Running through the transfer posts, it appears we are dithering again reminiscent of 2 seasons ago. Pope Tarkowski Targett, even beaten by Notts Forest on Henderson, Brentford the whipping boys by many of our supporters have beaten Arsenal & West Ham by paying 15m for Bologna Scottish left back and an attacking midfielder from PSJ for 12m & still have the possibility of signing Erickson. Or are we awaiting A & E reports from our chief {clown scout) Talbot.

It now appears we are the bookies favourite for relegation, surpassing Leeds Brentford And Notts F

Perhaps it's time we concentrated on our own interests and let other countries rule over their citizens as they see fit. As long as they don't export their issues to this country it's not our problem anymore. We are no longer a colonial power at the popular request of these nations. Or are you suggesting we deploy gunboats and give Johnny Foreigner a bloody nose?

Quite right Paddy. Our era of power and influence has long since waned and it is time to let others resolve their issues. I am nopt including Ukraine in this as they deserve all the support they can muster.

Why do we need him when we still have Terrence Kongolo. If you think kongolo’s injury is bad, just look at Bailey’s history in the last 4 years!! Seriously, he might be a good player but with him taking up a place, we will play more games with Ream than not.
Replies
Think the difference is that Bailly's injuries have come during games, something Kongolo can't be accused of. I can't remember ever seeing Kongolo play one. Think you'll find several times Bailly has been rushed back and the coaching staff have had issues restraining him after lay offs. Again something Kongolo can't be accused of. Maybe signing him on loan and partnering him with Ream might be worth taking a chance. Bailly prefers right side of the defence and Ream the left. Bailly can also play right back and has been used in midfield now and again. Kongolo also tends to prefer the left side of defence do more likely be cover for Ream. You rarely get two left footed centre halves in a rean together anyway.

I could be wrong but think Kongolo has played twice for us and got injured in the first 20 minutes of each. Not what you call a good investment. We have one PL quality centre back so we must sign three. Two right sided two left sided.

I am getting concerned about rumours surrounding Marco's eminent departure, from Fulham, due to our lack of signings, and if there is any substance in these rumours and he does leave, then despite my great affection for this club, I will lose complete interest, and I will seriously think about watching Wimbledon or Sutton, with no high expectations.
posted by Malden Mick (Guest) - Saturday 02nd July 2022, 8:57 PM

MM I know how you feel, and although I have not heard any rumours about Marco leaving, if the situation arises, that he does not get the backing of the board to sign new squad players, or alternatively that players just not want to join us under any circumstances, then what would be the point of him carrying on, and he might well call it a day. If, and it's a big if, that did happen, then my ST, will be ending up in the dustbin. I find it difficult to believe that lesser clubs like Bournemouth and Notts Forest, are already way ahead of us with their signings, its oh so disappointing.

We have just two lads capable of keeping us up next season - Kenny Tete and Tosin Aadarabioyo, this means we will need to find 5 more if we are to have sufficent cover. What about Johnny Brooks, played in the German league last year (he is 29?), William RB or RMF (27), Jannes Horn (25) German league Left Back, Mads Pedersen LB playing for Ausburg in Germany. I'd even give Gary Cahill a call, although totally over the top he has experience and could organise our defence. Released by C Palace. We have one capable goal keeper Marek Rodak. We could pick up Stefan Ortega released from Manchester City (29) or even Hugo Louris from Spurs? Why are our Management looking in all the wrong places, South America, Africa and southern Europe? We play in northern Europe!

You lot have very short memories, it was Parkers toothless tactics up front (9 goals at home) that got us relegated. Marco Silva will not fall into that negative trap.

