Hearing reports that apart from Harry Wilson's injury, and possibly out for another 7 weeks, we now have our new winger Manor Solomon crocked in a Chelsea against Fulham kick about. At the start of the season, this is all we need, and if Mitro pulls a muscle, and could be out for several weeks we could be in big big trouble. Is it time to panic, or will Marco try to bring ion other forwards before the deadline closes, and will all of these financial restrictions put a stop to that ?

Rodak to keep number one slot or should Leno start against Wolves?

Leno 100%. Did you see Rodak messing about inside his area again in the second half with short kick out putting us under pressure and nearly leading to a calamity. Leno has to be first choice to my mind....

Rodak should stat. He made good saves in the game and deserves to keep his place. New boys need to earn their position not just be handed the shirt after such a good result and performance.

Without a doubt Solomon looked lightweight. Easily bossed, and trying to be a bit too clever. Hopefully he'll get with the pace and pressure of life in the prem'. On the other hand Palhina and Pereira, along with Reed were imperious. I thought their domination of midfield covered for much of the weaknesses of our back 4, which is going to need shoring up sooner rather than later. I'll be very surprised if Duffy is good enough for that. His loan spell at Celtic was a bit of a disaster, he has no chance of making it in Brightons back 4, and so he's out on loan again. Anyone else sitting close behind the dugouts?..Am I right in thinking he looked confused and very nervous while getting his instructions before coming on?

We were under pressure when Solomon came on. Showed some nice touches not least putting Mitro through for the penalty. A good young player finding his feet. Give him a chance!

I think some of you lot expect every player to hit the ground running. Would be nice but life's not like that. I remember Hangeland getting slaughtered, every week, Bambi on ice etc. Even in my Tarmac laying alter ego I can't be expected to lay a nice flat surface every week. He had a fantastic career in France prior to West Ham and might come good again under a different manager. I think Moyes has issues with certain players and as a consequence either doesn't play them or plays them out of position to vindicate himself.

Diop is sluggish, has no clear vision, no pace and if can't make it into the West Ham side, he will not get a look in with the Fulham team. May as well keep faith with Tim Ream. If Shane Duffy is a done deal, surely, we would not have room for Diop.

What do we have to do to get credit for our performances? Will we continually be told the opposition are dire when we play well? We dominated Liverpool in the 1st half and didn't allow them time and space and both of their goals had a touch of luck about them with deflections involved. Not asking for much but a bit of praise when we've earnt it wouldn't go amiss.

I think you have to put in a number of good performances before you can expect Fulham to get some real credit, and not just expect a public holiday to be declared on the strength of one game. That said, if you were at the friendly against Villarreal recently I think you will agree with me that that was another similarly good performance. So that’s two in a row now!

I know that we have played only one match, and put up a pretty good display in it as well, but was this a game we were really up for, and we put all our efforts into one basket, and that was our peak already, or was this the beginning of the traces of being really good competitors in the Premier League. In other words do you think that we can survive the drop again this season, I hope that I am right, but I think we can this time.
Replies
Yes it is game one and no you cannot tell anything from it. Bournemouth were all over Villa, Brentford came back from 2-0 down against Leicester, Brighton beat Utd and I doubt if ours and all these fixtures were played in game day 10, the results would be the same. Unfortunately, we won't know anything until we break up for the World Cup in my opinion but I am hopeful we will be good enough for mid-table once our transfer activity has been ratified....

Ten games in the season you get a good idea where we are in things. We need additions, at least four, striker, centre back, centre midfield and wide midfielder to replace loss of Wilson.

Showing that sort of all round commitment will win us a lot of games. Improvement in central defence is essential, both the Liverpool goals required no skill by them just errors by Tosin and Ream.

