I hope the FA or even the government look at ways to control inflation on player valuation. It’s crazy Josh King hasn’t scored a goal in 12 games, and frankly hasn’t scored many in the last few years, want 120k a week. Norwich want £50m for a championship player. Ozil earned about 50m in the last 3 years and started in less than 50games. Only way to control this is government taxing the premier league heavily so the reward for playing in the premier league is not as high. These obscene amount must be stopped as the country will come to terms with another austerity soon.

We are playing BHA and WBA away. Those two games are crucial for our survival and i think we should rest our starting XI for the cup game against Burnley.
Replies
I couldn't agree more, as we will need our strongest sides against WBA and Brighton, because if we lost both of these games it would almost certainly mean a quick to return to the Championship next season. Robinson, unfortunately will miss both matches, but Bobby Reid will only miss tomorrow's match against United.

Hi Guys I’m sure we all agree the attitude effort over our last 5 draws shows some progress but we will get relegated if we simply rely on draws no matter who we play. It is absolutely clear to all of us Cavalero Decora Reid and others trying to score won’t happen. Great defensively we’ve got really much better but without quality up front we will drop. So why no search for strikers? For me get someone with pace quality played in the premier and we may have a chance. DamarI Gray at Leicester very good but out of favour so let’s go for him. Any others will assist but not Dwight Gale or lower rankings. We always choose the wrong players with Khan so maybe nothing will ever change.
Replies
Last transfer window we bought well, let’s hope we do it again this time. We definitely need a striker, Gray is a decent player but he is a winger. Out and out striker for me. Majority of posters on here think we need a striker, not many of us know who though. Looking at the posts on what type of player we require would be, fast, good goal scoring record, fit, can hold the ball up, experienced in the top flight, good in the air, not to old and not to expensive. Not an easy job but if we want to survive we have to find one.

Not possible Gaz, sounds like Harry Kane.Be nice if we could prise Ayew from Roy at Palace. Clever player suit Fulhams style scores a few works hard. Still think Gayle would be a good fit to the Fulham style as well. Lower level striker comes with risks, foreign league strikers would probably have to isolate and would they be an improvement on what we have.
posted by denny (Guest) - Monday 18th January 2021, 4:44 PM

Really difficult Denny, my only problem with Gayle is the injury issue, he has had quite a bit of bad luck during his career. I suppose anyone can get an injury though. Agree with you about a foreign player but it’s looking like we may have to go down that road, which may be a bit late taking into consideration the self isolation rules. I would imagine that striker prices will rise due to a shortage of them. Ayew is a suggestion if Roy allows it.

Despite our good run of draws against top teams and even a great win at Leicester, we seem to be permanently stuck 3rd from the bottom of the table, while inferior teams above us, such as Brighton and Burnley seem to be picking up points to keep them safe from the dreaded drop. It seems that we have any luck that's on offer goes against us, like having three very unfair penalties given against costing us 6 points, and even missing them which have been vital as well, so all in all we seem to be just running on the spot getting nowhere, so I am beginning to wonder whether our great efforts will end with us returning to the Championship in May, which will be very unfair.
Replies
We need a run of wins, perhaps after we have played the division leaders, I recon we need to win a least half of the remaining games. If we can beat all the teams just above us in the table and few others a little further away we will make. It is far from easy but Scott has got a playing well but we do not need our best players get three match bans to often or lost of injuries. Magicking up a mobile and prolific striker would make is so much easier, but as every team in the Premier League is struggling to score the competition will be as hot as it gets. I believe in Scott Parker but he and the team will need to give everything they have and more, if we are going to stay up.
posted by The Time Is Now - Monday 18th January 2021, 12:48 PM

Getting 1 point from the first 18 available as a start is what we need to make up and why we are where we are in the table. To stay up in a normal season you need about 35 points. We have 12 points now so we need to get 23 points from the 21 games left, put another way we need 23 point from a potential 63 points. We have picked up 11 points from the last 11 games, maintain that rate we will be close to survival.

Scott's overall managerial win ratio is 41% which is decent but only 18% in the PL which does not bode well.

