kicking the ball forward aimlessly, if you cannot make a pass kick it into touch. Mark properly at all dead ball situations. If possible stop crosses and passes into the box. We defended yesterday reasonably well but some of Ream's clearances would have been taken more advantages of by better teams than Sheffield United. We showed in the second half we now have more pace in the team and can break quickly and with Cairney further up the pitch he will not slow it down. Against the top teams who will dominate the ball we must be able to break quickly and be ruthless in our finishing. The home an away difference has now been almost eliminated to the tactics we use must be based on our strengths and the oppositions weaknesses. If we can do all these thing almost perfectly every game we will have a season well beyond anyone's expectation.

There were some real positives. Nice to see an excellent goal, shame about the unnecesary kick by Mitrovic which denied us of all three points and worse when you consider no professional footballer should miss scoring from the penalty spot should they? Especially with no baying crowd winding them up! Fulham have the same problem as Derby Country. We're becoming a one man (Mitovic) team and that ain't good. Now we have some other players scoring, why not drop him? We play better without him. Agree?
Replies
“Now we have some other players scoring....” who exactly? Do let us know. Once again poor recruitment by Tony. No back up for Mitro, no number 10 to play off his shoulder. Players going wide, maybe, upfront and personal? I think not.

But if you try sometimes you might get what you need...I think the R STONES lyric sums up FFC.. They tried & got a fair result & all we need is to stay in the prem very possible in my view... And for all the Mitro knockers, think again !!! Just my opinon...Cairney,Ream,Knockaert & Cavaleiro plus 1 or 2 others need a new home in the next window...If Lookman carries on in same vein I hope we can hang on to him.
Replies
I agree with Ream and Knockaert (although Knockhaert is at Forest until at least January in any case) but don't get the Cairney knockers. He should not be captain in my opinion but I'm surprised some people can't see what a gifted player he is and how much of our offensive play goes through him. He is the glue in our team and respected by players, Head Coach, coaching staff and Owner alike who all but one know a little more than us about football methinks. I think some should get of his back and watch him for 90 minutes instead of 30 seconds on MOTD....

It has been mentioned on another site...... why did the referee walk along the penalty area warning all the Sheffield players not to encroach while Mitrovic was waiting to take the penalty .The time taken must have added to the anxiety . Professional players know the rules and if they had encroached we are allowed to retake the spot kick , it’s in the rules of the game . But when they had a penalty the ref did not spend time walking the area warning our players . Should this be questioned by Fulham ?

And as Mitro took it a SU player did encroach .....VAR should of ordered a re-take

Result apart, I thought that we looked much more cohesive as a team yesterday and defended well at times. Remember the goal keeper is part of the defence so his saves at critical moments were decisive and goalkeepers are there for a reason. As with many people, I think the weak link is Cav but I don't think he can play with wing backs and is more suited to a 4-4-2 formation so should be kept for when we play like that. The new CB from City (I won't embarrass myself by spelling his name incorrectly) looked sound and cool on the ball but continually made up for mistakes by Anguissa's wayward passing and Ream's mistakes so once paired up with Andersen could make a world of difference to our defence. I like the look of the front three but Mitro has got to stop wandering out wide and needs to goal hang a bit more. I think we are getting there but the gap is growing between the bottom three and the rest and if tonight's game is a draw we will back on the bottom so we'd better there faster than British rail ;0)
Replies
Normally Mitro would have hammered that ball into the net. Equally that header he had near the end he would normally bury. He had a bad game is all we can say unless he finds the pressure of the Premier League unbearable compared to the Championship or internationals.

I find it strange Murphy to conclude Sheffield United will be ok this season but without saying it implied Fulham will not. On yesterday’s performance, we looked a more capable team of scoring goals and staying up. When we get Anderson back, we will literally have a completely different team to last season (thought we’d not do that!). We will get our first win against Palace or West Brom. I am confident we will. Sheffield United is destined to do another Huddersfield.

