We are much stronger with Iwobi or Berge partnering Lukic. It’s time to sell AP — he keeps costing us points, starting with the botched pass against Man U on opening day. Silva has such unjustified faith, given the mountain of evidence, including statistics that show AP as a poor passer who is weak in the tackle. Were it not for the false inflation of his performance by taking corners, it would be clear he’s nowhere near the top half of CMs in the Prem.

To execute a shot like that you have to be talented and have composure to even pull it off. Even though a division down Vata obviously has talent and we know more for next time when and if there is a next time. Interestingly, i would like to add that it would be nice for some of ours to show more composure in similar situations when a potential goal opportunity arises and its not like we haven't had some opportunities to shoot. We pass around a lot and wait for openings and my gripe is that sometimes, we can load off a shot after 52 passes etc. The snag is to control the sudden rush of blood from some of our forward players. Why is it that i have to hark back to Willian, who was good at finding openings and unleashing a good one? Rowe Wilson and especially Pereira need to step up...

Other time high tackles and penalties will be missed. On balance the game has been improved by the change in procedure.

Many years ago, a left winger went around Tommy Smith in a Liverpool home game and the story goes that Smith said to the youngster “do that again and I will break your effing leg”. The youngster steered well clear of Tommy for the rest of the game. You will, I am sure, remember the 1974 Charity Shield Final between Leeds v Liverpool when Bremner and Keegan were involved in the infamous fist fight and were both sent off. Leeds were a nasty team in those days with Hunter bites your legs and Bremner the enforcers. The Daily Mail a few days later stated”Footballers who throw their fists at each other are symbolically licensing violence”. Both players were suspended for 11 games and fined £500 which was quite a substantial amount in those days.

Alternatively, bring in a psychologist to resolve their lack of belief problem. I am sure other posters have also praised the team.

Rowe was industrious and a good link up with Iwobi and co. Give him his dues i think Pereira had one of his better games and he did contribute an assist from a corner for one of our goals and we got to give him that one. Pereira was busy from the halfway line and linked up well with everyone. We would all like to see him connect a lot more with corners and assist and you got to admit that he was unlucky with a quality shot that hit the crossbar, that was a good one. Muniz? Why is no one talking about him and what a goal, it was top quality, whats wrong with you guys? Give credit where its due i say. I thought we had good manners etiquette and decorum. We don't want to get like that no class Brentford lot down the road guys. I also want to say a well done to our forgotten man Sessegnon and i think he should get a lot more games. Hereally has muscled out and he looks stronger and harder to shake off the ball. I always forget Sessegnon is here when i moan about recruitment. They also played a lot of kids so the comparison was not correct. I agree however there is a huge class gap between 9th in the Championship and 9th in the Premier League. We played a team with a few reserves in it, but it did not weaken it at all. Our under 21s and our under 18s are doing very well so even if we played dome of our best children we would probably have won but Marco wanted to be sure we won showing he would like to win the FA Cup.

I’m afraid, in my opinion, he is not effective enough and doesn’t deliver quality into and around the box. Everyone was scared of losing Paulinho, but hasn’t been missed and isn’t taking Germany by storm. (Maybe suspended…). I would probably try and hang onto Muniz as I think he shows some potential, but would definitely elbow Vinicious as completely ineffective. Why we ever got him I don’t know. Agree a new forward/goal scorer is desperately needed, but not many available at our price range. Need to be proactive and not another short term loan deal.

Sadly this is not enough to keep him because we have both Berge and Lukic and one of them can take on that role when both fit. What happens when we push Pereira further up again, will he score goals, do more assists and be more effective from dead balls and corner kicks? I have my doubts. Man Utd will have a fire-sale and there are a host of players that for various reasons fade away and don't reach top potential and their sale price is over-inflated. Has anyone heard about Anthony Martial? Yes i ask to sign him in my desperation for Fulham to have a back up striker but i haven't heard anything about Martial after utd. The problem with Muniz is his inexperience and he still hasn't learnt the nous or the art of being in the right place and right time a striker needs to arrive in the box properly. It is not all negative and there is a lot he can improve on and all is not lost. I suspect that Muniz would fit into the Arsenal set-up and score more goals because there are more like-minded players around him that can play pass football better than most and he would fit into that system. Muniz is a work in progress and it would be a gamble to get rid and replace for like in January, show me a striker that will get 20 the rest of the season.