A bit unfair Liverpool opening goal was pace, movement and classy finish. It did show the difference between Premier and Championship standard. The second goal was a mix up that can happen. Ream and Tosin were unbelievably good on Saturday.
posted by Realistic (Guest) - Monday 08th August 2022, 1:39 PM

They were good apart from the two Liverpool goals. Once bounced off Tosin's foot the other Ream head the ball the wrong way. Neither are good enough for the Premier League.

I remember looking at video footage of this guy when Fulham were in talks and thought then, he will make the world of difference to us. Yes, we have Mitro and other good players, but Palhinha will give us more steel in midfield and his strength will spread throughout the whole team. Team captain me thinks, and first name on the team sheet every week....Also, I know there are doubters about VESTEEGAARD, but I think we could seriously do with his physical presence at the back.

This season's Premier League could be a very interesting and close one, as at this stage of the season, it seems it's going to be very open, both at the top and the bottom, if we take this weekends results as a guide. We drew with Liverpool, when every pundit in the land forecast a thumping. Brighton win at Man United, which nobody expected, Brentford did well to collect a point at Leicester, and Bournemouth beat Villa. So all of the teams that we think will be involved in a relegation fight did well, apart from Notts Forest, but that was a hard fixture anyway. Even some of the top teams are near the bottom, but after one game played it makes little difference. I think that we will have a pretty good season, provided that we can make CC a fortress, and score more than 9 goals, as before ! !

We are now in the best league in the world, so they tell us, with, which has been pointed out, there being no easy games among the big boys. Normally clubs like ourselves aim to get to that 40 point safety margin, but with so many even stevens clubs this season, I reckon that to stay out of the bottom three clubs will need more like 50 points, and that is going to be hard for all of us, except the top 6.
posted by Brian Jarvis (Guest) - Sunday 07th August 2022, 5:46 PM

Brian, your argument doesn't make sense - lower league clubs will be scrambling for points with your formula because the top eight (City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Spurs, Newcastle and even Utd) are streets ahead of the rest. 50 points will likely get you top 10 (just) this season in my opinion. Bottom three clubs will likely be looking at 32 - 35 points and the bottom club might even beat Derby's record of 11 points. The size of squads and five subs will create an even bigger gap - compare Liverpool subs with Fulham's at the weekend....

Mr Klopp complains about the pitch at the Cottage, which is typical of him. He was furious about dropping two points beside the Thames, which is understandable. Our Manager seemed quite pleased with the result, but he should have been more honest – it was not good for us and also two points dropped after holding a 2 -1 advantage up to the last 10 minutes. We have will have to do better as Mr Mitrovic will be a marked man from now on. We have to stop losing concentration in the last 30 minutes. Apart from that an improvement on last year no doubt.

What a difference a change of manager can make to a player. Mitro looked lazy, fat and uninterested under our previous manager, but looking at him close up, yesterday, he looked really fit, and where did that speed and ball control come from ? Well I think that I have got it right, when I say that we must heap that praise on Marco, who has given him all the confidence in the world, and he now really does look like a Premier League striker. I hope, if he keeps on scoring on a regular basis, we don't lose him in the next transfer window, from some club with a big black and white striped cheque book.

Did you miss last season? He scored 43 times under Marco Silvas reign but I know what you mean. 3 goals for Parker in a season and 2 inside 3/4 hour for Silva this time around. The guy is the real deal and we now play to his strengths, long may it be so.... A few centre backs this season are in for a hard time... Mitro's on fire, they'll be terrified!

All clubs record the attendance as the tickets sold as I suppose that reflects their income, but as they record the people who go to the game through turnstiles that would be a much more accurate measures.

Clubs count both. Ticket sales and turnstiles. They have to know for health and safety purposes as well. The difficulty comes with hospitality packages and boxes whose occupants don't go through barriers but are counted inn via tickets collected. A corporate box for twenty may only have 14 show up. The club wouldn't necessarily know the true attendance until near the end of a game I imagine announcing the attendance isn't a priority.