It was also Parker’s tactics that won at Liverpool and Everton and Leicester and get honourable away draws at Spurs and Arsenal if we manage that under Silva we will be doing very well
posted by Scout (Guest) - Saturday 02nd July 2022, 2:42 PM

Good point Scout and too many drawn games got us relegated. It was Parker's rookie season as a manager and we can argue that a more experienced manager in at the time would have kept us up. Another reason we were relegated was the volume of missed penalties after the Lookman disaster of a penalty. Fulham in my opinion was not even the 3rd worst team to go down in that period. Goalkeeper errors and defensive lapses played a part but every team is just as guilty on that one. Our failures to put away golden chances on a plate was also a factor. Prem games are run on very fine margins on hit and miss and we so cannot get away with misses and the other factors that account for points. To me this term looks a strong one and most teams will be strong. By the looks of it, Brentford are not only looking to survive for a 2nd time, they are also building for the future. Fulham must discover a hardness and resilience again just to even put roots down this time around. Lessons have to be learned from our last venture in the Championship. For example, there are too many missed chances from Bobby Reid and Kebano, etc in front of goal. We got away with it because we were scoring hatfuls but the prem is a different animal. Games against Brentford, Brighton and Forest early on, we can consider them as 6-pointers. I know that is early to look at it that way, but i also think that this year is the toughest for opponents. Lose too many of these games early, and it will be hard to catch up later on. Scott Parker's way of playing for us wasn't that much of a factor if you compare our missed chances on goal, there is not much different to last season. Saying that, Mitrovic was the difference but this team as it is, we still have the same weaknesses, and that is being clinnical in front of goal...

I think she deserves a mention, just for being in the mix for a possible Wimbledon title win, or maybe not going on her past form? Heather is a bit of a puzzle, simply because she has been around the tennis circuit a long time now without winning a major slam. To be fair to the lass, she has endured a painful 2 years of injuries and setbacks. Under the shadow of Raducanu the golden girl of British tennis, maybe this is her year, her moment and her time to come out of the shadows and win Wimbledon just this once. I don't watch a lot of tennis these days because there are no characters like the gobby Macenroe or the hard-hitting Rosco Tanner with the boom-boom serve etc. If ever there was anyone who deserves a big win at Wimbledon, it surely has to be Watson who was within a millimetre from beating Serina Williams. The golden girl Raducanu came in and she conquered and she got the diamonds and everything else the sponsors chucked at her to prove it. Heather Watson winning Wimbledon? It would be like Fulham winning the premier league and all you guys would be in tears. Whatever happens, Heather will give it her best shot and Ernie will be crying tears of joy whatever the result. A Heather Watson Wimbledon win and a successful stint back in the prem for Fulham, is there a connection? I can see all you guys tuning into tennis. 'ER' Don't forget Fulham and transfers......
Replies
Nice girl but she doesn't have the quality to win a major. She will never win a major like Fulham will never win the premier league! But then again, once in a 1000 years you will get a Leicester city and a Raducanu. SO who knows...but I wouldn't bet my coffee money on it. Keep an eye on Gauff!! She's the real deal.

I am still keeping the faith in Marco. It's as we are finding probably not surprising some players are reluctant to come to Fulham. Let's face it,it's not hard to see why. Marco might just have to extract that little bit extra out of our current squad together with some new signings. And he will. As long as we tighten up our defence and give Mitro more support up front,we might just scrape survival next season. Do we have some gems in the reserves? Stansfield ? In Marco I trust.

Do you really think Fulham pulled out because the bidding process might get a bit difficult or out of control? or do you think there are other reasons and the fact Liverpool apparently wanted more money was a blessing in disguise. Gave Fulham the opportunity to pull out. I think we all can agree Neco's body language and celebration after we go promoted, then crowned the champion did not reflect someone who wanted to be around or showed any emotion for the club. If he's attitude at work is similar, while he's played well, I can see Marco having a second thought. I don't think the fact Liverpool said they wanted more money will or should change our desire to get him, if we had wanted him! I personally don't want anyone here who really preferred to be elsewhere. good luck to Forest!
Replies
How do you know we were even involved in the bidding process? Wait for the club to make official announcements and don't believe everything you read in the press. Personally I think Tete is the more all round player in any case and he has more Prem experience - especially when it comes to fighting relegation....