As Mitro was not even on the bench on Saturday, he must be either injured still, or is slowly recovering from the virus, because not even Scotty would leave a fit Mitro off of the bench if he was available. I just wish that the club would put us in the picture with regard to the situation involving Mitro, as we really need him in our team now, and if not, we want to know the reason why.

AC I agree 100% Fulham need to let us know what is the problem with Mitro!! our only recognised Striker. And to the to fat & slow brigade he knows how to score GOALS!!! Which we lack...
posted by Will (Guest) - Monday 18th January 2021, 10:51 AM

The point is Will, that without a playmaker in the team to work that ball through the midfield to his feet, he will be ineffective except for set pieces floated into the box.

We play fast counter attacking football down the wings now and the game will pass him by. This is why he was not effective at Newcastle and why they let him go.

How many teams with young modern managers play with an old fashioned number nine these days? It is only Warnock, Allardyce and the like that still persevere with this way of playing. If the game and the tactics did not develop and move on, we would still be playing a 2-3-5 formation.

Personally, I like the way we play now. We are more solid in defence and more exciting to watch. Mitro will slow us down and is like sacrificing a player when he plays as he is not mobile enough. Asa previously indicated, we need a mobile false number nine who can take the ball on the run and keep up with the wingers. Someone in the style of Salah for example.

posted by MST (Moderator) - Monday 18th January 2021, 11:37 AM

MST, oh for the days of 2-3-5 which I could understand,as todays formations have me baffled at times, in fact all of the time. When commentators say that they say that the team have changed their formations from one set of numbers like 4-4-2 to 5-2-3 and such like, I must be honest and say that I can't tell one set of numbers from the other, there are 10 v 10 outfield players as far as I am concerned, maybe my old brain can't work it out. However I do agree with AC and Will, inasmuch that Mitro should be in our line up, if we don't sign another striker pronto, and even if we do he should be way ahead of Kamara. You don't score 26 goals in one season, and then suddenly become a bad player, especially as to a certain extent he still has youth on his side. Hands up all of those who think he should be playing.
posted by Malden Mick (Guest) - Monday 18th January 2021, 11:56 AM

To be honest Mitro will score goals if he is told to play in the final third of the pitch. He is very good at defending corners and set pieces, if we win the ball from a corner against us and the ball is played out wide Mitro can’t catch up. Get him a strike partner and he will produce. Cav and Kamara are not the answer.

I’m not willing to give up on him. He has been setting up goals when he’s played, a far better option than Cav or RLC. Bobby Reid benefits from his ability to draw both central defenders. The change in system has made us more counterattacking — too counterattacking probably. Anguissa and Harrison Reed are ball winners, not creators. We are missing TC for his passing and vision. If we swap TC/Mitro for Cav/RLC we will score more.

Lacks sufficient mobility for the system we are playing. It his own fault for allowing himself to get so unfit.

Patrick Schick is still only 24 and possibly still has his best scoring years to come yet? If we go in for the more obvious and proven 15-20 goal strikers, we will have competition and over-priced players because 2 or 3 clubs join the bidding. Our best hope is to go for someone like Schick also because he will possibly link up with Cavaliero and Lookman etc, which might or might not help us with goals. We as a club must take chances on players that have potential like Lookman who some were doubting. Most teams are taking that everyday same risks and the question that comes with it, is can a particular striker score 15-20 goals to save a season? Our best odds 'Time is now' is to gamble on youth for starters? Josh King will no doubt be taken up by some hopeful club, maybe West Brom? King knows that his services are desired by 6 and half dozen clubs, so he will not worry. Josh King falls into the same category as Jack Wiltshire who some poor hopeful soul will gamble on, and we know all about Jack Wiltshires fitness problems throughout his footballing career. My advice would be to leave Josh King and the likes well alone and gamble on a 24 years and 6ft 2 inch Patrick Schick? If Schick hads a much better goal record, we wouldn't get him, its as simple as...

Fulham should hijack Moussa Dembele's transfer to Athletico Madrid. At £25.65 million ( £28.4 Mill Euros) he's worth every penny. We could get our money back by flogging Mitrovic back to some Championship side, where he's a good at scoring goals. Fulham FC were promoted when they least expected to be but management seem to be half hearted at staying in the Premiership.