Difficult for ANYONE to make predictions this term. Who'd have thought Villa would have maximum points and Everton would be top of the Prem after four or five games? Topsy turvey season until we get fans back and anything could happen in any game with VAR so take all these comments with a very large pinch of salt....

I thought Villa would do well. Just look at their signings and Ross Barclay was a master stroke - probably thanks to J Terry. Grealish is the key. A truly great player not recognized by Southgate. I'm still not sure about Watkins either. My forecast for Villa is contending for top 8. I think FFC will scrape home but with less than 30 points. Burnley, WBA and Sheffield Utd less.

We defended very well in the first half but we also attacked and had a lot of the ball and never really looked in trouble. We attacked more intensely in the second half and if Mitro had not missed that penalty had not missed a sitter for him and had not given away a penalty we would have won 3-0 which would have been a better reflection of the match.

The team overall played much better so I don’t want to take away credit but we defended very well in the first half?? We made quite a few mistakes but got away with it thanks to the keeper! We held the line well at times to catch them offside but could also be 2-3 goals down. Second half we boss the game and gave no space to their forwards.

We bossed the game in the second half, if Mitro had a normal Mitro day, it’s a 3-0 win. Tactically poor for the first 45, the changes Scott made paid big dividends. The one mistake was selection - Neeskens has proven himself far more worthy and effective than Cav. Unless he was injured, he should be starting.
Replies
Drago, you're a naughty boy to say such things and obviously didn't get the message. We should have won by a hat full we're told, strangely told by the same people who forecast we would get well beaten. Parker obviously doesn't have any tactical nous they say, the half time changes purely a random panic move and as for Mitro, well he's a slow, useless bugger who doesn't know where the goal is and should be benched in favor of Kamara and if dopey Parker had done that we would have racked up a billiard score or more. Seriously. You know, I very seldom comment on games as I have to watch the play through the lens of the TV camera. It strikes me that those whose opinions are rancid, to say the least, might usefully adopt the same restraint.

Calm down Ari we drew with another team that haven’t won a game in the league and who were better than us in every department in the first half. When Parker puts together a run of five or six tactically good performances then I will begin to believe he is learning and has the potential to be successful in this highest of levels. So far he has managed 15 (I think) games in the PL and has only won 3. We all witnessed signs of positivity yesterday but please put it all into perspective and try to assess things a little more holistically.

I've been a consistent Parker critic, but I didn't predict we'd lose to Sheffield. I thought we'd win. The first half was pure luck, a top-10 side would've punished us. But at we did play MUCH better, with the same players. There were adjustments made. On a different day, it could've been 3-3.

We will need to improve for sure because teams like West Ham can hurt back. Spurs 3-0 up and cruising, and a Gareth Bale miss at 3-1 should have wrapped that game up. In this league, you can't afford to switch off because you will get punished. We can survive in this league but we also need to take our chances and any half chances. Today was poor and we now know the cost and hurt the prem can deliver...
Replies
Sorry today was not poor, it was the best we have played this season. Mitro is not pants at all he had a bad day. Yes he has got to get better, yes I don’t think he is fit or maybe the internationals have got to him fitness wise. He missed a few that he should have scored. Do you want him dropped? Who will take his place?. I can’t understand why you called him pants, yes he did not play well. No need for juvenile name calling. Mistakes happen, a bit like blaming Parker for not getting Lookman on earlier when he started.

2 players go for a difficult ball at the same time. Only 1 can get there first, so if their boots collide one of them has committed a foul. What absolute bull. Referee should lose his fee and Mitro should have stood back and admired his opponent's talent. Who is making the rules now?

I didn't, along with many others, watch todays game, but I did listen to it on Talksport 2, and they were quite impressed with us at times, and I had to miss the last 15 minutes, so I was so disappointed when I heard the result later. We needed a win today, but hopefully things will improve a lot more against Palace. Why oh why didn't we sign Danny Welbeck, or Troy Deeney, another disastrous decision from our management and coach, and we may live to regret it.

