I once got talking to Jokanovic whilst we were both waiting for people to turn up at a restaurant in Wimbledon. He said that what the Khan’s and in particular Shadid neded to make their mind up about was whether they wanted a football club or a hobby. In reality what we now have with the new stand and its offerings away from the nuisance of match days, is a property company with a football club attached, nothing more, and nothing less.

I say bring Slav back. He knows how to get the best from Mitro, TC, etc. It will be a breath of fresh air, the players will feel unshackled, and we all will enjoy the style again. A player like Carvahlo will be like Sess 2.0 - shining in Slav’s attacking system. Let’s face it, we had nowhere near as much talent two seasons ago at the back as Scottie had this year. Now, with Robinson, Tete, Tosin, Rodak … Slav will be better equipped to succeed. We lost Targett and Fredricks that year after Promotion - a huge factor in relegation. I’d much rather have Slav than Cooper, Big Sam, or anyone else. Roy would be a perfect balancing force as a consultant.

MT I think I probably disagree with you. Not sure what the problem is. Of cos there always going to be a few idiots coming on board here who have no interest in Fulham. I can actually name a few Brentford fans who come on here whenever they win! But on the whole, I think 90% of the people have an interest in Fulham. The difference maybe the sort of fans you want to see. The reality is with social media (which by the way I dislike and don’t use) has not helped as it has given people a platform to say what they like and not like. This site is no difference. Many more fans are much more critical of the club and some dislike the owners so much they threatened to give up their season tickets. Some ready to shoot the manager as soon as he makes a mistake. We even had someone criticising cavalho missing a half chance against Man U in his first full game. I respect their decisions or opinions about the club so long is not motivated by racism or any form of discrimination. Otherwise I don’t read them if don’t like to. Or I argue if I disagree. . So I am not sure what is the problem? Maybe you’d prefer an exclusive little club with just your old mates. Sadly, this is a forum open to all Fulham fans.. at least that’s what I thought! posted by John (Guest) - Wednesday 16th June 2021, 9:42 PM

MT. Well, they are certainly intended to wind us up and may well be from only one or two people. Couldn't say about the seasoned FFC fan bit. Generally, I would say I agree with you on this matter. However, although registration would get rid of the stupid multiple names, it would not solve the problem totally as you still have the issue of online anonymity making people say things they wouldn't face to face. You and I have disagreed on many things and agreed on others. I even managed to find common ground with Ted recently on the issue of horse racing but generally my opinion of him, and I image his of me, is not publishable. I think you just have to accept that the only thing we all have in common is Fulham and there will always be some nasty disagreements.

I am slightly lost here. Somehow it seems my response have tickled a few hair. Is there an insinuation that I am a ‘Woke’? Read my post please. I am completely the opposite in arguing people can express their opinions as much as they want as long it is not illegal or offensive. I am not sure is there an insinuation I am not a Fulham fc Fan? I watched 95% of all home games in the last 15 seasons or so and went to many, and watched every one (as boring and frustrating as some games got) on TV last season. I can probably name every player played more than 2 or 3 games in this period. I am not a fan? Lastly, apologise if my reference or old mates upset someone, honestly apart from disagreeing with a post and an opinion, what I have said that is so rude and deserved to have the post deleted. Am I really the woke! I too think it is time give up on this forum!

Congratulations to the new guy 'Robert Page' for his patience and for not messing around with subs too quickly in a high-level important game such as this. It could have gone so wrong for the rookie manager but he kept his nerves and it played out nicely for him and Wales. If Wales only get so far in the competition, it still is a great achievement considering the depth of their squad. It will enhance Robert Pages cv in management too. Funny how things work out with the suspension of Ryan Giggs. Sometimes all it takes to carry a team is 2 world-class players, and i think Bale and Ramsey are world-class. Bale was not at his very best and we could see that, and his penalty was awful, but he is still one of the most astute passers of a football there ever is. If Ramsey was more alert and accurate, it could have been 3 or 4 goals more. I always say, 'leave your star players on, even if they are having a quiet game or missfire a few shots etc. Can you imagine if it was a Spurs game and Jose Mourinho was still in charge? Bale would be subbed off because he cannot play 90 minutes, or we listen to some different sycho-babble on how he needs to change the game etc. It is not just Jose Mourinho, and i think Scott Parker is guilty of pushing the wrong buttons on substitutions throughout last term. Football is a funny old game and one game can make or break you. If Wales only get as far as whatever in this euro's, it won't do Robert Page's reputation any harm by a long chalk.

Please please let Parker go to Bournemouth it will be the best solution ever. Everyone knows he is out of his depth failed miserably at Premier level and has made major mistakes in getting our club relegated. Mitro compared to the rest is a much better player and Parker’s rift was unforgivable. We need new blood Tiny Khan included but that won’t happen.