Results didn't go our way this weekend, and we need to change something or try something different to get goals. There are 2 winnable games against Brighton and West Brom to end January, but they won't be easy. Both these teams are starting to wake up and smell the coffee, so we will need to maintain our form to the level we are at now. I am assuming that any new strikers will not hit the ground running, so we need to change something. One old party-trick we could try, is to introduce Mitrovic back into the battle along with Joe Bryan who is most likely to feature while Robinson takes his holiday. Cavaliero is looking a lot sharper and he gifted us a goal against Spurs, but it is plain to see from his miss against Chelsea, that he isn't an out and out proper striker and Bobby Reid is trying but he is just too light-weight in my opinion. Kamara, we don't want to risk slotting him into a more central spot upfront, but we still have Kebano who is worth a risk? Kebano is not the tallest player out there but maybe a link-up with Mitrovic in the central spot could reap dividends. The headache will be 'who do we drop? How do we shuffle Lookman, Reid, etc? This is why we are not managers, and it is a puzzle for Scott Parker. Fulham are playing really well these days, and we look like we belong in this league. Our problem is that we have wasted and blown too many chances for more points, and we don't score enough goals. So in the grand scheme of things, being proud and happy-clappy, doesn't change a thing. More goals please Scotty' we can do it' please use more of our squad...
Replies
I think he is justified in his pride as we were playing well until the sending off and he must have pride that the only goal we scored came from the only bad defensive mistake we made. Even if we had this wonderful striker there is no guarantee the good chances would fall to him.

I am going to be critical on Khan junior but before I do so, I have to say when he wanted to do a good job, he did a really good job in the last transfer window. Whether it was him or his team, bringing in Lookman, Andersen, adebayo, Robinson and Aina have been fantastic and worth a massive pay on the back. Now the bad bits. He hasn’t been in UK since Feb last year. That’s a whole year. Yes with Covid etc I can appreciate it isn’t easy and sometimes not encouraged. But he’s got a private plane so it’s about his priority. On the subject of priority, if you look at Khans Twitter account, for every post he makes on Fulham, he would made 5 or 6 posts on wrestling. Perhaps that reflects he’s attention on Fulham - about 15-20%! Fulham in premier league deserves more than that! Let’s hope he leaves sometime in his busy schedule to fund us a couple of strikers in the next couple of weeks! This is work he should have done in September!
Replies
We all agree that we need strikers, Scott Parker knows he needs strikers and it is Khan who closes the deal. Are there any top strikers about at the moment? I can’t find many. With regard to Twitter, that is a ridiculous comment. If you are that bothered Tweet him.

Perfect fit for us, age 24, 6ft 2inch, and under the radar. 46 Goals in 172 appearances will not attract too much attention. One important detail was that Schlick featured in one loan season for Leipzig where Lookman came from. Someone asked me the question lately, 'why did Everton let go of Lookman? Fulham has always recruited these flawed gems dating back to George Best and Rodney Marsh etc. Okay' i admit they were more towards the end of their careers. The acquisition of Patrik Schlick may flick a lightbulb to Cavaliero and Reidy upfront? Sometimes the attention needs to be diverted or carried by someone more focal to bring out the best in our other guys. This is our problem at Fulham, and the likes of Cav, Lookman, and Reid need a load taken off them to shine. Schlick at age 24 might have the best years to come yet? I say' get him on board, we have nothing to lose in my opinion...

Maybey the answer to these questions lends to the fact 46 goals 172 games not good stats for a striker in Europe even worse for a Team lower reaches of prem where his chances would presumably be very limited

With the FA saying that players must not hug after a goal is scored. Have any of them ever watched modern football. There are usually more times that players are hugging when a corner is about to be taken, than when a goal is scored. will they next require players to be two metres apart when the ball is kicked..