To see his interview again on FTV, Mitrovic looks so relaxed and upbeat about the new season. His Ali tee-shirt said it all and he did sting like a bee to this match in the opening season. He does mention a good pre-season which sounded ever so comical to all the doubters before we kicked off. Mitro's early 2 goals will settle the nerves and is the best start to our season in many ways. 98 Goals now and only 2 more to break the hundred mark for Fulham, 'Wow'!!! I am upping my prediction from 12 to 20, 'yes 20' Goals, he will prove the doubters wrong and he is hungry to do so. MT was right to give Antonee Robinson a mention because this yank can spank most defenders in this prem. The prem is more for pace than anything and fortunately for Robinson, he is blessed with it. Robinson must keep on working at his defensive side of the game as well as bombing forward. Van Dijk and Trent Arnold knew they were in a game against us and their reputation for being the best around was truly tested. There are still a lot of games and space for Joe Bryan here at Fulham because it is not possible for any human athlete to put in 100% in every game...

I got a real close up look at Mitro yesterday, and he looked really fit, and the likes of the Liverpool defence have not come up against such a superb centre forward for a long time and they did not know how to handle him. Where did his speed and ball control come from ? In my opinion this is all down to Marco, who has given him all the confidence in the world. If he plays well over the first half of the season, then will we be able to keep him, now that's a worry.

I'm not too disappointed myself, if that is true, as he has certainly gone of the boil since joining Leicester, but the alternative is an even worse Diop, if that on off transfer is the still going. The way Tosin and Ream played yesterday, we are certainly not in panic mood just yet. Marek also played well so is Leno now going to be a bench warmer, or will they play alternative matches throughout the season.

We still need two centre backs, Ream cost us the win yesterday and although Rodak had a good game Leno must be the regular keeper.

I am afraid managers rarely admit the opposition made us play badly as that tells everybody else the best way to beat them. Just say it is a bad day and tell everybody to forget it as we will be better next time. Even when we beat teams last seasons by huge scores the opposition managers in the main talked about how badly their defence played. A few said we were a different class, but that could be a sacking offence.

Wolves and Leeds dominated the Championship in winning it like we did and it means we have a good chance of thriving rather than surviving. We will survive this season and Liverpool might do as well.

Much too early to say whether we will survive or not. Far as I'm concerned, Klopp can say what he likes, he's earnt the right to. Was pleased with Fulham's performance, but noticed that whenever Liverpool attacked, they had more options in the box, we often only had one. Must improve on that.

The match also shows what a good manager Silva is. He reasoned that passing around at the back was dangerous against Liverpool so we hardly ever did it. I remember last season many opposition managers complained it was not fair for a Premier League manager to work in the Championship.

Why beat ourselves up and scrutinize our good and satisfactory result against a decent Liverpool side. It was said that a Liverpool 'B' side and 'C' would tank us every day of the week. Marco Silva, Boa Morte, and all coaching staff earned their pay against a Liverpool that a lot of teams would have approached carefully and cautious. A Scott Parker side would definitely have come with a more cautious and defensive approach. Perhaps the genie is out of the bottle now and teams will be braver and bolder when playing Liverpool all thanks to Fulham lol. Bournemouth and Parker came away with a decent win and points against a Villa who have not won in 12 prem games from last year now i think? Maybe the bookies have got it all wrong on odds on who will go down? Villa might well rue the day they got rid of a more conservative Dean Smith who i think is more suited and booted to their club. Gerhard will need to fire a rocket to get the likes of Coutinho going. Sometimes these luxury players are a bane and a distraction to clubs, just take a look at utd and Ronaldo. Lastly i will say that clubs such as Fulham, Bournemouth, and so called yo-yo clubs, are not necessarily disadvantaged or inferior to the premiership. We live and learn a thing or two and besides that, i think it is only the true top 8 prem teams that are above and elite from everyone else. And the reason for that is money and piles of it...