The Khan's are simply not prepared to pay the rate for the job. It begs the question why did they buy the club in the first place? It was not because they wanted to own a successful Premier Football club. They are doing to FFC what Mike Ashley did to Newcastle;. buy players on the cheap and try to sell them for big money. So as I see it we are going to remain a yo-yo club unless they bring in a Director of Football who knows what he is doing! I'm sorry to sound downhearted but the way in which we seem to be losing out in so many of these transfer deals is becoming a bit depressing.

How many of us now regret paying for seasons tickets, for what looks like being another wasted season in the Premier League, and even Brentford supporters will be laughing their heads off, at the way we conduct our transfer, or non transfer business.

will be very disappointing if we don't sign Soloman or Palhina, given they were our top priority and we had time to close the deal. Let's wait and see. could be just agents talk to drum up more interest and a bigger commission. The Khans are business men and they probably operate on principle (which is good) but Football business is so corrupted and wild, as much as you don't like someone coming back asking for more money having agreed a fee, you sometimes have to suck it up and accept it (like in a crazy housing boom to avoid being gazumped). Let's wait an see. But really having already missed the start of the pre-season, don't want to see last minute panic buys this summer!!!

btw if true that Nice have offered a bigger salary, Fulham have to match it otherwise, it will be like the bad start Seri had who felt he was cheated and lost out on a £1m bonus. You don't want to the player to feel he could have earned more. You want him to think he made the best decision possible at the time.

At what point have the club said Solomon and Palhinha are our priority signings …it’s all newspaper , social media speculation .. maybe we should trust our management team and owners .. Marco knows what he needs… and we aren’t the only club trying to sign players .. let’s just wait and see ..

Be realistic in every window each club chases a couple of dozen players, if they are lucky they get 4 or five. Other people are chasing the people we want so may be able to out bid us, that is how it is not inefficiency, we a small fish in a big pond.
posted by The Time Is Now - Thursday 30th June 2022, 12:27 PM

Palhinha would be a key signing and Solomon has been a transfer target for the past six weeks. We are after five or six players, Marco Silva is not able to attract top players unless they are Portuguese and our scouting network is non existent compared to most elite clubs. We will get players but they will be third choice transfers and they will be done late which is not helpful and a couple of loans. Club hasn't learnt lessons we need to pay big money to get first choice selections through the door. And, they have to be the right players.
posted by Scout (Guest) - Thursday 30th June 2022, 12:54 PM

Agree Scout' Palhinha is a key signing because he ticks all the boxes starting in the position we need him to fill. Between Harrison, Cairney, Wilson, Chabolha and co, we look very vulnerable to pace attacks coming through us and i am concerned. It is no time to start pointing fingers on who can or who can't. All i would say is, if we are able to secure the services of Palhinha, it would help Cairney to concentrate on going forward and passing. You mentioned the Portuguese element and connections and i would add that Wolves and their manager are also in the queue for Palhinha. It's not only the dynamics with the agents pushing the fees up, but this extra competition. We just have to hold our hands up and hope Khan is willing to dig even deeper to get these players over the line. We are in the prem now and competition will be fierce...

I took the decision not to renew my season ticket, because I don’t think I love the team Fulham have become. I’m old and enjoyed Fulham from the fifties and even the bad times in the seventies and eighties. I feel the something special that was Fulham has gone. The new ground is what is required for the Club to progress, but to me it’s lost it’s character. The fans I think are different, they reflect the modern sort of standing at away games, and are even getting a reputation for causing trouble. I know it’s me just being sentimental and the team is better off with crowds of 20,000 plus than the few thousands we used to get. The one thing I will always keep is the memories, and of course I’ll always watch them on TV and want them to do well for the new fans. I now await a lot of sarcasm and criticism