Not sure why you’re raising this point here; excess hugging would be a nice problem for our club to face at a time when goals are hard to come by

In my opinion, having refereed for 30 years, the red card was fully justified. The tackle was reckless, dangerous and could have caused injury. My problem is why Robinson committed the foul when the ball was at least 20 yards inside the Chelsea half and 1 minute left to half-time. I believe he was incensed by a foul being committed on another Fulham player who was being held back by a Chelsea defender for which the referee did not award Fulham a free kick. This does not excuse Robinson who let down his manager and team mates. Parker had organised a well balanced team which was holding its own against Chelsea and should have been ahead. After the dismissal, I consider the manager should have made substitutions earlier in order to replace tired legs.

As we were defending well, and trying to play on the break, I was hoping Joe Brian and Abu would come on at half time.

We have an old fashioned centre forward in Mitro. It doesn't suit our style of play anymore. what we need in my opinion is a mobile false number nine in the style of Salah.

We didn't need Bryan earlier because it was all about absorbing pressure and hitting their tired legs on the break late in the game.

Personally, I thought it was a tremendous effort and we were unlucky in the end not to salvage a point. I think we would have done with 11 men on the pitch.

This is a pivotal part in our season with Robinson out for a few games. I expect Bryan will have his opportunity to fill in for Robinson. I just hope that we don't revert back to type like the old guard of ream, Bryan and Odoi, etc? We are hoping that Joe Bryan is played further up the pitch? Because it could be a disaster if he is called upon for defensive duties. Bryan will be able to maintain those balls coming in for our forwards for sure. I am not too convinced that he can add any more to his game than Robinson? Robinson is slightly pacier and just a little bit more street-wise on the pitch, but that is just my opinion. My overall point is that results did not go our way and it is imperative that we pick up points asap. Any calamities or mistakes at this point of the season will put us more in the bog-heap. Our hard to beat mentality must be maintained throughout this period. Nuff said!!!

Fulham FC have turned a corner. Our result against Tottenham Hotspur was good considering the gulf in class and standard of players - think how many English international were playing for Spurs. Now against Chelsea FC despite the sending off we put up a good show until tiredness caught up with our side. The real culprits for this result is the FA making FFC play Spurs with 48 Hours notice. I agree totally with our Manager Stewpot that it was unforgivable and makes me blood boil!
Replies
With a full eleven, there no reason that we can't take a point or more from United on Wednesday, who will be having a hard game themselves this afternoon. We then have a fairly unimportant cup match on Saturday, so we can rest our main players, for the big games which will follow against Brighton, who still haven't won a home game this season and WBA, who are pretty moderate, and after which, we will really know where we stand in avoiding the drop this season.

I can’t help but wonder that if you can instruct the linos to not pop the flag until the move is complete, to prevent errors from negating fair goals through Var confirmation, can you not apply the same theory to the center. Why apply the nuclear option, a red card, immediately and ruin the integrity of the match? Give a caution then let VAR have a look where you would have seen Robinson didn’t lead with his studs, the contact was minimal and was made with his trail leg, and the aggrieved made a complete meal of it. Live action it looked a lot worse than it was I grant you. But that’s what VAR is supposed to rectify. I’ve never seen VAR downgrade a red card in match. It always happens post match as it applies to suspension. So glad I left the profession a few years back. It just gets worse and worse. So gutted today. We deserved better. Gaps opening between us and safety. Can we get a break just once.
Replies
It is the force and the aggression of the tackle that got him sent off. The contact is not relevant it is the intent and that could have seriously damaged a player. Dangerous play is a red card offence as it is a player protection measure.
posted by The Time Is Now - Sunday 17th January 2021, 8:15 AM

Didn't the victim of Robinson's tackle do something similar in added time and receive only a yellow. Where's the consistency ? The ref should have asked VAR for assistance and watched the incident on his screen before brandishing the red card and perhaps the correct decision would have been reached.

We will only be cut adrift, if we lose to WBA, Brighton and Burnley, which is unlikely to happen, hopefully. Some pundits are saying that WBA now have a chance of avoiding the drop, but they are still a point behind us, and we have a game in hand, and we are a miles better team than them, so with more than half the season to play, we will not be cut adrift just yet.

We probably need to win half of our remaining fixtures to stay up. That is possible but far from easy. It is difficult to stay up if you come up through the playoffs and even more difficult this season with the compressed season. We have to overcome our results with that very ordinary team we came up with. So far Parker is performing miracles and we must pray his divine influence grows to redemption.