I get that a lot. Sometimes I just give up, and then when I look at the site later, there my posting is. I want to mention Notts Forest, I watched tonight's game against Wolves, who they thumped 3-0. In my opinion, we are a far better football team than Forest, and we should be comfortably sitting where they are in the table. The only difference between us is that they beat teams down at the bottom of the table, and for some quite unbelievable reason, we just can't. Why ?

Goals from corners, Goals from free kicks,missing penalties, ( Perrera) goals like these change games and suddenly you are the front foot. Effective wide players, not full backs taking up wide areas, who score goals and can go past people, drive the opposition back 5 yards as Hudson-Odoi did last night, picking a pass, instead of lobbing the ball in to an area for 6ft6in centre backs to head away or the goalkeeper to claim. How many times do we see second ball around the oppo's penalty area actually won, this is when teams break on us. Saying all this we are unbeaten for a long time and play a lot of good stuff. We have a player Traore who can play wide, with great pace, who is not included, and frankly looks pretty disinterested, such a shame Silva is unable to get a tune out of him. As we all know interpretation of the rules is now outside of the pitch, and VARY from week to week. Serious foul play by Cairney or serious foul play against Robinson can be treated differently. The game has changed completely, offsides, handball, backpass, penalties. The media want goals to sell there packages, all the changes seem to favour this with forwards falling at the slightest touch. In other words cheating, including our team.

I like Cairney but he won't keep that level of play up that we need every week for 90 minutes and Cairney being the passing type we might need to go into the market and we will see if Marco thinks so? Smith Rowe is fresh from injury and he will need to step up to the plate and he will know that. Palinha came in and stepped up nd there was interest for him and he got his big move. Smith Rowe will know that his performance is not good enough for the bigger clubs to take notice and try to steal him with a cheeky offer. It's up to Smith Rowe and the position he plays is near Jimenez or Muniz and he will have to find ways of connecting with these target men...

Ok, I’ll try and help. The reason I think that we play three at the back is to support Castagne. Playing a flat back four is fine for Robinson and Tete because they are fast enough and have enough stamina to get up and back all game however, Castagne struggles doing that for a whole game so we play wing backs with the right side covered by Diop. It worked against Chelsea and Bournemouth and to some extent against Ipswich. When we switched to a flat back four yesterday we dropped pace in transition. Just a point of note though Bish, have you seen how many goals Raúl has scored this season? Ipswich played well, were on a bounce from beating our noisy neighbours and had a bit of luck. Bassey was unlucky not to hoof the ball upfield but slipped at the wrong time.

Bassey was instrumental for both instances for their first goal, heading into our crossbar then flapping at the clearance as well as diverting shot past Leno. Not fully sure about 3 centre halves at home, but very difficult to drop any off them at 5he moment. Diop has really stepped up and contributed to the cause. Need to sell on Vinicious and Perrera and buy/loan someone who knows where the goal is, Jiminez and Muniz try very hard but lack killer instinct. Not sure where we will get one from???

He can only feed ball to players in the best position he could find. The issue yesterday is the formation. Robinson isn’t a Nelson or Willian so we shouldn’t play him in that position and as a result we lost the his effectiveness. The worrying part for me is all our defenders have made stupid mistakes in the last few games. Thought we got rid of that calamity! Marco needs to sort that out!! But don’t blame Cairney.btw Wilson probably ran more meters than anyone else on the pitch.