There is something missing from all the Fulham managers that I have known... Something missing for more than 50 years. Many boards will talk about having one. Our failure in this department probably helps to explain why so many recent transfers have looked desperate and why so few youngsters seem to flourish in the Fulham first team. In this regard, the right manager is critical. With such a successful youth team, now is the time to get the appointment right. Indeed, Scott Parker might be the right man. I'm talking about a five-year plan and the fact that we have not held on to a manager for 5 years since 1964. Since Al-Fayed took over, the only manager I was sorry to see sacked was Joka and, of those who left voluntarily, Roy Hodgson and Mark Highest seemed most capable of taking Fulham forward. I believe that Parker has now been with us long enough to start taking us forward, despite his shortcomings. If he really is thinking about leaving us for another Championship club, seemingly with less potential, one has to question why. If we need a new manager, is it not about time we went with someone who will be able to execute a five-year plan which involves re-establishing Fulham as a Premier League club and ensuring that the class of '21 is the backbone of the first team in 2026?
Replies
I personally was sorry to see Jean Tigana leave. The team that was promoted to the Premiership under him played the best football I have ever seen a Fulham team play.I remember one game being reported on the radio where the commentator told listeners they really should get down to the Cottage to see the wonderful football being played. I think it was Sean Davis that said they would come off the pitch and think did we really play that well. Should he have been sacked? It looked like relegation and Al Fayed acted quickly. Too quickly? We will never know

Jean Tigana was one of the first managers to introduce the passing football style that nearly everybody uses now. At the time it was new and fresh and exciting but it has now become tiresome and dull. Man C use fluid positioning type of system rather the Dutch did in the !970s and Brazil have always used. We could all try to adapt that sort of play but it would take a while for the players to understand it and we would need a manager who who understood it wanted to operate it.

Even if they are 90 percent effective that’ll still leave 10 percent of vaccinated people vulnerable. Most of those have other pre existing conditions, so a lot of those are in care of one form or another, hence carers need to be vaccinated to offer the best protection possible to the most vulnerable vaccinated people. Though you are correct the most vulnerable to covid are the unvaccinated which is why at the moment there is such a larger than normal proportion of hospitalised people are under 50, since they haven’t had a chance to get both jabs yet.

I couldn't agree more with with the comments about the FFC post board. Most social media sites encourage keyboard warriors who would never say the same things to peoples faces. I feel sorry if this is the way people get their kicks. I'm sure they have no intention of being part of the FFC group. I don't know how FFC or any other site can stop this, but closing our site is just what their long term game is to accomplish. Difficult as it is the best action is to ignore them. Please don't let these cowardly excuses for fans / humans too win.

I have contributed to this board since it's conception many years ago (as have many others still posting) and in the main it has been good clean fun. I enjoy reading posts and comments about Fulham, Brexit, Covid, Politics, Friday Jokes, etc. made by genuine fans of Fulham but I/you can't help but notice that this board is in terminal decline.

In recent times however, it feels as though real Fulham fans are in the minority of posters compared to those that come on here to get a reaction using multiple monikers, people that have learned new words and use them in every post like "woke" and "workerati", people who think it's funny to mock other's religious beliefs or upbringing, those who think they make the rules and should therefore police what they personally see as unacceptable comments regarding race, creed or sexual choice (YES choice!), those who make comments deliberately aimed at the above to goad them, supporters of other clubs, etc., etc., etc.

We have lost so many interesting posters over the years like Arizonan, Californian, Moreline, the REAL Archbishop, the ORIGINAL Geezer, Ostrich Watch, Hints, Gazza, Gezza, Devon Bob etc. and that can't be right, can it?

I remember the days when we used to have a forum on the official website that went the same way as this one and was eventually closed down so maybe it is time to make it mandatory to register with a bona fide name, address, telephone number and e-mail address to deter people who clearly have no interest in Fulham Football Club and come on this site just for their own crass amusement?

Maybe I'm just getting old and becoming less tolerant of idiots but I'd truly like to see this site for genuine Fulham fans only!

I actually agree with you for once, on The whole. Over the last few weeks it would seem that there is a new poster who will Post something provocative, if not discriminatory, and then pepper their own posts with replies from different monikers. The sole reason they are posting is to cause arguments. I would suggest you try and live by your own rules and try not to to deliberately aim comments like ‘YES choice’ if you would like to Prevent the decline and prevent goading. Also when you were moderator you went on many foul mouthed rants when I requested we discuss football Only on this board - to Prevent arguements and make sure EVERY Fulham fan feels welcome. Which will be the only way to prevent this decline. The owners of the site recently said this is a board for Fulham related topics so the addition of Brexit, covid and politics might be responsible for the constant arguing. The club actually told me that the forum was closed due to the constant moderation required to Prevent it turning into a board like this.