So right. Any word on Lemina? Injured or Covid? His latch match played was the best individual performance of the season for me. Need him back.

Robison is our best player of course we will miss him. Before the sending off we were worrying Chelsea and could have sneaked it. A really mobile finisher would make that team so much better.

Agree absolutely about Robinson Time is now. Bryan has big boots to fill. Joe Bryan is good going forward, but he can be a liability defending. I hope he has put some time on working on defensive duties? It is an open secret that our present Fulham defence is hard to breech.

Yes we are going to miss Bobby Reid and Robinson, but we have the reliable Bryan, and RLC would probably have played instead of Bobby anyway, so Robinson apart it's basically a full strength side to face Manure United.

Apart from the obvious disappointment, We looked a yard slow, obviously the Covid and Spurs game took its toll out the players. Concerned with Anguissa he appears to struggling right now, maybe the after effects of Covid ? Really need Leminar, Cairney and Mitro back in the squad asap. Kongolo injured again ? Unbelievable ! Bad day at the office today but the real test has to be WBA and Brighton games, surely our bad luck with injuries will be over by then !

Cav has to bury that easy chance, Robinson can’t make that tackle in the attacking third, and Parker needed to make those changes to freshen ten minutes earlier. Aina was out of gas, Joe Bryan was needed sooner, Abou was needed sooner to threaten. This could have been a draw. Should have been a draw. Even with two of these mistakes. A real shame bc the performance and effort was 100% there.

Alright we might lose our keeper,Lookman(unless we sign him now)RLC and Andersen but thats about it, and Rodak is an outstanding Championship goalkeeper, so we would be very hot favourites to win the Championship title with this team. However its not going to happen, please don't get downhearted after one extremely unlucky defeat.

Let's be honest, this was not a game that we would be expecting to get points from, and the same of Manchester United on Wednesday, and we would have got at least a point if Robinson had not been sent off, so all is not bad and everyone can see how good we are becoming, and we have not even reached half way through the season yet, and we will improve in leaps and bounds in the 2nd half of the season, providing of course that we either get another striker, or Mitro recovers from injury, and starts scoring again.

We’ve been crying out fir a decent forward last 6 games , why not now in the transfer market. Shame as draws will not keep us up especially as West Brom Brighton Sheffield ü suddenly winning. After reading the first few posts the tsunami broke and I finally cried bitter tears, many many bitter tears. I really needed that to move on and I can't thank you all enough. Vin, you couldn't have known that on musical evenings I'd drag out an old Fender bass and muller it to various CDs while Edie impersonated a singer. Strangely, the more we drank the better we got. Our favorite concert was "Concert for George" at the Albert Hall, the last song of which was Joe Brown and "I'll see you in my dreams". Edie always cried and we hugged, probably because she was happy I'd stopped playing. We are a family team. I will be alone up here but as long as you reprobate bastards are around I'll never be lonely. Brothers in arms indeed; I love you all.