Ancient Chris, you’re right, sometimes you think if I only could let it go; but you just can’t shake it off. Laying awake at night after a loss putting them in peril, or laying awake thinking about a big game coming up. And Nigel, you can never replace the atmosphere, but at least watching it on tv you can see the game. As I said it just isn’t the same for me personally

I have lived a long life and seen a lot of change most of it for the good. Fulham has hardly changed at all in that time. I am in the JH stand where the facilities have got worse not better in that time. The toilets being the worst example, horrible. If we are ever going to be a bigger club we more capacity and the new stand is a start. The old Riverside was an ugly monstrosity and the new stand is a big improvement. I cannot see why that would put anyone off going, in fact quite the opposite.

I would understand more if you stated that you were financially stressed or physically unable to attend because of your age. Never played football at any decent level where the team talk is relevant. So probably the last person to be qualified to comment on Marco's pre-match team talk. Anyway, some of you may have also watched the behind the match day scene videos. Marco is a great manager but did you find his talk inspiring, tactical, strategic or a game changer? Do you think it gave the players a clear mindset on what he should/should not do? Is this a normal and typical half-time team talk? Wasn't expecting a Fergie hair dryer to be thrown at players but I thought it was a bit boring. Where's the attack on individuals? Where's the tactical change? I remember there was a video where Parker, agree or not with his strategy, gave a really good passionate tactical assessment. I can only assume all the juicy bits have been cut out.

We saw what he/the club wanted us to see which, in any case, was only a few seconds so I would have thought that there is one for the cameras and one for the team. You've heard the phrase "nothing leaves the changing room" ;0)

Marco's team talks were trite, banal and basic, and if they were just for the camera then it's even worse, surely you want the best for the camera. You should watch the Diego Simeone documentary to see a decent and motivating coach. Marco Silva is certainly no Simeone.

I am sure most of the tactical, motivational and fitness training goes on at Motspur Park. The last minute team talk is just a call for arms stressing the most important lessons they have learned. Whatever he is doing works on the pitch which is all that matters.

...the international transfer window will open and within a very short period of time, I am sure we will get to know Fulham's real intentions (rather than the drivel written in the press and on this board). Personally, I am confident that we will (this time around) make the right choices in our transfer dealings and have a good go at staying up. My only anxiety is, apart from Bournemouth and Forest, I can only really see one other candidate (Brentford) vying with Fulham for 17th place. Leeds maybe if they do not spend well but I really can't see Everton being down there again and Southampton have done a Burnley for years so maybe their time is coming to an end but for sure, it will be a tough season (especially given our run in). Given all of that, I am really looking forward to it and can't wait for the season to start - if we are relegated again then, so be it and I will also look forward to the following season where will likely dominate again ;0).

You need to give it a few games MT before you make any predictions about FFC this season, whoever they buy. Sometimes clubs buy players we've never heard of and they come up trumps. Also, you can buy so-called 'named Players' who couldn't give a toss. We all want Fulham to do well and not struggle. I personally don't want them to go down again, we need to shake off the 'yo-yo' image.

It is weak and pathetic not to strive to test ourselves against the very best. I suggest you read the guidance on the common travel area MT. Which is the right to travel reside, vote, be educated and claim benefits in the UK. Irish citizens currently have this right along with Channel Islands residents. I'm assuming wee Jimmy Krankie will expect Scottish citizens to have these rights too i.e. have their cake and eat it. A change to the common area would save this country billions in needless benefit payments etc.

I think majority of Scot’s dislike English in general but I do still think majority like to stay in Uk. The issue is Nicola sturgeon. She hates the union and she has a personal mission to separate the country. A bit like Farage wanted Brexit. And at the extreme level, Putin will not stop his barbaric attack until he has recreated Soviet Union. When leaders have a personal mission that is divisive, generally it will end with tears and regret.