Mitrovic was pants today, and he gave away that game. Lookman like i say, Parker should build from this guy because he is our only sensation and he makes things happen because he wants to play football. Contrary to what some so called Fulham fans say' Tom Cairney is a top player and we are lucky to have him. Even Ream looks like he can finally settle down and be a solid defender in this league. We will be better when our Danish sensation makes his full debut for Fulham. In the meantime, there is no doubt, there is no wait and see bull-crap! Adaemola Lookman is the real deal, and i am shouting it! It can take a person 5 seconds to see talent, or it can take a while. I see Lookman, and it took me 10 seconds to see that this guy is good, and i aint bothered what any doubters say...

Relieved to get our 1st point but also angry it wasn't 3. I am sick and tired of VAR already, thought it was designed to help referees and pick up on clear and obvious errors....is using a microscope for offsides pointing to clear and obvious errors? Yesterday it was disgraceful and today it gave Sheffield United a penalty for nothing...a 50/50 ball that both players were going for, every coming together is not a foul. Use it properly or get rid.

Adarbioyo looked class to me, so composed, could be a real find. Loftus Cheek needs a few more minutes but showed glimpses, Lookman, well, another gem. All in all reasons to be positive me thinks

Agree Guardian. The newbies look good acquisitions, and we are waiting with bated breath for Andersen who if he lives up to his reputation, he will bring even more to our team. I also think that individually, players from our old guard like Ream will gain more confidence because they have never had better players around them. Even Odoi could gain a lot more now and there might be a time when he is needed. Confidence wise' Cairney is growing and he will get better for playing around Robinson, Lookman etc. 1 point and still bottom but there is a lot to hope for and build on. Mitrovic, we can excuse his awful day and put it down to international duty. Mitrovic knows that he let Fulham down today, but he will put it right next time around...

Come on guys don't get on Mitrovic's back, every striker has days like he had today. The service he got in the 1st half was abysmal, if we play the game like we did in the 2nd half he will come good.

Bit stupid some of the comments. Mitro is a top international player with a decent international side who has cut it in this league before and has scored against top defenders. Every player has off days and bed periods of form and fitness and he has struggled in a poor side this year. But it’s typically fulhamish to turn on a player for a few poor games

What a bad game though, misses a penalty gives away a stupid penalty and misses a sitter. Without him we would probably have won 3-0. He has no real competition for the spot is the problem, a hell of a disincentive.

NRL' you are right in saying we shouldn't get on Mitrovics back, everyone has a bad game from time to time. If there are any doubters still out there that think that Cairney is second rate and doesn't belong in this league? They need to watch our 2nd half again. Tom Cairney was brilliant, he grew into the game and was unlucky not to score one. That peach of a ball in to Mitrovic was what we are looking for from him. I really think that a few clubs will take note of Cairney and see his potential combined with better players around him. I also think that Scott Parker should consider giving Lookman a full debut now the genie is out of the bottle. Arguably, we might have won the game if Parker had acted sooner? Loftus Cheek will get up to speed sooner or later and we have Anguissa. Honestly, i can see Fulham climbing the table, no fear of that...

Cairneys 2nd half performance was good because he was pushed forward where he belongs. Parker's tactics up till then have had him playing too much in our half of the pitch. Martin Jol took us backwards with those tactics.

Bigboy' those pesky internationals always get in the way when you need a player at his sharpest. I believe that Mitrovic featured for most of the minutes for Serbia last game? I was blazing angry ant Mitro for the penalty and a nailed-on header for goal? Sadly' Mitro would not have been at his sharpest for this game today. This was the game when we needed Mitro at his sharpest but not to be. Funnily enough, Rangers i believe had 10 players on international duty going into the Celtic game and they won. I am not too convinced on how strong that Scottish league is? Mitrovic will obviously have more quality supply now. Lets just say' he owes us a performance, and i think he knows that one judging from his reaction. He will deliver...