I think the so called expert pundits did not notice we did not just win the Championship we dominated it and outclassed most of the teams in it. Our players yesterday with the addition of a few new signings looked like a good Premier League Team. We will do quite a bit more than survive this season particularly with the addition of a few quality centre backs and a quality standby for Mitro who is great but not invincible and if he gets injured in the next game for example we are scuppered.

Had the team ready with a perfect aggressive mentality. Not passing side to side, only looking forward. Had Rodak kicking long to Mitro, starting attack further upfield, not messing about in our penalty area. Players looked fit as well, even in the last 10 minutes. Chose the right XI. Standout start to the season. Palinha and Reed worked beautifully winning balls. Our fullbacks both played very well. And Mitro was Mitro!

What' Palhinha and Reed working together? 'Well, i never! The signing of Joao Palhinha was and is the most important signing ever in this Fulham era. I thought the whole team were brilliant today and for Scout to say it was only a point against the European finalists, and a team on a 22 game unbeaten run is a joke. Yes one swallow doesn't make a summer, but we won't have to play half as well today, against lesser talented sides in this league. I can't wait to see MOTD, to see what the likes of Danny Murphy and Gary Lineker have to say. They will probably say that Liverpool were below par, with little, encouragement for us, as per Scout for a really good performance. Most of our fans, including me, would have literally bitten our arm of for that result before the game. It was nice to see and hear the good reception that was given to Fabio when he came on, and I am really pleased that he didn't score a winner.

And to some comments we are now playing with the big boys we are in the same league going overboard about a draw at home is stupid. Consistency is the name of the game. We can start crowing after 40 points. Too many of you don’t understand football and your mindless unthought excitement is frustrating and unwise. Interestingly, Klopp seemed overly worried about his squad and injuries before the game which i think played into our hands a little bit? Maybe Marco is cleverer and more astute than we know it, and we saw it with our aggressive and more positive approach to Liverpool. Football is a funny old game, and Liverpool is maybe the perfect game and start we needed to go on through the season. If we can play with that degree of intensity and skill for most of our games we will have a good season. We worried Liverpool of their stride and if only Mitro had put that early one on one chance away we would probably. Mind you Liverpool showed what a good team they are by nearly winning a game they should have lost.

I am proud of the team, not because they got a draw against one of the favourites for the title, but for the tremendous work rate and fighting spirit. Mitrovic deserves all the plaudits by proving he is not just a Championship player but potentially the “real deal”. This game will give them confidence although, we still need to strengthen the defence. Well done lads.

Palhinha was an absolute beast. Won the ball several times. Protected Tosin and Ream as MT accurately predicted. Already ordered my 26 shirt. Will be interested to see, with lesser competition and/or bringing on a stronger CB, him having a little more freedom to disrupt play further up the pitch and show off his passing range. But did what was needed on the day. Well done all the lads but Pali and Mitro especially.
posted by Californian - Saturday 06th August 2022, 2:49 PM

I wrote a million times about Palhinha, and how we needed protection, and it would enhance Reed's game before a ball was kicked. Duffy 'will' make us more tight when he is fully fit and wound up for battle. If we had Palhinha in front of Andersen in our last promotion, we still would be prem boys, but sadly no one identified that detail. Leminha gave us our victory last time out against Liverpool but Leminha was proven the wrong type of player for Fulham at the time. This is the problem with luxury players like Leminha, they tend to have more bad games than good ones and that proved the case. There are some people who come on this site that no 'Jack' about the game of football and they know who they are. I am happy about our result against a tough opponent in Liverpool who will go on to better things, and they will spank a load of teams when they are ready. That said' we now know a lot more about our team. Mitrovic is an absolute beast and he can hold his own in this league. Our fringe players such as Kebano and Harrison Reed and Cairney can go forward with confidence and bring more to the team because they have more protection. Yes we need to add more quality to our team and we will. It was nice to see Mitro expose the big man Van and 'yes' it was a penalty, and 'yes' Mitrovic was a touch clever going down a milli second late but still there was enough on it for a penalty. Mitrovic has demonstrated what he is all about and he will be a thorn and a headache for all defenders. 'What a start' and a great game. COME ON FULHAM!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow see the start of our campaign and our primary aim obviously, is to remain in the Premier. We all know our team needs to be strengthen in certain areas but we all need to be patient and let management deal with this issue. During the closed season this board has been plagued by doom and gloom so let’s get behind our team especially at home matches starting tomorrow. Marco needs time to find his best team and get the new arrivals up to speed. We should all accept this season will be particularly hard but we are capable of staying out of the bottom three and, in my opinion would be a reasonable achievement. I consider we should not prejudge Marco or the team until the first ten games have been completed. I believe we are in for a harsh experience but have the players to keep us afloat.