I so agree that Cairney is no, longer a 90 minute player, although he is still a very good one, and he is still a very important part of our squad, and I will leave it to Marco's inside knowledge as how to use him. Harry however, is a different kettle of fish, as in my humble opinion, he should play in every game, from the start, unless not completely fit or injured. Harry can conjure a goal out of any situation, and he was so unlucky to have been brought down yesterday when about to score, in which could have been a red card by some referees. I'm pleased it wasn't as we would have probably have won with no credit. I do think however, that Troare should have been brought on earlier, as h frightens the life out of any club, and should definitely start against Watford. Yes we, could be having a better season, but still being in the top 10, is still an achievement, and that is only so far.

posted by Ipotombi (Guest) - Monday 06th January 2025, 11:36 AM Sadly, I think you are making the same mistake that some people do with Pereira in that they are not playing in the position that we have been used to. They are both being asked to play deeper, win balls before the ball gets in our own half and then pick a pass. Cairney did this exceptionally well yesterday and Pereira has also played well in the position. My only caveat with Pereira is that he has little dead ball skill and should be taken off set pieces. Other than that, like Cairney, he is a work horse and has been invaluable in that position when we are unable to play Lukic and Berge together (our best mid-centre pairing). Even though Cairney had a good 60 minutes, I would possible have played Iwobi on the other flank as they tended to get in each others way occasionally. What do we know though!

There was lots wrong with that passage of play; Lukic was out of position and Andersen got wrong side and is too slow to react so don’t just blame Diop. In terms of “the technical stuff” I’m sorry to say that that is nonsense, we pass out of defence really well and have conceded very few doing that. Also, did you see Cairney’s pass in the same game? Utter class!!

posted by The Time Is Now - Thursday 02nd January 2025, 8:05 AM MST, I don’t often disagree with you, but I disagree when you state “Diop’s pass was intercepted “ the fact is Diop passed direct to a unmarked Bournemouth player, what followed is now history. I have seen Diop play for Fulham since his transfer from West Ham,he is at best a stopper, his distribution is poor, mostly takes the easy option by passing back or sideways, and last but not least, he can be found marking fresh air on many occasions.
posted by JRD (Guest) - Thursday 02nd January 2025, 8:56 AM MST, I have to agree with JRD, Diop caused us to drop those 2 points against Bournemouth, with a dreadful pass, and I also thought that he was also responsible for their first goal as well. However, and of course it's far too late now, Bernd Leno, should have kicked the ball well into the Bournemouth half, as far away from our goal, as possible then this equalizer would never have happened. Maybe, Just maybe, we will have learnt our lesson, by once again throwing away two points, with stupid errors near the end, when we are in the lead.

Bassey as a central defender came across leaving his left sided position. We will see if Marco continues with his current system, with 3 central defenders and two wide wing backs. Personally I prefer a back four as Robinson can do both jobs, with his ability to get up and down the pitch. Hope Lukic Berg combination is available Sunday

They are not Arsenal and personally i want to see a lot more of us going forward. I am looking forward to seeing Smith Rowe back in action and hopefully this is a game that will suit him and he can come out and express himself.
posted by OWEN - Thursday 02nd January 2025, 11:44 PM We were controlling the game until the mistake was made, but everyone was making mistakes that could of cost the game apart from Cairney when he came on oozing class and steadiness, not surprising that he won the man of the match for his 25 minutes. It is rare for a substitute to be MOTHM.
posted by The Time Is Now - Friday 03rd January 2025, 10:28 AM Lukic showed us all his ability to get forward with a pass leading to the winning goal, Berg also has scored goals and been much more of an attacking threat when playing for former clubs. Silva when playing three at the back, is reverting to a 3-4-3 with both full backs essentially wide operating in the midfield,to be effective, you need ball winners who can play. These to playing together can fit into any system, especially with Cairney, still able to show his class as a substitute replacement. Pererra does not win enough ball and is wasteful on release. He really must be a better player than recently he has shown, We know that he has indicated that pastures elsewhere would suit him. or ne might stay. With the injuries we have he is being shoehorned into the team, our results improve when he is not on the pitch.