Kamara would be lucky to get a place in Wimbledon's team, let alone a Premier League team, and that's what we are, and hope to remain so, but not if Kamara ever gets in the side, him and Cav should never put a foot on the pitch at CC again, To sum up, they are both completely useless.

He is probably the only player at fulham that always was secure of his position. What you have witnessed today is the consequence of having no competition for Mitrovic. Every player needs competition in order to perform better. Ask yourself this question: Has mitrovic improved while playing at us? I personally don’t think so. Definitely not the last two years. He needs competition. Dont treat him like a top class player cuz he is not !
Replies
Have to agree Bobby Z. Mitro is a good bench man for EPL. He doesn't hold the ball up and bring others in like Zamora did. His best challenge today cost us a penalty and 2 points. Get an academy player in. TC had some good shots today. Good enough and better than Mitro. Can't see us beating Palace, another point off WBA? We're heading for less than 20 for the season. Prefer Bryan to Robinson too.

I can forgive a penalty miss and giving away a penalty but for a striker to not be busting his guts to get in the oppositions box is winding me up. There are times where we have no one in the box to get on the end of crosses and pulling defenders away from cut backs. Anguissa played a ball across the goal mouth and not one player got close to it. Do your job get in the box

Ken - Mitrovic still has to play, I just think he could take up some better positions. He started getting in the box more towards the end of the game but he could be getting so many more easy goals from getting in between defenders in around the penalty spot. Really annoyed me that he was nowhere to be seen when anguissa held the ball up then rolled it across the box, he had about five seconds to make a run in towards goal, leave lookman/cairney all waiting on the edge of the box - you a striker get in the box

I just cannot believe the criticism Mitro is getting here.Without Mitro we would not have won promotion in 2017/18,we would have been the worst ever premier league team in 2018/19,and we would not have won promotion last season.Yes Mitro does need help up front,as he does indeed score a ridiculously high percentage of our goals.Sadly, the incompetent moron known as Tony Khan has failed to sign a reliable striker to back up Mitro.

Both of them had their feet high trying to get to the ball...in a 50/50 someone comes out 2nd, an accidental clash is not always a foul. Palace got a penalty against Brighton that wasn't deserved, Batshuyi deliberately fell on the defender... should've been a yellow card for simulation (stupid word, it's CHEATING)

Wild high kick? They both had the same height and nitro touched/brushed his stud. He didn't kick him his ankle, his foot, his face he touched his stud. How is that a foul? Plus the ball was already skied by the Sheffield utd player it's not like it stopped him running/shooting or anything it was a brush of his studs. A joke of a decision

As a Championship player I like Tim Ream, but he’s not suited to the pace and physicality of the Premier League. Every time the ball comes into the box it’s panic mode, and it mostly stems from him. Yes it’s definitely a stitch up but realistically if you went to a home match it’s a minimum of £35 without refreshments an away game £100 plus so I guess £15 is not beyond most fans.Question is who gets the money?
posted by Chief (Guest) - Saturday 17th October 2020, 6:09 PM

It is not just the football league that is losing money they cannot afford most Premier League teams are in the same situation. What they are charging is less than you would pay to go to the match, so if you are not a former season holder just pay as much as you would have paid if you were picking and choosing matches on the basis you always did. I was a season ticket holder and went to a lot of away games as well so will buy the games as it will still be a lot cheaper than what I would have paid in a normal season and I will see more games. It is not as good as being at a game by country mile but it is a lot better than nothing.