MT, I completely agree with your post, yes I used to enjoy people’s opinions about non Fulham/football matters but it has gone over the top and has in some cases become toxic. As football fans a bit of banter is expected but abuse is not exceptable. It seems that this site has many anonymous wind up merchants waiting for someone to post about a subject that is near theknuckle or a subject they may not agree with and then the thread becomes open season for the multi named idiots. Everyone has an opinion, which is how it should be, sadly some posters can’t except this. I often wonder if some of these posters are Fulham or even football fans, I hope this board gets through this and if so the many leavers will return. If members had to sign up (email address etc) and were unable to hide behind a false handle this surely would help.

Just a piece of news to brighten up the day, seems that steve cooper of swansea and the guy from barnsley are being touted for parkers job, both seem to have what we need knowledge of championship and an advance thinking brain. we do need some one who is familiar with ups and downs of market, may be we have two people who fit the job.

Mr Khan is apparently putting his foot down, and will not allow Scott Parker to take over as Bournemouth's manager, without a sizeable compensation package, as he is under a 3 year contract. If it has come to this, it is now more than certain that Scott will not be with us for much longer, and that we will have a new coach when the season starts. For goodness sake let's get on with it then, as we don't want any last minute appointments which will leave us miles behind in the transfer market, and no chance of a reasonably good season.

Khan is absolutely right to put his foot down. I’ve said before I’d be shocked if he canned SP and had to waste paying compensation on top of the previous wasted spending. Any compensation to SP gets applied to FFP and would not be prudent. Either he quits, or another club pays us. Only ways I see this going.

Covid vaccinations are apparently going to be made compulsory for Care Home workers and possibly extended to the NHS.

Excellent idea in my opinion as people who care for the vulnerable should not be allowed to put the lives of others at risk.

Medical staff take the Hippocratic oath which, dictates "Practice two things in your dealings with disease: either help or do not harm the patient". Making a conscious decision NOT to be vaccinated knowing the facts regarding the protection it gives, goes against all the NHS stands for in my opinion.

Obviously Care staff do not take the oath but they are in the same position in terms of ensuring they do not harm the people for whom they care.

If you don't like it, choose another career!

Well, unless you have a friend or family member that died OF Covid brought into a care home by a member of staff then you won't know how it feels or will necessarily agree I guess. No issue but my opinion still stands very strongly. By the way and for those that don't know, my wife is an NHS nurse working in reablement and palliative care in people's homes so I hear the stories first hand and it is mandatory for them to have the hepatitis vaccine so why not coronavirus?

MT, I totally agree with you, and any care home worker most definitely should have the vaccine, and if they don't toe the line, they should have to forfeit their jobs. It is not as if this new ruling will come in next week, they will have virtually four months. We must not drop our guards in care homes anymore.

I’d go for Benitez! Probably impossible but someone like Benitez should be the calibre of mangers the Khan should go for. A bit like going for Keegan - it sets the tone for the club and that is what we need. A big but credible manager. Benitez may never want to come to Fulham but if he did and with his championship experience, we can do a Newcastle in the next few years. You never know. Benitez likes a challenge. Given him a proper project and transfer budget, he could come.

John' the Khans wouldn't want Benitez because Benitez would want a bigger budget than the Khans could afford or would want to give. Remember the sly comments they made about the 100 million we spent first time around? This is why we were restricted and shied off taking Toney from Brentford and a few others. It makes you wonder if the Khans would have stumped up the fees for Andersen, Lookman etc if we were still in the prem? Benitez likes a challenge but he also likes money first just like Mourinho. These type of managers cannot afford time or reputation in getting a team up from scratch with limited resources. Time is now forgot to add Big Sam onto the list of out of work managers. He is another one who could not hack it and he basically talked himself out of a job. West Brom wanted him to stay but his pride wouldn't take it. Talking about pride in a man' i am surprised that Big Sam didn't sue you for leaving him off the list, lol.....

Add Luis Castro to that list. Three years ago, he managed to do an amazing job with Vitoria Sport Clube (a low mid table club) here in Portugal (finished 5th, taking them to Euro League) and was snapped up by Shaktar. First year there, he won the Ukrainian League with and reached the Euro League semi-finals. He finished this year 2nd in the league, with Kiev dominating the league. He didn't do amazingly well in the european stage, though he did manage to bag 2 wins against R. Madrid in the Champions League. With his contract finishing in the summer, he decided he wanted to try different stages and left. I personally like him and would say he's an interesting choice. Humble guy, very straight forward on his interviews and enjoys attacking football.

Javier, was with our club working with Jokanovic, and then left around the time that Joka did. He then returned to Fulham, and if my memory serves me right, he then came back as assistant director, and then left again to take up a post in China. It is a complete mystery to me that he is being talked about as our coach, and in my opinion it would be a disaster if it ever happened.