Not sure if it’s expectation management or what, but it hardly inspires the team to outperform. I get the impression that the job was completed last season and there’s nothing left in the tank. Bournemouth and us look and sound like we’re already down, as Parker seems equally downbeat

Scout and Rm, fans like you make me literally sick, and I really wonder why you bother to support our club, or are you Brentford infiltrator's in disguise, as I have never read such a load of old rubbish before a ball is kicked into the new season. I have a completely different opinion to you on Marco's interview .Would you expect him to say that we are going to completely outplay Liverpool, and we are going to send them home with their tales between their legs. We all know that is most unlikely, but football is a funny game with funny results every single week of the season. I remember Norwich beating Man City 3-2, when nobody gave them a snowballs chance in hell. Marco wasn't being downbeat, he was just being truthful. If our opening game was against Wolves or Leeds, we would mall be fully expecting to win, and a happier interview would have taken place. We will NOT, be relegated this season, far from it, we will do pretty well, so sorry to upset you two absolute miseries. COYW

Agree Brian. Absolute rubbish. Marco is being straight but not in the slightest unenthusiastic. Indeed he says we can expect a tough season and he has prepared the team for this. The team know it too but they’ve been prepared to go out and play to their strengths, like last season. Looking forward to tomorrow. Liverpool for sure a tough side and one of the worlds best. 2-1 Fulham is 25-1. 3-3 is 75-1. I've a cheeky fiver on each. Cautious Fulham hitting them in the break or swashbuckling Fulham with Leno punting it upfield and ten players chasing after it? You decide. Enjoy the game whatever happens.

There's a few memories. Beddy Jezzard finished the season with 27 goals, and Johnny Haynes with 19.

Happy with the big guy Duffy at centre-half. We now also have good cover with Palinha in front of Duffy with Harrison Reed. We don't need the brains of Britain or the most skilful. What we were crying out for was a big 6ft + centre half that can mop up and block. Don't dismiss Ream, i think there still is a need for him and i think he will still play a part in our latest quest to stay in the prem. Just remember that there are questions and question marks concerning more than half our squad, not just Ream. Mitro, Kebano, Cairney, D Reed, you name them. They all know that they will need to step up in this league and i have no doubts that they will play their hearts out for Fulham. As you will know, I live not far from the Amex where Brighton play, and I have Brighton season ticket holder friends, who I have texted for their opinions. One friend said that he was amazed that Brighton have let Duffy go to Fulham, as in his opinion, he is far better than Dan Burn, who left for Newcastle, and my other friend says that Cooper likes playing out from the back and it's not Duffy's forte, and that's why Cooper didn't have him in his plans. In that case he should suit us fine. I have watched him myself, and just thought that he was a steadying influence at the back, but no more than that. Duffy, if it works out, could turn out to be a good signing, as was a similar player, Andersen.