We might be running on fumes going into the Sheff game tomorrow, depending on how some will look at it? Joachim Andersen is out, but we still have enough guns to win up at Sheffield in my opinion. We will just have to make do concerning our defense and in any case, there will be chances for defenders like odoi, etc to redeem themselves all over again. In the mean-time, we have a wonder-kid by the name of Lookman who we can get excited about. When was the last time some of us guys really got excited about anything? Xmas' i know that i am going to get socks and boxer shorts again and i look forward to eating my favorite chocs which i eat most of the year anyway. Thank you Doris' lol. In Ademola Lookman we have someone who will dribble and take on all 11 opposition on his todd, how exciting is that folks? Lookman also has perfect visionary sensors, and he is capable of threading a pass through the eye of a needle. Up to this point of reading this, i think some will say, wait and see what unfolds in front of our eyes, why wait? From the get-go, Lookman came on for his debut against Wolves and it was obvious that this kid had something extra, something that we have not seen for a long time for Fulham. Ryan Sessegnon was the last player that really made an impact for Fulham. It is a pity that we cannot see both Lookman and Sess tearing the opposition apart, that would have been poetry in motion. We need to get rid of that Ebenezer-scrooge and darned right miserable mentality out of us guys. We need to be like kids again, excited about our nearest thing to Messi and Ronaldo. What the ek' i might even splash out a tenner to see us and Lookman tomorrow and maybe a lemonade? I can't afford those posh clarets of red wine they sell for £150 a bottle. That is MST's department. Way out of my league. COME ON YE FULHAM!!!!!!!

Once again it appears Brentford have unearthed another gem in Toney who got a brace today making his total five since arriving from Peterborough. Toney will progress and it doesn't matter his goals were against Coventry. He has scored five goals in 3 games and obviously knows how to find the net. Malcolm MacDonald came from Maidenhead and Graham Leggatt from Aberdeen and became top scorers for Fulham. Brentford have just sold their top three scorers for over seven times the amount they paid for them and, no doubt, will do the same with Toney sometime in the future. My point is that our scouting set up does not have a clue and are looking at players who do not have the potential to improve with the right coaching.

There are some gems at non league level too. Horsfield was a great find for us. Can’t guarantee Toney will do it at premier league level. I would rather we have an academy where all our youngsters are good enough to step into first team instead of just not playing them or selling them on for peanuts

I make it 28 in the squad, remembering Knockhead has gone on loan. So three will slip into the under 23s. I would guess at Seri, Ream and McDonald.

So new players get injured after they joined, Tony Khan’s fault? Also while on holiday my dog woke me in the early hours, my mobile had to be returned for repair (it hasn’t come back) and a few weeks ago I fell and badly grazed my hand. Where was Khan when all these things happened. In the U.S. I bet! Also BT are rubbish, their internet stinks does Khan care? Another thing, what is Tony Khan doing about Brexit? Nothing! Apart from investing millions in a loss making enterprise, building a state of the art stand and getting the club into the EPL twice what have the Khans done for Fulham? Why hasn’t he found a cure for corona virus? Has he formed a space shield against asteroids? No! Then there’s WR104, if that goes hypernova then we’re all finished, oh and black holes ...
Replies
1. No one asked him to buy it 2. If he’d of run it properly from the start we’d of never been relegated from the EPL in the first place. He broke our 13 consecutive season run 3. This season will be his third EPL relegation season .....WELL DONE TONY

Like most, I've said my piece on TK and SP. We've been dreadfully unlucky with injuries to new players but is it fair or right to blame anyone. We've not got a top 6 squad but with hard work and better training, we could climb the table enough to stay in it. Time to move on. Come on you whites!

I love you sarcasm and as others have said we actually have a huge staff including the players, management, administrative and minimum wage workers all must share in the blame for anything that goes wrong, which to be sensible is not a lot and if we win the next two games even Parker will be viewed by some as a tactical genius.

TK has really messed up this critical transfer window by being fundamentally incompetent. Trying to show he has learnt his lessons from the failures last time he has been caught in middle neither doing one thing or the other very well. On one hand he doesn’t want to spend big money on lots of new players and on the other it is about giving the players who got us promoted a chance to shine. TK please understand we need to spend wisely and we do need to spend big to survive in this league with an inexperienced coach. The transfer strategy deployed has left us devoid in doing anything particularly well whatever way you want to look at it. Shambles.