Javier Pereira is Spanish, and his name pretty much says that. He has a wide knowledge of football, since he has worked in several different countries (and continents). He's mostly known for being a man behind the scenes, working most of his career as an assistant manager. in English Football he's mostly known for his partnership with Jokanovic, where he was his assistant during Joka's tenure at Watford and Fulham. He also briefly had the Assistant Director of Football role (didn't even known that was a thing) at FFC from Jan 2020 to Sep of the same year, which had... 0 impact to be honest, since we still ended up recruiting players at last minute. He left Fulham for a Management position at the Chinese Super League relegation candidates Henan Songshan Longmen. Since taking over that club, he has saved them from relegation (he took over at the start of the relegation playoffs, winning 4 and drawing 2). This year's Chinese Super League he has managed 2 points in 4 games (4 Goals scored vs 5 Goals suffered). The board might favor him since he's gaining first team manager experience for a while, he knows the club and seems to get along well with the board. Is he a good solution? In my opinion, not really. Show's the boards lack of ambition. Thnks Transfrmarkt, Wikipedia, and some general knowledge (& memory) for the sources

It is well documented that Carlos Carvalhal is looking for a way back into English football. Carvalhal' had a good stint at Sheff Wed and only lost out in the play-offs to Huddersfield. He had a short spell with Swansea before departing these shores. Carvalhal has some international experience from a stint in Turkey which is useful, and also add to his list, Portugues clubs such as Rio Ave and i think his current team is SC Braga in Portugal. His time and experience back in the Championship with Sheff Wed is the bread and butter. The shorter spell for Swansea after the paul Clemmant sacking is interesting and maybe predictable as in, he was sacked after Swansea relegation. Carvalhal also won a manager of the month with the Swans and picked up home victories against Liverpool and Arsenal. Maybe we can compare with Parker, and Parker won a promotion which looks like he has the edge over Caravhal? I would argue that Carvalhal's type of football had more cutting edge with Swansea in the prem. As for relegation, we all know the difficulties and yo-yo situations for clubs like Swansea Fulham etc. Caravhal was a centre back in his footballing career, and think he would go about the job brilliantly if he can get a modest budget from the Khans. He also will bring more of a cutting edge to our Fulham attack more so than Scott Parker. Parker somehow never quite worked out a way on goal and that is why we struggled and knew our fate long before season ended. Experience comes with job cv , and Caravhal has the cv to prove and show it.

Sorry Owen, but not going to happen. Simply put, he joined Braga last year and managed 4th place in the league and is going to the Euro League with them. Not only that but Braga is a portuguese team that has been developing nicely over the years. Can't see him trading that for the uncertainty here. I do like him though. Very Portuguese on his press conferences, and a humble chap.

Good luck to him in the future but Mr Khan needs to get the right man and not a make doo on the cheap. Good players are attracted to good managers and we need someone to get us out of the Championship and get us back into the Premiership. No club has the right to be there, but we need real talent and quality that not only gets us back, but we stay there. Onwards and upwards....we are a unique club but we can do so much better.

obacco kills more than 8 million people each year. More than 7 million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while around 1.2 million are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. Over 80% of the world's 1.3 billion tobacco users live in low- and middle-income countries.

3,839,875 people have died so far from the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak as of June 16, 2021, 10:44 GMT.

My point was made regarding the UK not worldwide but by the same token, it is unlikely that figures from third world countries for Covid or smoking are anywhere near accurate nor sizeable enough.

...and I should add to that, that smoking has been around for centuries and Covid not even two years. Also dying from smoking is relatively long term and mostly self inflicted whereby death by Covid by comparison is short and inflicted by others. Comparing smoking with Covid is pretty ridiculous in any case so not sure why I even got into this debate lol....

While I understand the angst against Tony, he seems to slowly start acknowledging the fact he can't be present in 2 continents at the same time. His twitter posts are mostly about his Wrestling company and I believe that's why he hired Javier Pereira to help him. Unfortunately Pereira left as soon as he got a management job offer and since then no one has filled that position. I would say that getting a new Assistant Director of Football should be the board's highest priority to plan for the long run. Ralf Rangnick would be an amazing bet (even though too difficult to reach imo). He did an outstanding job with Leipzig. I've read that the role is vacant because of how demanding the job offer is, but let's be honest... Liverpool's DoF didn't have much international experience and is doing a fine job. the Board just needs to get someone with a football heart who loves numbers as much as they do.

even if you weren't in love with the football parker had us playing, i still think he was working very well with the players he had. We clearly needed a striker like Ivan Tony. Everyone knows that! Losing Parker in my opinion is Fulhams lowest point under the Khans. Fulham is a much bigger and attractive prospect to any manager than Bournemouth. How are we in a position where top young english managers would rather be a Bournemouth than Fulham. This is a disaster!!! no wonder Shahid khans message the other day was as lacklustre as it comes.
Replies
If Fulham really wanted Parker, do you think they would let him go to Bournemouth?? Do not forget, Bournemouth had been in the premier league for about 5-6 years, they are probably financially with a bigger P&L than Fulham. The issue we all know is in Tony Khan. He's approaching his role like a General Manager (in America Sports) and that doesn't work in English football because to the fans the manager has to accept all responsibility! I just hope he or he's Dad see that now and change the structure before the next manager. Otherwise, will be dejavu again!