When will all you of you weeds accept what this club is? We are a boutique family club that attempts to punch above its own weight. We are never going to win silverware and going up and down is what a team like Fulham do. It’s basic math. I support Fulham because I lived in Ealing and I had choices to make. I don’t like fancy ass teams with lots of dosh I like underdogs. I accept our owner has no ambition and trust me he does not care. Owning FFC to him is just a platform for him to move the Jags here. So lean back close your eyes and think of the cottage. This side we have now is the best I’ve seen in 5 years and perhaps we’ll suck out and stay up. Just stop all the wining and support your team. You know every once in a while we get a little nugget of joy. I hope that Mitro scores 25 goals plus just to shut up all the haters. Little nuggets.

Absolutely right on FFP. Our hands are completely tied. However it was TK that put us in that situation to be honest. Covid waiver is the only thing that kept us from penalties up to this point. Been shocked, very pleasantly that is, that nothings been handed down as of yet. The revenue vs expenditures has been out of whack for 4 years. I truly believe the Khans have ambition and would continue to spend if allowed, especially with the beautiful new stand coming on line. FFP just won’t give us a chance to do what he needs to do. Maybe bringing in a new minority owner would buy us some time? I think with the buying price, FFP also allows for a grace period to the new partner. Didn’t Villa pull that move a few years back?

More likely find he is knackered after 30 minutes as has been carrying a long term injury of which we were unaware as signing had to be completed within 6 hours as Real Madrid showing interest according to his agent , it was either sign now or lose him . Still at £15m seems to be an uncut diamond , not sure why his Brazilian Club so keen to see him depart . Actually think at least 3 of our new signings make good sense , just wish they had joined a month ago . we still lack cover for CF and need CH with solid prem experience .

The window closes on 1 September so there is no rush yet.

Moan, moan, moan!! Only ever negative posts. Why bother; just go and support a club that deserves your level of expertise because you clearly know more than people that have been in football and/or business all their lives. Please don't write "if you don't like it don't read it" because that is the most stupid phrase I have heard in years and if you can't work out why well.....

As per my post below.....I can't work out why some of you think we are behind other teams in the transfer market? I suggest you take a look at the quality of players and the number of signings the teams against which we will compete for survival have signed. I refer to Southampton, Leeds, Brentford Everton, Bournemouth, Leicester, Palace and yes, even Forest who have signed squillians of players with only one that you can count as quality who is that confident Forest will stay up that he signed a one season deal. Also look at who those teams have sold which is just as important....

Shame Duffy from Brighton, and thought we would end up with second or third choice not fifth and sixth choice. Shambles. We start the season with Ream and Tosin at centre back, we’ve got no chance. All this pre season time has been wasted.

Signing anyone now will be late, so why rush now. If we get Justin Kluivert, Diop & another CH, I think we've had a very good window. I wouldn't be bothered about a back up for Mitro, Muniz & Stansfield should get run outs. Just my opinion.

Scout, you're as bad as Kunye - never a good word to say about the club :0((

We got promoted at a canter as we had the most expensive squad in terms of wages in the Championship. We also have a high price managers and purchased a lot of players other Championship teams could not afford. The FIFA financial limits work over a three year period, we spent a lot last season and a lot the season before in the PL. So this seasons we have limited funds to spend. Our owner is a very rich man, spends what he can on players but spends a lot on the non limited areas, like the great new stand, our academy facilities and trying to get the best under 18s we can.

Scout, in the short time you have been on this site you have done nothing other than moan about the club. As a fan for sixty years I have seen the club making terrible mistakes, probably a lot of the older fans on this board have also been shocked after the club have done ludicrous things and/or buying/selling players. We may have had a moan but this is Fulham and we got used to it. We have however never slagged the club off and we have always got behind the new players and not moaned about them prior to them kicking their first ball for us. Best thing you can do is either get behind the club irrespective of what players we get in or support another club because it’s always going to be the same at the cottage.

As usual, bucket loads of negativity from Kunye & Scout. They might produce a positive word one day but I’m not holding my breath. For what it’s worth, I think we have had a good window so far - the new signings are class players, with good experience, and we haven’t paid extortionate amounts for them. A couple more good additions and we are in with a fighting chance.