The United States had provided funding, armaments, and training to South Vietnam’s government and military since Vietnam’s partition into the communist North and the democratic South in 1954. Tensions escalated into armed conflict between the two sides, and in 1961 U.S. President John F. Kennedy chose to expand the military aid program. The terms of this expansion included yet more funding and arms, but a key alteration was the commitment of U.S. soldiers to the region. Kennedy’s expansion stemmed in part from Cold War-era fears about the “domino theory”: if communism took hold in Vietnam, it would topple democracies throughout the whole of Southeast Asia, it was thought. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963, but his successor, Lyndon B. Johnson, continued the work that Kennedy had started. Johnson raised the number of South Vietnam deployments to 23,000 U.S. soldiers by the end of his first year in office. Political turbulence there and two alleged North Vietnamese attacks on U.S. naval vessels spurred Johnson to demand the passage of the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution in 1964. It granted him broad latitude in handling the struggle against communism in Southeast Asia... Just a little insight on how and why the Vietnam war started. maybe there is more to this, i don't know the full facts. I am not too convinced that the yanks and Britain go around war-mongering? That Iraq war was not instigated or started by Blair, there is more to it than that. War-mongering is what Putin is doing right now, but Nato who was formed on merely self-defence purposes 70 odd years ago are seen as war-mongers who have upset Putin, and they have never fired a bullet in anger...

Owen the French were there first. It was called French Indochina since 1887. Until Ho Chi Minh got rid of them. Like the rest of European powers that went around the world taking what ever they wanted. And the yanks have always wanted it. One senator said that Europe will be in chaos with out the Americans policing the world and that is exactly what they are doing now. Using Nato and and Russia to do there dirty work for them. And now with Finland and Sweden joining Nato .America is using Europe and Nato as there Berlin wall. Tony Blair came back from America and said he had seen the evidence that Gaddafi had weapons of mass destruction and lied to all of us. Owen The TRUMAN doctrine was the offical beginning of an aggressive peacetime intervention during which America became the worlds policeman. Friendly nations were often bought off by supporting cooperative but repressive leaders. Unfriendly ones often experienced economic sanctions and arming of there opponents. Just what is going on today with the UKRAINE. Its America fault with Russia they want world power

It was the communist threat from both sides of nam that the Americans were concerned with. I agree that the nam war was a fruitless one because no one can say who really won it and besides that, it didn't stop the to sides of nam from forming an even more powerful communist alliance. The argument now is should we have bolstered our forces and alliances even before Putin started his so-called special operations? And that answer is yes' Russia is a huge threat to world peace. If you are saying that Boris is crazy for beefing up security and alliances and he has lost the plot, what else do you suggest geezer? Labour are too far apart in policies and ideas to even bring anything to the table. Starmer does not have the charisma or the talk or nohow to talk to those big-shots abroad. America's fault with Russia? This is history repeated concerning Russia, they choked the Ukraines. In 1932 and 1933, millions of Ukrainians were killed in the Holodomor, a man-made famine engineered by the Soviet government of Joseph Stalin. This is history repeating itself through Putin. You say Blair came back from America and deliberately lied? Blair was nieve and blindsided by a bluff and we all agree that Bush wasn't very bright anyway. Capitalism isn't perfect by a long way but it is the best we got Saddam Hussein was also a big fan of Stalin and that says a lot without going into the gory details about the persecutions of the tribes and peoples he favoured and didn't like. If we the West should have stood aside and looked, it would have made no difference. Globally, people will always run away from tyrants and cruel leaders interference or not. There was always something brewing around Putin for years and you can see that through the Salisbury poisoning, Putin poisoning and locking up and killing political rivals etc. Geezer' you almost sound like we should apologise to Putin who is no more than a thug who worked his way up to power?