Fulham haven't let him go to Bournemouth. They've let him go. Probably because he doesn't want to be there and that any owner would know that keeping a manager that doesn't want to be there is a bad idea. He is then free to join Bournemouth. whats does a bigger Profit and Loss mean?

If Parker to Bournemouth falls through, is there still a way back for Parker to stay at Fulham? Given his dwindling popularity, he’s position as a coach at Fulham in my view is no longer tenable. I assume he didn’t ask for the move but I guess he could have come out to say he is committed to Fulham.

If I'm really honest, the extension does not affect me personally one iota. I very rarely have six people in my home from different households, I can still go for a pint and/or a meal, I'm happy holidaying in the UK for a couple of years and I can perform my work related duties reasonably adequately from my home office so if it helps save a few more lives then I am all for it.

Some of the rules though, I find a little perplexing. Weddings can now go ahead provided that social distancing and mask wearing is maintained is an odd one.

In order for social distancing to be observed, it would mean that venues would only be able to cater for, I don't know, around 25% of their capacity? Imagine that; dancing around handbags with a two metre distance between people. All the wedding album photos with people wearing masks lol. It'll be like a who's who.

Also if it is ok for wedding venues to cater for weddings then why not birthday parties, funerals, engagement parties, etc. and why not nightclubs of a certain size and capacity?

There will be a full capacity at centre court for the two singles finals so why not doubles and why not Wembley for the Euro final?

Lots of conflict to my tiny mind so no wonder confusion reigns for some and that rules will no doubt be broken as they always have been.

I just hope that we will be allowed a full capacity at Craven Cottage in August because this ballot nonsense will kill the anticipation and excitement of being back and people that pay for their season tickets by instalments will have their ticket price refunded for games they miss but unlikely the interest or credit charges so not very fair methinks.

Sigh.... it was it is though so let's grit our teeth and get on with it ;0))

The group that socialize most in large groups are the young people who have not had the vaccine. The Government are going to do everything to get the 18-22 group done as quickly as possible. The other main factors is schools break up, stopping another super spreader. Before the tournament started I thought England had a good chance, but i am beginning to change my mind. There are actually some very strong teams in the Euro. Portugal - full of solid players plus Ronaldo. France - maybe aging a bit but they won the world cup. Belgium - awesome! Germany - can never rule them out as they get better by the game. Italy - surprisingly good! Netherland and Spain - can never rule them out. So England probably have to beat 2 or 3 of the above teams. I am not so sure!

Absolutely Len, however there are those that can manage all formats playing according to the circumstances. In particular: Root, Bairstow, Butler, Stokes and quite a few of the bowlers. I have to admit there’s a hugh difference between 50 overs and 20 and in truth there aren’t that many but Roy, Hales and a few others are close, think it takes time to mature into a test player, particularly if you get stuck playing the “ playground “ stuff for too long. I have no objection to female football commentators (unless the voice is a continuous shrill, applies to males as well), no objections to females presenting football shows; but I find it ridiculous when female professional footballers sit alongside commentators giving their expert analysis. I expect the experts to have actually played professional football or at least managed at that level. In all due respect I don’t think there is one female professional footballer who would get into a National League side, never mind a Premiership club. The other evening there was a female professional footballer debating the match with Roy Keane. Absolutely ridiculous!

O’David, typical Woke answer. I put forward a valid point. Would be helpful to respond by answering it. The only response to these issues are; your either sexist or racist. If a female either played or managed a Premiership team I would have no objection to them giving expert analysis from their experience and player’s perspective
posted by Jegs (Guest) - Monday 14th June 2021, 4:15 PM

The problem with your analysis is that it will never allow a pathway to female punditry. Unless the womens game is elevated in popularity, which is exactly what we are seeing now. You would probably be throwing your toys out of the pram if a woman managed fulham, as you suggest, or if our new multi-million pound signing came from Arsenal women. You van barely handle them discussing the mens game, let alone be9ing onvolved with it! So how do you propose they break into punditry then? Additionally, i simply dont agree. I think because of the pressure the female pundits face, they actually come a lot more prepared than a lot of the male pundits - they have to be or they prove you and others right. How many times did we hear how good of a player RLC was from commenatators and pundits like Dion Dublin who had clearly not taken the time to look at his form this season but were there simply because of their football experience. I was also very impressed with Alex Scott for the Denmark game - who incidentally is a household name in the football world.