I think TK has worked with SP to get players in as a good a price possible where they are needed. I think we have a well balanced squad now. It may take a few game for them to play as a team but playing a demoralised club tomorrow might be a good starting point for the revival.

Scott Parker's masterplan is a modern concept, tried and tested by the best managers out there now. Pep Guardiola comes to mind and his Man City was proving quite successful playing the Tikki-taki ball out from the back. Guardiola's system fell apart when the likes of Kompany hung up their football boots, along with a few more old guards of the beautiful game. A successful and winning back four only come along once in a decade or twice if you are Barcelona. Parker was hoping to build ours around Joachim Andersen who is now injured and out for maybe 2 or 3 weeks at a push. Parker has no choice now concerning our defense. We will have to make do with some of our calamities along with our newbie Kongolo. There is a smidgin of hope from within our ranks, and Parker will go to plan 'B'? We know from Scotty's enthusiasm and interviews about Ademola Lookman, that he marvels and is excited about our new sensation. What other option do we have than to build our hopes and plans around him? I like plan B very much, providing we score some goals in the bargaining. It would look better on Parker's cv if we can outscore some of the opposition in this prem asap. Any score like a 4-3 win against Sheff Utd tomorrow afternoon will do nicely and i have no doubt that a win will see Fulham fans ecstatic in raptures, of joy. In Lookman we have the next Maradonna and Messi in one. Scott Parker believes that, and we must buy into this dream also. We cannot hold fire, we must not doubt that we can outscore some prem opposition and climb the table. We didn't get all our transfer targets in this window to say we are water-tight. No plans are entirely bullet-proof, and there is still open doors and opportunity for some of our flailing unit back in defense. There is still time to make up for the shambles of a start for some tomorrow. Remember the plan tomorrow lads'! Protect our goalie as long as possible, and get the ball up to Loftus Cheek who will supply Mitrovic. Tom Cairney will do his Pirlo thing in his own time and hopefully, he will come into the game a few seconds quicker than he has been doing. What possibly could go wrong tomorrow? A 4-3 to Sheff Utd will see Fulham fans retire to darkened rooms listening to Boris Johnson on the virus, and we don't want that. Our boy Ademola Lookman is our big hope, but he is what we have to hope for... COME ON FULHAM!!!!!!!!

John , our academy has made great strides the players mentioned signed /left us for so called world class sides and also sides in the top 10-or close too richest in the World. If these 3 had stayed with us, they'd be playing lower end PL ball or top end champ ball. which is very good indication of how far the accad Fayed set up with Jennings have done. The key point is it takes kids from 10 years old or younger to be coached and trained . before fulham no accad or were not able to attract these young kids. but year on year weve seen the crop be l2, then l1, then champ and now finally we producing PL players. it is a good sign. rodak is still evidence though our talent is not quite PL ready. one day soon we may be the next west ham accad, or chelsea if we looking at getting real PL talent in the side??
posted by peacockFFC (Guest) - Friday 16th October 2020, 4:18 PM

Having watches almost as many academy matches as our first team i must say the talent scouting ,training ,set up is second to none, and long may it continue. As regards to Elliott the insincere devious scousers are loaning him out just to say to the transfer arbitration that he is not prem: class so Fulham should not be paid the anywhere near their asking price.
posted by KUNYE (Guest) - Friday 16th October 2020, 7:00 PM

PeacockFFC I have no intention of discredit our youth system. We have had many many potentials but name one player come out of our system who is now an established top league player? The closest is probably young Dembele but we all know that he start out at Fulham. I can’t even name one player in the 10m bracket. And now a days 10m would at best get you a premier sub. We can’t say we are one of the best when you see true players churned our by the top 10 clubs. A bit of a reality check I think! The argument that if they stayed they could have been a star is also weak. Look at Betts. Chelsea wanted him 4-5years ago. Look at woodrow, he held out as long as he could and was playing for England U21. We got a good youth system but not one of the best!