The worst one is CUBA since 1959. But then they use CUBA to hold prisoners with out charge all this time since the towers. So if people wanted to get them out they would to go to CUBA to get them instead of America Please dont for get the yanks have never been bombed. they use other countries for that just like now. And when YOU were bombed, thousands of Americans answered the call and risked their lives long before the their country entered the war, let alone the many thousands after. I hear our transfer of joao Palhuna is delayed over agents fee. The agents business is a complete Wild West and the sooner the fifa and uefa do something about it, the less I will think they have something to hide. They can fix the problem in 5mins by defining some commissioning modelling on elite players. You hear agents getting more money than the club. You hear players cannot join a club because the agents prefer another club. Why not have a capped model depending on your age, club level and transfer fee. They need to make the transfer business simpler - maybe the American draft system isn’t too bad.

Greedy overpaid agents are a blight on the modern game, but if we get this transfer over the line it say's a lot for the reputation of Marco Silva. Apparently, the Wolves manager who is also Portuguese was a solid favourite to sign this rated defensive midfielder...

JohnC. Why have agents at all. Never used to years ago before business and money took over. The manager ran the football side of things, buying of players, contracts, wages. Footballers represented themselves. Agents have come in, and who are they anyway, just people the feather their own nest, one of Tony Blair's sons is a football agent, says it all.

It's not about greed, it's about doing the best you can for your business, you and your family. Clubs have agents too and if the club's agents are stupid enough to agree a deal with a player's agent that is beyond tenable for both parties than more fool the club to be honest!!

We are a privileged part of the elite 20 prem teams in the top league of the world today some would say. If we make it easy on ourselves, we might as well take 6 from 20 which is 14, and we can say that we Fulham will need to get 38-40 points from the remaining 13 teams from the elite. The 6 i have categorized i'm calling the super-elite and they come in this order' Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Man utd, and Arsenal. We have the honour and privilege to have the first sat kickoff sat 6 Aug against a Liverpool team the bookies will see as an away win for Liverpool. Interestingly, the very first kick-off is Friday 5th and Palace v Arsenal. Bookies will say, 3 points away win Arsenal if the script goes to plan. This first game is a one to keep an eye on and it can show us how much improvement there is to come from a Patrick Viera and his Palace team. This could be a banana skin of a game for Arteta and he will not want to lose this one. This is a new golden era for young managers in the prem and the competition for points will be amazing. Just think about it, we have our own 'Marco Silva, Viera, Arteta, Parker, Bruno Lage Wolves, Thomas Frank, Potter, Rodgers, and the list goes on. We Fulham are here now and we might as well enjoy it, but points will have to come from somewhere. Any Fulham fan who thinks that points are in the bag against teams such as Forest are delusional. Cooper is canny and he will prepare a Forest team that won't go down without a fight, we must also come prepared. The foreign route for recruitment is our chosen path and hopefully, we chose wisely. My number one target would be a defensive midfielder and i got excited about Joao Palhinha, who could be anything? Have we got him and can he adapt to the prem? Apparently, Wolves are also interested and it is a case of which Portuguese manager he wants to sign for. Thank goodness that we only need to take points from 13 of the 20, so going into that Liverpool game, i would say, 'no pressure then!!!

Do you write a blog as that is what you contributions appear like. Manchester United and Arsenal do not have the buying power they had when the two of them fought out the league title. Players wages now excessive and all the clubs have essential support staff in huge numbers. Man C seem to have owners who have found, so far, ways around the FIFA financial rules and spend what they want without limit. In my view it is only them and Liverpool are nearly unbeatable. All the rest with the right tactics and motivation we can beat, we should do better than survive.

TTIN' i say whoopee if we can take as many points from the likes of Arsenal in these lean times, but even you must admit that they were a force at one time. I still consider them top 6 because they always beat us and it is only rookie Arteta holding them or growing with them. Arguably, if they had gone for Ancelloti who went to Everton at the time, they might have fared better? In any case you have to have a top 6 and i think that my assessments wouldn't be too far apart from the so-called experts. Some would drop man utd and Arsenal out of the 6 but who do we put in place? Our record is good recently against Liverpool thanks to Parker and maybe we can add to that. for starters?