Most pundits felt RLC had played ok for us, though most on this site disagreed. For the record he has represented his country from U 16 through to a full England cap so the guy can obviously play, perhaps being on loan didn’t bring out the best of him though for the money he received I would expect full commitment every game.I believe Chelsea are happy to let him go it will be interesting to see how he performs for his new club !

You have pressed the red alarm button Jegs and the Wokerati are on the scene quicker than Colombo turns up to a homicide in his dirty old mac. With a pretty predictable response the old " you'd be surprised they can vote and drive cars" how original! I personally wouldn't have any problem with a woman, gay, transgender, non white or any other minority you can think of managing Fulham as long as they had a proven track record at the top level and managed us so we won matches and played attractive football and we progressed. As for your original post now we have redressed the predictable woke response, A long time ago Brian Clough gave an interview with John Motson and said people sitting in their armchairs at home watching football want to watch the game and not listen to you pundits waffling on as you carry on too much so stop it and let us watch the bloody game, not his exact words before the Wokerati waste their time looking it up so they can quote his exact words and score points, and I have to agree with him I turn the volume down most of the time while the "experts" are waffling on or pause the programme.

@JW that's my point entirely. His reputation was largely what most pundits went off. It would be easy to include a dip of form in your note preparation but that was rarely discussed. Just lazy punditry. How much are they getting paid?
posted by O David (Guest) - Monday 14th June 2021, 5:34 PM

So predictable. So boring with the same old 'wokerati' joke. How to you propose they get experience, or a 'proven track record', in the mens game if they are criticised for even discussing it? Alex Scott, what about her? 100+ caps for lionesses, spending most of your career at arguably the best ladies team in the UK? Spending the rest of her career in the best ladies league in the world in the USA? Is she qualified enough to discuss football? Not sure they come much more qualified than her...
posted by O David (Guest) - Monday 14th June 2021, 5:41 PM

O’Guest, if you look at my original posting, you will see I have no problem with women commentating, presenting,or actually managing a men’s professional team (including Fulham); my argument is that when they sit next to a commentator or on a panel as an expert they should have actually been a manager or player at the highest level. And I’m sorry if you think that playing in the WPL qualifies them as an expert in the men’s game, I would question your knowledge and appreciation of the game. At the moment every opportunity is being taken to promote the WPL, well, I think the pathetic attendances reflects the skills of the players. I wish them well
posted by Jegs (Guest) - Monday 14th June 2021, 5:55 PM

So you'd be happy to merge women into the mens league? Because, otherwise there is no way they will ever be allowed to discuss mens football by your logic. I just don't understand why the most experienced of female players aren't allowed to sit next to male pundits and discuss the game. Do you not have a panel of experts to offer different perspectives. By your logic, there is no woman anywhere who is qualified to be a football pundit because they have never played the mens game. Youd listen to them if they had, but they cant. End of argument..?
posted by O David (Guest) - Monday 14th June 2021, 6:08 PM

I'd also argue someone like Alex Scott has a much better grasp of football than you are giving her credit for. She hasn't played the mens game, fine, fair enough. But she has under taken training sessions at state of the art facilities. Been at an international tournament training camp. Captained a team. Worked with coaches (including ex pro men). Dedicated a life and a career to a professional sport. But none of that qualifies her to sit next to Roy Keane and discuss football in a studio setting as a panel of experts offering different perspectives. But Dion Dublin, who has 4 england caps, and has never been to an international tournament, knows more on the topic than she does and is therefore a better pundit.

Probably not if you apply the logic a pundit must have players int he premier league. At the end of the day, a good pundit doesn’t have to be a good footballer in the same way a good football manager doesn’t have to ah e played in the premier league (Mourinho never played proper football! Warburton of QPR didn’t know football until he got bored of the city). So am not a woke but as long as the women pundits talk sense I have no issues. ~ There is still no evidence to suggest that these people would not have developed blood clots if they had not been vaccinated

~ Less than 1,000 hospital beds are being taken up by Covid patients at the moment of which 98% have NOT been vaccinated

Just some food for thought before making sweeping conspiracy statements that could scare others into not having the jab....

I am astounded by those on this board who monitor it almost like the Gestapo during the war trawling through the posts looking for comments that they perceive to be racist, sexist, homophobic and not PC enough for their liking, and I'm talking about the most innocuous of posts, you can't criticise a person of colour without being accused of being a racist or challenge a woman without being called a misogynist the accusations come thick and fast and are relentless, they will go on and on repeating their accusations even when the original poster has denied they are a racist sexist etc etc, and guess what folks it will only get worse. I'm quite sure if they could cancel you they would without hesitation or the realisation of their hypocrisy.