I am playing devil's advocate here with this question. Who will turn out or make the better manager out of Parker, Lampard, or Solskjaer? To quickly cut through the techno-jargon, i will give my reasonings for Scott Parker coming out on top of the 3. Firstly here is a beautiful quote from 'Theodore Roosevelt' 'Do what you can, with what you have, where you are. Scott Parker is learning his trade and cutting his cloth with very limited resources compared to Lampard and Solskjaer who have a world of talent at their disposal. Utd and Solskjaer have Bruno Fernandez, Cavani, and a world cup winner in Paul Pogba to work with, and not to mention other vast talents. Pogba love him or hate him, he is, without doubt, the best passer of a football there is in these modern times. If there is any doubt, just watch how Pogba orchestrates France to win the last world cup. If Pogba isn't doing it for utd, it is down to bad management. Lampard and Chelsea have Timo Werner, Kante, and Christian Pulisic who is brilliant, not to mention the vast array of talent Chelsea have. Pulisic is a boy genius and basically brilliant, again watch his videos. I will pick 3 from Scott Parker's selections, but i want to cause even more controversy with my last name here, and for very good reasons. Anguissa is in my opinion our heart beat and engine driver through the midfield, and first picks. Arguably, Anguissa can fit into most teams oporating in the premiership so in many ways, it is an easy one for Scotty. Mitrovic is my 2nd pick because Mitrovic is now proving a complex character, but Parker is persevering with him. Scott Parker is learning the fine art of management and it is a puzzle to us fans why he would continue with Mitrovic. I could name 6 and a dozen players like Dele Ali, Danny Rose, etc who are talented but for reasons unknown to us, they don't feature for their clubs. Back to Fulham, Anguissa was hopeless the first time around, and we the fans were mystified when he came back. The only hint of a clue about Anguissa was his Villa-Real form which you could take it or leave it. How many videos of form from the continent off y-tube can actually tell you a player's form will hold up in the premiership? We should give Parker credit for inviting him back. My last pick is 'Kamara' because he is our most controversial player at Fulham 'ever'. Again Parker likes Kamara, to the disappointment of 'er' 99 1/2 percent of fans. Kamara is no better than a local park player' Kamara is useless and so on. I doubt that Lampard or Solstjaer would even entertain Kamara to clean boots yet Scott Parker is 100% behind Kamara to the bemusement of most fans. Scott Parker is learning about management in the most difficult of circumstances. For instance, our chairman is not the type to throw money around for top players, at least not this time around. Chairman Khan also wants to get bang for his bucks from Mitrovic, Kamara, or whoever Parker keeps hold on. Is this the proper way how to learn about management? Put things another way, who is now under more pressure to succeed from these 3 mentioned? Scott Parker can sleep the most soundly knowing that he is limited to who he has at his disposal. Lampard and Solskjaer cannot have any excuse with the vast ray of talent they have whatsoever. I doubt very seriously that lampard and Solskjaer can even understand or get the best from their foreign contingency. Scott Parker is the more patient and easy to work with manager to work with, and he will get the best from Mitrovic once again. This is why Scott Parker will eventually become the England Manager we are crying out for after Sir Alfred Ernest Ramsey. And here ended another quote from Theodore Roosevelt' 'Keep your eye on the stars, and your feet on the ground. That quote sums up Scott Parker, and he sure does not have anywhere near the vast talents that Lampard and Solskjaer have to work with, or even any compared to Liverpool or Man City...

Sorry Owen, I feel I have to reply, Kamara against Spurs, failed to take the ball with him, when he had a chance of breaking free of defenders, failed to get his head up, to put Lookman through on goal, instead running into a blind alley. He just does not have the basics you need to be a professional footballer at this level. It is not enough to run onto balls played over the top with quality defenders. Next time he plays watch his abilities, could not believe in one match when he came on as right wing back. Perhaps this is why we only have Mitrovic as a central striker, Kamara is the backup, if Parker really thought he was up to it, why is Cavaliero playing there. Kamara is the management buy, that is always included. It is not possible for him to be in the 25 man squad in a top flight team, but he will be.

Good points taken on board guys' and i agree that Kamara needs improvements in his overall game. I used Kamara basically because Scott Parker is working out the soccer puzzles combined with players not up to the same standards and qualities that Lampard and Solksjaer have at their disposal. This is why i put Scott Parker above these other two managers who have all the gifted talent known possible in the modern game. Scott Parker is learning his trade with the basic bare-bones, and he must grind out results with the likes of Kamara like it or lump it. Denny' we can analyze more players like Reidy who do not necessary look up before they shoot, or take shots directly at goalkeeper instead of placing it in corners etc. Bobby Reid has more opportunity and game-time each week and he misses more on percentage than Kamara. My point is not about players abilities whatsoever, Scott Parker really needs the points to keep Fulham up with players of limited abilities if that makes sense and this will add to his growing experience to be a top manager. Scotty loves the game and he is learning more each week and even his interviews are getting better. Scotty thinks that our Fulham team are confident to get results from any team we play now. Not bad a turnaround and with limited resources and player abilities, it is more remarkable a job he is doing. It might be too early to compare Parker to Alf Ramsey, but i think you guys will get my drift.