I’m really not sure Pope, Henderson would ever have joined us no matter what was on offer. They have better options. If rumours ( that’s all we have to go on) are true I think we’ve been pretty active in pursuit of a new, much needed goalkeeper. I’m sure the manager appreciates the need at least as much as we do. The only time Fulham have realised how important a keeper is when we acquired Edwin Van De Sar for the first four years of our long return to the PL. A top keeper stabilises the whole defence and probably save more goals than your striker scores. I have always believed the keeper is the most important player in the team. Trouble is most of the Fulham do not agree and get second or third best or worse.

Liverpool are a greedy club and always over value players on their way out. They, one the other hand expect and pay way under for players they buy in, but hey that's business. Shame not to sign Neco but can't blame Fulham if they don't pay out 20 million for him.

Maybe we can find a way of stopping doing business with Liverpool. They're fleecing us left, right and centre, in effect they've managed to swap Elliott and Carvalho for Harry Wilson. Maybe our fabulous academy is a waste as it seems to be costing us in the long run.

I am heartedly fed up with Liverpool at the way they keeping taking our players off of us, for bargain prices, like Harvey Elliot, Fabio recently, then in the past with Ray Houghton, and I hope that I am right, Richard Money, and there are probably more, yet even if we wanted Neco Williams, and I'm not sure that we really do, they pile on the asking for cash. They are, as already been mentioned, a really greedy nasty club.

Think some Fulham supporters are pointing the blame in the wrong direction. The Fulham board set the prices for players, not Liverpool. The Fulham board decide who stays and who goes, with some input from the manager. If Liverpool and any club undervalue or overvalue a player, the Fulham board can say on your bike and set the fee as they see fit.

M.kent posted at 7.53 PM. I do like red, and could get quite confusing you posting using my name, and Paddy O Doors will think here he goes again. Just making the point, football is big business and money has taken over so it is up to the clubs and people that run the clubs to make sure of sound financial dealings. So if Liverpool offers less than a player is worth, the club should and could turn them down. And if Liverpool ask more than a player is worth, simply don't buy that player. If all clubs did that some financial sanity may return.

If a player young or old wants to leave ffc nothing the board can do to stop them if he’s a younger one his agent will tell him he will get 5 times more somewhere else and as he’s got nothing to keep him at club he’d be a fool to refuse no loyalty in football any more

In my opinion the most important piece of poaching by Liverpool from us was when they took Roy Hodgson at a time when he was doing so well for us. Unfortunately it is not just Liverpool who practice the business of luring players away from other clubs. Man U and City have both been guilty with the help of greedy agents of taking young stars away from us. Something has to be done to prevent poaching of players from other clubs. Quite how I do not know! Maybe we could start by giving our youngsters an earlier opportunity to be promoted to the senior squad or at least to offer them more attractive contracts. We should certainly be making more effort to keep our academy stars. An example is Sonny Hilton. Having recently been given awards for his efforts in the last season he has now been packed off to Carlisle on loan!!

I'm sure Fulham has mugged clubs too. It's the nature of the business. However, there is a way to do things and a way to behave. Liverpool have no class, their porcelain toothed manager moaning about other teams tactics, inviting ticketless fans to travel to Paris despite knowing the fans history and their inability to follow rules and behave themselves with any decorum. I would make it a rule never to sell them a player again.