Broadsword you are stating the obvious again, of course it's a message board, but in saying so are you attempting to negate my point which is that you and your like minded posters without mentioning any names see racism sexism and homophobia in the most innocuous of posts and straight away throw out the same old accusations, for example one of your like minded posters stated "it seems there are white supremacists on this site" which frankly is ridiculous. You have to come to the realisation some people don't share your opinions and probably never will do, you are entitled to yours and they are entitled to theirs, but you seem to be on some sort of crusade to sit upon your high horse pontificating your PC agenda to us like you are the self appointed thought Police which you are not and never will be.

Completely disagree actually. I thought that they played to the conditions. It was 30c on the pitch by the time the game ended and 27c at the start so, in my opinion, they played a cool waiting game, pushing the ball from side to side moving Croatia players constantly and you could see by midway through the second half that they were knackered. At that point England upped the tempo and took the chance when it came their way. Perfect tactics for a hot and humid afternoon that paid off with three points....

I am very surprised that there's been no comments about England's showing at Wembley today on this site. Maybe it's because we are not used to supporting a team that wins. Personally I wasn't over enthusiastic about our performance, but we did what we had to do, and won the game, and it was extremely hot, which our players are not used to. My big disappointment was the way Kane was never in the game, and he looked completely knackered. Maybe all this transfer nonsense is stressing him out. However, one more win for England will mean that we will qualify for the knockout rounds.

Not a bad performance, and at least we won, which is better than our disgraceful England cricket team. Mind you that's not too surprising, as we play far too many 1 day matches, and our batsmen have forgotten how to build an innings anymore. At least Sussex and Surrey are good at one day matches, so we can cheer them on.

Why all the surprise about Kane? Why should he be more knackered than any other player? His usual performance - did nothing and got subbed! That just about sums him up. And he's supposed to be captain and setting an example. Still, he used a lot of energy up, clapping himself as he walked around the pitch!!

Kane is completely overrated as an International footballer and he should never be captain of England. He is great in club football where he can score regularly against the weaker sides in the division, but when it comes to important International fixtures, penalties apart, he is just a very ordinary player.

I think it’s very easy to read, or miss read, a post and to immediately bash off a response. I think, hand on heart, we have all been guilty of that sometime. Keyboards in the solitude of your home are too immediate and there is no reflection or external control. I often find myself screaming at something or someone on the TV, something I’d be very unlikely to do to their face. My wife suggests I calm down and I normally do. If you think it, you don’t have to say it, putting stuff in writing will always be a step too far, it can be read and re-read thus compounding the insult. Suggest that before one sends a post in indignation or anger, we all get our wives to read them:) Alternately take a deep breath, read a few times and amend before pressing send. I will try to follow this sage advice, but don’t hold your breath:))

I’m sorry Broadsword, but Southgate took on the England manager’s job, so he took on the responsibility that goes with it. Would it be acceptable to express disparaging remarks about, say, Liverpool or Millwall fans? No. Then whilst I quite agree he has the right to support his players taking ‘the knee’ i don’t think he has the right to decide the reasons for people who don’t or decide the reasons while people voted to leave the EU
posted by Jegs (Guest) - Sunday 13th June 2021, 7:14 AM

Jegs. I understand where you are coming from but I feel people should comment on things connected to their lives. Like it or not taking the knee is very much part of football at this time. As to Brexit, well that affects all of us. It can't be denied that there is a racist element in football and our society in general. However, I agree that it is ridiculous to say that everyone who disagrees with taking the knee or who voted Brexit is a racist.

Broadsword, I accept he has a right to promote his players taking the knee; and I think it’s debatable whether fans should boo (although it seems acceptable to boo individuals or teams for other reasons), but I still think a lot of those who express themselves in this manner are protesting against the BLM organisation. I’m sure there are other more acceptable gestures for the players to express their sentiments against racism. With regards to Southgate I haven’t forgot the penalty miss in the 96 Euros which broke a Nation’s heart. I know that could have happened to any player; but then to go on and profit by it doing a Pizza commercial laughing at it, was unacceptable.

Now you can get nicked for putting a flag on your jam jar. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TO. Yet kids are getting killed whole sale on our streets.

As usual Geezer you misrepresent the facts. You are perfectly entitled to display a suitably sized flag on your car. However, if it comes loose and causes another vehicle to crash or injures someone then you will be prosecuted.

Where are the rest of the Wokerati on this site who champ at the bit and feel obligated to stick their unwanted oars in when there's a comment even remotely related to racism or matters they deem politically correct and then feel the need to impose their views on everyone as if it's the gospel, it's like an alarm goes off in their woke heads as soon as skin colour, the flag of St George, or taking the knee is mentioned.

Geezer. If you want to make a point about kids then fine but don't use a bare face lie to do it. Also bloodclots were in the news and they did link it to the vaccine but the numbers were no higher than normal. What evidence do you have that incidents are increasing?
posted by Broadsword (Guest) - Saturday 12th June 2021, 8:45 AM

Broadsword get your facts right. There have never been so many cases of bloodclots as now. Women are being overly effected. I know two women personally that are now on bloodthinning meds because of vaccine. I do not believe I know the only two in the Uk!!

Tony R. You know two women who are on bloodthinning meds. You don't know it is because if the vaccine. I know three people on such meds around the same time pre vaccine. The BMJ has now reported there is no evidence of a link between blood clots and the vaccine but I suppose you know better than the medical experts.

Nothing reported about it. And a lot of her friends wont have the jab because they dont want to pass it on to the kids they might have.

It possibly will upset some of you Fulham fans but reports on our supporters website states that we have already signed 2 players a Portuguese defender and a German attacker. And also states we are in advanced negotiations with Man City to take Harvey Elliott on a years loan deal, sounds solid to me.
Replies
Is that because Toney is slinging his hook and will be going to a real club with a real stadium. Any player who signs for you it will be their third choice at least after not being able to secure a contract with a real club some may come good but if they do they will be off ASAP.

Actually I think Brentford owe their promotion to Fulham. Toney was looking to go to a Premiership club when leaving Posh; and if Fulham hadn’t dithered and had taken him straight away instead of telling Posh to wait until the end of the transfer window, there must have been a good chance Fulham would have stayed up and Brentford fail to get promoted.

I’m sorry Putney Pete although my heart will always be Fulham, I first went with my Old Man to the Cottage in 1957, and went regularly until 1974 when I moved to Peterborough. But my grandson is an ardent Posh fan and I watched Toney for more than a season and he was the best striker I have ever seen since Louis Saha; I could not believe Fulham arsed around instead of taking a punt at 10 mill or less. What is that in the Premiership.

A complete rebuild is required, as I believe we shall see the departure of at least 5 of our regular squad, and that includes management, coaching & scouting staff. And lets not wait until 1 week before the season starts.

If we have a complete rebuild we are at risk, we need a core Championship team of Rodak, Tosin, Bryan, Tête, Kongolo, Robinson, Hector, Reed, D-Reed, Cavaleiro, Cairney. Then we need five additions.

We are not looking good for the coming championship season and i can see a few more jumping ship to better their prospects. Strong words from the Khans to the media need to be heard before we go into a total meltdown. By the sounds of it' Scott Parker will need to have a hands-up on who wants to play for him? It's not looking good with Mitrovic rumored to want out under Parker. Will Scott Parker lead us into the coming season? We need a press conference and some reassurance from the Khans on all what is happening...

The average PL annual salary is £3. The average Championship annual salary is half that. The parachute payments help us to maintain some PL pay players, but not many.
posted by The Time Is Now - Friday 11th June 2021, 11:59 AM

I would say the average of poor premier league players on a minimum of £3m and the average of the excellent championship players are on half that. So in theory if we can get the overpaid players off our book, we buy championship quality and we have a good manager to bring the best of them, we should be competing in the top 3. But I assume Parker wants a premier league ready squad so we don't yo-yo.
posted by John (Guest) - Friday 11th June 2021, 12:57 PM

An average is and average, Man C pay their players on average £15m so you can see the average is based on the majority of the clubs playing a lot less. We could not afford a squad of players at PL wages perhaps 3 or 4 at the most. Our PL league player we signed will have relegation clauses that reduces their wages to Championship levels so those players have any sense will have an offer price clause in the contract which gives them a let out to a PL club willing to play the price.
posted by The Time Is Now - Friday 11th June 2021, 2:05 PM

One area in which TK has learnt is that the 10m relegation clause must be activated at least 30 days prior to the championship season starting. Will hopefully help us avoid a Ryan Sess type situation again.

MT' paper talk is dangerous. Surely Tosin will be tempted by the interest from prem clubs? The footballer's agents will be all over this and it will be a natural response to want to better your career and make the most while you can. I still say that there is a danger that Tosin and Robinson could be persuaded to jump ship. If we keep them, the Khans will have done wonders...

Looks like Manchester United might sign Joachim Andersen from under Spurs noses. We could have signed him two seasons ago had any one looked at this site, as I am half Danish and knew how good he was! The Leeds fans don't fancy Harrison Reed, who is I believe essential to hold on to here if we have any chance of putting together a team that will ever be able to keep its Premiership status. No in's and more importantly NO out at the start of this transfer window. Usually its all OUT and then a mad scamper for INs just before the league season starts which give the Manager no chance to obtain any fluency. AGREE?