We are rumoured to be signing Andreas Pereria from Manchester United, but please excuse my ignorance, who is he, as personally I have never heard of him. Has he ever played for Man United's first team, and surely if he was of any consequence, and considering what a mess United are in player wise, surely they wouldn't be selling him to us. A 6ft bustling bear of a striker who racks up 20 goals for FC Berlin back in the top tier of the Bundesliga which is maybe a Micky-mouse league by our standards? Taiwo has been here before with Liverpool who must have seen something in him, but it didn't work out for one reason or another. Steve Cooper did not hesitate in signing Taiwo and breaking the Forest record for signings. Would we, could we, and should we have taken a look at this guy? It is only natural to have a peek over the fence just to see how our play-off promotion candidates are doing i think? I am excited and nervous at the same time for our latest stint back in the prem and i hope we stay awhile this time. Can Mitrovic go get more goals with better assists this time around? I put my trust in Silva who swears by Muniz being a talent for the future. Wouldn't life be a blast if Muniz can take off into orbit back in the prem? This is why i am so nervous and apprehensive, i so do not want us to fail again. A plan 'B' for a 3rd striker is a good plan in my opinion, and that will go a long way into easing nerves and stress. Apparently we do our deals last minute and i sincerely hope we get it right on the button concerning strikers, defenders and whoever. The odds of winning the UK Lotto jackpot are 1 in 45,057,474. I am fairly confident that we can defy those odds and come up trumps with Mitrovic, Muniz, and that 3rd striker. That would be like getting 3 numbers up on the lottery. How hard is that?

Will be interesting to see how the newly promoted teams to the Premiership fair. Will they lose their way and go straight back down. A season of just fighting for survival and maybe just stay up, not much else. Settle for mid place and happy with that. Get near to the top and establish themselves as proper contenders for honours and being with the top clubs. Like the song goes, there are more questions than answers. Wish them well, especially Fulham.
Replies
Most of the Premier sides have strengthened their squad so feel that survival will be a tough ask, but if we can manage it there is no reason why we cant go on to be a decent Premier club !

We will strengthen our squad by the time the season start. Show patience, people moan when we rush to buy unsuitable people and moan when we are taking time to get the right people. Buying a new team does not work, three or four really good players could make a big difference. Getting them quickly to satisfy impatience supporters is not the way to go.

Well it looks like Notts Forest are going to steal Neco Williams away from us, so it's a no, no, with regards to us signing him now, and is that all bad, as I remember when we were celebrating our promotion, all of our players joined in the fun, but Neco didn't seem to want to be involved, in which case I don't think that he was even contemplating rejoining us this season. He did a very good job for us in the Championship, but will he really be able to step up to the Premier League.
Replies
Never felt Neco had any affection for Fulham. I know at professional level, you don’t need love to do well but for a club like Fulham, we need more than that. We need the likes of Mitro, Cairney, kebano, etc who genuinely want to play for the club. So a bit disappointing if Nottingham first gets him, we Have Tete.
posted by JohnC (Guest) - Sunday 26th June 2022, 12:55 PM

Personally I like Tete a lot, and if Neco decides his career will be better at Forest, then good luck to him, but he won't be missed here. He played his part last season, no doubt, and we are grateful for that, but I never felt that he was ever really happy with us. His best game for Wales was on the left had side, and we have enough cover there anyway. So goodbye Neco and good luck, but fortunately not with us.

Djibril Sidibé??? I wrote in a previous post about this guy in place for Neco Williams. If Silva is thinking along these lines, i would say that Sidibe would be or can be a tactical alternative right-back he can use along with Tete. Neco is a good decent player but his positioning or maybe i should say out of position would be problematic if that makes sense? How many times have we seen the adventurous Williams cover many areas than a Friesian Cow?

Some of the girls are very skillful players. My problem with womens' football however is that they appear to be using the same coaching manuels as the men. Hence football with the usual backwards and sideways dull as ditch water style which is currently being served up by the England mens' team. Why is holding the ball, dribbling and passing the ball in the direction of the goal in which you are supposed to be putting it so frowned upon?

Ancient Chris. Well said. Game has got so boring. You see coaches fill the heads of players with diagrams that go everywhere but the goal. Time and again a quick pass to another player as soon as they get the ball, like they are scared to use it. Half way up the pitch and back it goes all the way to the goalkeeper. The only dribbling they do is what dribbles out of their mouths, like, lets take the knee lads and where is my pride armband.
